The Neighborhood

The Neighborhood:
Logan Square is a beautiful neighborhood ideally situated to the north and west of downtown (15 min), with easy access to the expressway and O'Hare Blue LIne train. Our house is right off the boulevard, which is part of the 28 miles of boulevards and parks designed in 1870 to surround the city. The boulevard itself is lined with beautiful historic homes and is a great area to stroll, ride bikes, or just hang out. The neighborhood is very "hot" these days and is filled with some of Chicago's best restaurants and bars including: Longman & Eagle, Lula, Telegraph, The Whistler, and Revolution Brewery, to name a few. Also within walking distance are an organic food co-op, two movie theaters, several coffee shops, a fancy wine shop and full liquor store, a library, a flower shop, a bike shop, several nail salons and boutiques. We also have a great farmers market on Sundays that attracts a big crowd. It moves inside during the winter.

Getting around

A 5 minutes walk from our home is the Blue LIne, which runs between O'hare (20 min) and the Loop (15 min), where you can walk to the main tourist attractions such as Millenium Park, the Magnificent Mile and the Museum campus.

There are also bus lines running east allowing easy access to the Lakefront and the Red Line (for trips to Wrigley Field).

Other Things to Note

We are very family friendly (since we have a kid ourselves!), and we love hosting kids. We have some gear you can borrow while here, including a pack n' play (portable crib), a countertop high chair (sassy seat), booster car seat (sorry no baby car seat), and toys/books galore.

  • Meighan's home was clean, well located, and set-up with everything we needed.

    Great experience overall.

  • Second time staying here, and we enjoy it so much! Great location and lovely apartment. We will return.

    April 2014
  • This was our second stay at Meighan. I came with my two young daughters while we were visiting family. Obviously since this was our second visit we really enjoyed staying there the first time. This visit was just as pleasant. It was during the week so Meighan and her family were busy with work and school but Meighan still came down our first day to say hello and there were detailed instructions on how to check out.

  • When we walked in this beautiful apartment, I instantly noticed how nicely decorated it was along with how nice and clean. Meighan was such a wonderful host. So nice and helpful and very accommodating to our needs. There were many recommendations on places to go in the neighborhood. loved the neighborhood! In walking distance to many cute bars/restaurants/logan theatre/ coffee shops. Etc. I hope to be able to visit again sometime!

  • We had a great time at Meighan's place. It was a very nice home to come back to for our 5 frigid days in Chicago. Exactly as described. Warm, comfortable and clean. Would definitely do it again.

  • This is our second time here and we are coming back this weekend! My favorite place to stay in Chicago. Love the hosts, the location and love the flat. It's the perfect home away from home.

This is the first place I look to stay when I come to town. I feel lucky when it's available!

I have a small family (partner, Dave and daughter, Frances, 8) and a passion for nature and travel. I prefer a small cafe to a trendy restaurant, and like to spend my free time hiking, biking and gardening (ok, Dave and Frances garden). I spent big chunks of my '20s and '30s in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, but travel is harder these days with a school schedule so I have been exploring the States, Mexico and South America little by little.
