The space
This is a private and separate studio (self check in/out) above the garage and adjacent to our home. The entrance (keypad with your own code provided) is through our side "mudroom" which we do not use on a regular basis so it is mostly a private entrance. The studio itself has a comfortable and fairly new queen bed, a sofa, rocking chair and kitchen table with stools. The “kitchen” listed in the “amenities” section is a kitchenette: it has a counter-top burner, mini refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee pot and water boiler, including cooking pans and utensils and all dishware. Olive oil, coffee and tea provided. There is no oven. The Smart HD TV has hundreds of channels on DirecTV and a sound bar. The TV is linked to the WIFI so that you can access online programming. The studio includes a desk for remote work. There is also an iHome clock/radio which is blue-tooth enabled (or auxiliary cord) to play your own music. Luggage racks are supplied for your convenience. Enjoy your own balcony with amazing views of Mt. Baker to the east and the Olympics to the west, witnessing both sunrises and sunsets. We live 3/4 mile from the Skagit Wildlife Area for prime birding, walking or jogging. (In the fall and winter, the refuge attracts water fowl hunters and the reports from their shot guns are audible, but not disturbing; no hunting is allowed near the studio.)Bring your kayak, canoe or SUP; the Skagit River with boat launch is 1 mile away. Bike storage available.

We follow Airbnb's 5 step cleaning and disinfecting protocol so you can rest assured we have properly and thoroughly cleaned the studio. We value your safety and our own, as this is our home.

Where you’ll be

Mount Vernon, Washington, United States

Our home is conveniently located in the scenic Skagit Valley, home of many of Western Washington's most beautiful and iconic landmarks. The property is nestled in and around classic Skagit Valley farmlands and has its own micro flower farm on it. We are just three miles off of I-5, four miles from Snow Goose Produce (where you will get the largest ice cream cones you could possibly imagine), five miles from the world-famous tulip fields, Roozengaarde Tulip Farm, and Tulip Town, and five miles south of picturesque downtown Mount Vernon. In Mount Vernon you can sample a wide range of food and drink options, including a superb Co-op, four local breweries (6 more county-wide), a Tacqueria, two Thai restaurants, and dining options at Coa (Mexican fare), The Trumpeter Alehouse, Pacionis and Il Granaio. There is also a Safeway and Haggen where you can pick up grocery essentials. In La Conner, 9 miles from the studio, you can stroll along the water front, enjoy local food at The Oyster & Thistle, Nell Thorns and visit the Museum of Northwest Art. And right in our own backyard, the Conway Tavern boasts famous burgers and karaoke, and Bertelson Winery is one exit south on I-5. If you like antiquing, Conway, Mount Vernon and La Conner have many shops. If you like to cycle, all these places are within biking distance. If you are going to take a ferry to the San Juan Islands, the studio is conveniently located between I-5 and Anacortes. The ferry terminal is less than 20 miles away, across Fir Island, Pleasant Ridge and the Skagit Flats.
Hunting: There is no hunting on our property, but the Skagit Wildlife Area (1 mile away) does allow hunting of waterfowl between September 1 and March 15, although the peak hunting time seems to be between November and January. During that time, you can hear shots in the distance from the studio, but you are certainly not at any risk on our property. We've lived here for 30 years and we still walk/run in the recreation area in the winter during hunting season, but we don't go out in the dark, early morning when there is active hunting.
We keep bees in the orchard adjacent to our home, but the 4 hives are not near guest parking or the studio entrance at all; and the bees are far too busy to bother people!
