ABOUT THE LOCATION:
The apartment is in a great location, surrounded by pedestrian streets. Darlinghurst is now a sought-after suburb of Sydney, particluarly for young creatives and families, and is also popular with downsizers, offering walking distance to the city, Paddington, Surry Hills and Potts Point and great restaurants and nightlife, while being a short trip to beautiful surrounding parks and the beaches of Sydney. Womerah Avenue itself is considered one of (if not the best!) streets in Darlinghurst. Quiet and tree-lined, it is home to both a large number of young singles and couples, and a growing number of families who aren't willing to leave the convenience and spoils of the area behind for the suburbs!
We live in the area with our two and four year old children, as do a large number of other families. Womerah Ave and the Darlinghurst area has gentrified over the last 10 years, is one of the most creative and desirable areas of Sydney. The area is highly populated and, using common sense, we have never felt anything but safe in the area.
Parking on the street is time limited. Car rental locations are close by and GoGet car-share is easy and available close by. Locals walk everywhere or use the buses and trains - the location is central and this is easy. If you have a car let us know and we may be able to provide a space for you to park.
A number of "GoGet" car-share vehicles are located within a two minute walk of the apartment. Parking is free in "car-share" spaces and foreign licences are accepted. Prior to leaving home (to avoid delays in waiting for activation card to arrive in post) you can register using our address for the information pack and activation card. Search for GoGet Car Share Sydney. Look for the FAQ's.
Our apartment is up a flight of stairs, on the first floor of an old 1930's altered 1890's Victorian terrace with four apartments. The apartment is over two levels, with the main bedroom up an internal flight of stairs.
There is no bath.
Washing machines in a shared laundry accessed from the shared courtyard. There is a drying rack provided in case you want to hand wash or dry items inside.
This is a NO SMOKING BUILDING. Absolutely no smoking is allowed either inside the apartment or in the shared courtyard. This is important, and ignoring this rule will impact on your security deposit.
Unlimited ADSL2+ wireless internet
Interaction with Guests
We want you love the apartment and surrounding area as much as we do! It has everything you will need for a comfortable stay, and is professionally cleaned to a high standard between guests. We are only 5 minutes away to assist if necessary, but will leave you to enjoy your stay in privacy. We can provide flexible check in and check out times if possible, and can provide recommendations for great cafes, restaurants and bars in the area. For families with younger children we can assist with little extras like a baby bath, travel cot, cot linen and baby high-chair, just ask!

The apartment is well equipped, Jodie is very nice and friendly and our stay at her apartment was more than perfect! Only 2 minutes walk to the bus station and 15 minutes drive in the city! Thank you for everything Jodie, also for your cake that waited for us in the apartment at our arrival!
A wonderful time spent in Sydney in this lovely spacious listing! The neighborhood is quaint and a comfortable walk to Potts Point and King Cross. I enjoyed how available the hostess was, she was very thorough with the introduction to the home.
Jodie couldn't be there during our trip but still managed to be an excellent host; she emailed before and during our stay and made sure that we had local contacts in case of any problems (there were none).
The apartment itself is clean, bright and tastefully furnished with good quality fittings and comfortable sofa and seats. The picures do make it look perhaps a bit more spacious than it really is, but it was perfectly adequate for four adults. There is loads of storage in the bedrooms. The wi-fi and TV worked well. Good dishwasher, coffee machine is nice. The washing machines are outside in the back yard and shared with the other 3 apartments in the house. The rest of the building is a bit tired and could do with the same treatment as Jodie's flat.
The air-conditioning was quiet and effective even at very low settings, but only in one bedroom; the other bedroom really needs it as well in hot steamy weather like we had in January.
The situation is great for visiting Sydney. Twenty minutes brisk walk gets you to the Botanic Gardens and another 5 or 10 takes you to the centre. However the bus service from the end of the road 2 minutes away is great, Circular Quay one way and Watson's Bay the other with a frequent service. King's Cross station is only 5 minutes walk with very frequent trains to Bondi Junction and to the city and beyond the other way. There is a good city supermarket also only 5 minutes walk away. It would probably have taken us half a year to eat at every restaurant within a 10 minute walking radius.
We hired a car on one day only and we had somewhere to park it overnight, but anyone driving here needs to sort out parking in advance.
Overall we were very pleased to stay here and would happily recommend it.
The place was perfect for us - 2 couples and a baby. Jodie had everything you could need to settle a baby into the flat. The location was exactly where we wanted to be and we would stay here again no thought needed. Thanks Jodie.
We arrived in Sydney after many hours of travel and it was lovely to find Jodie's place in one of the most beautiful tree lined streets of Darlinghurst. The house has gorgeous sunlight every morning and the rooms are very very comfortable. The location is perfect, walking distance from great cafes and boutiques. We loved staying at Jodie's who is a superb host and would stay at her place again in a heart beat.
As a fellow airbnb host I'd like to comment the following:
Upside: good location, clean, well supplied including a Nespresso machine.
Downside: poorly maintained building, laundry facilities outside the apartment. Unfortunately Jodie, our host, was clearly under stress demonstrating throughout our communication a exceedingly demanding behavior, at times quite offensive. After our stay she made a very poor judgment assuming that I took away with me some towels from the apartment . She asked for a reimbursement for these items that were never taken, creating a very unpleasant situation. Of course, later on the towels were found.
Hi Themis, thanks again for choosing to stay in our apartment. I'm sorry that you feel my communication was somehow demanding. Before your arrival I explained
that I had to make an unplanned, last minute trip overseas to see a very sick family member. Rather than cancel guests' reservations and cause undue stress for their holidays, I explained that I had managed to arrange a friend to look after our guests.
All of my communication was calm, clear and polite. There was some confusion over missing towels, which both my friend and I asked for assistance in locating, in very polite and calm emails. It was only after you somewhat rudely rebuffed me that I (again, very politely) asked if you had inadvertently taken them with you, and if you had, that we could arrange a reimbursement to cover the purchase of new towels. This very calm and polite email was only sent after two enquiries did not locate the towels, which were required for this very busy time of year, when I cannot be there to replace them.
Yes, the washing machine is located in a shared laundry, outside the apartment. This is clearly noted in the listing details. The apartment is located within a large, old, converted Victorian terrace house, not a slick new apartment building. This is also noted in the listing. We love the character, and our apartment is very clean, but understand some people may not appreciate the lovely character a building hundreds of years old can offer.
Great apartment for a short stay in Sydney - really well equipped for those staying with children.
Great location, quiet street but close to lots of restaurants, clubs, parks (and Bills).
Fantastic kitchen with everything you'd need. Would definitely recommend staying here with a young family.
I am a design professional and a Sydney local, and my well traveled husband is a San Francisco native. My young family and I have lived in Darlinghurst for 7 years, love to travel and appreciate a great 'base camp' to explore from. We think our apartment on a beautifully quiet tree lined street on the boundaries of Darlinghurst and Paddington is perfectly placed to explore some of Sydney's great restaurants, cafes, markets, beaches and beyond.
We look forward to meeting you when you stay!
