Right between Gramercy Park and Union Square is Irving Place, one of New York’s quietest and most historic streets. Central Village, East Village, NYU, Flatiron, and Chelsea are all a brief walk. The West Village, High Line, Times Square, the Upper East Side, Soho, the Lower East Side and Tribeca are all within 10 minutes using the confluence of buses, subways, and taxis in Union Square, just a block away. Get in and out of the city in a flash from Grand Central or Penn Stations including Train-to-the-Plane to LaGuardia, Newark and JFK airports.
Enjoy the Union Square farmer’s market, movie theaters, jazz clubs, shopping, sports bars, concert halls, hit restaurants, Little India, the NYU campus around Washington Square, the elegance of Lower Fifth and Park Avenues. All steps away.
4/5/6/N/R/Q/L are a block away in Union Square
F/D are 2 avenues away
1/2/3 are 3 avenues away
Other Things to Note
Not wheelchair accessible, sorry. And not suitable if you're seeking absolute quiet. Irving Place is residential so it's not loud like most streets or avenues in New York but the windows are thin and you're only a few feet above the sidewalk so you do hear street life and the conversations of passersby at peak times of day. Although the apartment is customized for guests my personal belongings will be packed efficiently out of site. The photos reflect actual condition and appearance when you arrive.
Smoking not allowed but beyond that enjoy the apartment like it's your own home.
Dan was a lovely host and welcomed us with a genuine smile. He had information about the local eateries, grocery stores and transport. The apartment was just as it was represented and, although well over a century old, it is in good order and everything works.
And what a position! Restaurants are as close as the opposite corner. Within a couple of blocks, you'll find ten other restaurants. Third Avenue buses are a block away. Park Avenue buses were nearly as close in the other direction. Union Square, with it's markets and colourful characters (and shopping) is a block north.
Next time I'm in New York, I hope I can stay here again.
Dan was an excellent host, and very accommodating with my arrival time. His apartment is in a great location, around the corner from Union Square. It was incredibly clean, and everything lived up to my expectations.
Our stay in Dan's appartment was wonderful. The location was absolutely perfect, you can reach every metro line within 5 minutes walk and there are so many coffee's for brunch and restaurants to chose from nearby. The bed was comfortable and if you're two people it's quite spacious for NY standards. As many have written before, it can get noisy at night/early morning, so bring earplugs and a sleeping shade, there's so much beautiful natural light coming in. Communication with Dan was very easy, he responds very quickly and has always a good tip at hand. Highly recomendable!
Dan's place was perfect for our long weekend in NY! It was a block from the subway and close to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Check-in/check-out processes were a breeze. We felt very much at home and enjoyed the Steinway. Dan was extremely personable, and we appreciated the home history he shared. He obviously takes great care of the space, and we would definitely stay here again in the future!
Dan's apartment at Union Square was simply fantastic. Perfect location, close to the subway, as well as numerous grocery stores and places to grab a bit. Centrally located it is close enough to get anywhere in just a few minutes. But it's also far enough off of the tourist traps to feel like you are actually living in New York. The place is fantastic and will gladly recommend staying there to any one. One thing to remember. You are just a few feet off of the street so light sleepers might be interested in earplugs. But other than that, perfect location for a long weekend get away. Anytime we are in New York will be more than thrilled to check with Dan and see if his place is available. Thanks for everything, couldn't have asked for anything more.
Dan made my parents feel very welcome and had such a beautiful apartment. The location was perfect and it was a great place to gather with my family while they were here. They will definitely be back.
Dan's apartment was perfect for our needs. The location can't be beat, and the apartment was clean and charming. Highly recommended for your stay in New York.
Dan was very communicative and friendly before and during the stay, making sure he knew what time we were scheduled to arrive. Nothing came up, but I have no doubt Dan would have taken care of it easily and without fuss.
