Gumbo Limbo is a very beautiful bed and breakfast, set in the hills of Santa Teresa, only a short walk or quick car ride to the beach. We especially enjoyed staying in Villa Indio- so spacious, with own private deck overlooking the infinity pool and outdoor bathroom and shower facing the rainforest! I really loved being up the hill far from the noise of the busy road, the ocean views and sunsets were amazing! The restaurant at Gumbo Limbo is great as well- breakfast every morning consisted of a huge goblet of fresh fruit, granola and yogurt. You could order pancakes or eggs as well. We had lunch and dinner a few times while we stayed and each meal- whether it was fish tacos, fresh mahi mahi or steak sandwiches, was awesome. These boys can cook! Lastly, I can't say enough about Juan and Ale's hospitality, it's like hanging out with good friends and they make you feel at home. I would highly recommend staying here.
Awesome spot, awesome hosts, you need to stay at the Gumbo Limbo if you're in town! Just make sure you have a proper car to get there because the way up the hill is pretty steep.
We loved the location of the villa. The view and the selection of rare birds on the tree in the morning. Fantastic hospitality and felt really taken care of by Juan, Alejandro and Sarah. Our lovely Argentine hosts gave the best BBQ and as Australians we were blown away. No a/c in our villa and intermittent wifi but this was not an issue as we were on top of paradise looking over the pacific. Days were spend swimming in the divine infinity pool and relaxing in our hammock. We even had a surprise visit from a troop of "white face" monkeys and hummingbirds which made our stay unforgettable. Highly recommend this villa and planning our return trip.
Gumbo Limbo is a very special place and I will certainly revisit as soon as possible!
Juan and Alejandro are two of the most awesome hosts I have yet to encounter- relaxed and so welcoming, they will provide you with everything you may need and more, including some fantastic cooking! They organised an Argentinian BBQ 1 night which I will not forget, and every morning started with a delicious breakfast made with love, overlooking the ocean. They are not only professionals making the art of running a small hotel seem effortless, but they really care about their guests and home, paying careful attention to every aspect.
The views from each of the rooms/bathrooms are stunning, and the rooms themselves are super comfy and really quite beautifully set up. I stayed with my boyfriend in the less expensive oceanview room for 3 nights and we then moved into one of their private villas for 3 nights and we loved both equally for different reasons. I would highly recommend gumbo limbo for any couple looking for a romantic trip away, as well as for small groups of friends in search of a very cool place to stay. There is a great infinity pool which overlooks the Costa Rican jungle and ocean, giving you an abundance of birds, monkeys, lizzards and other animals to watch all day or listen to at night, and its a 5 mins really fun off road drive to the beaches and main street.
you will definitely want a 4x4 car to reach the lodge which sits ontop of a steep hill overlooking the ocean below, but you could also rent quads there if you prefer too. just ask them for help and info, they speak both English and Spanish.
Santa Teresa itself is amazing, offering the best of a chilled surfers lifestyle and the ultimate beach luxury getaway. the food is great, the locals are so nice, there are parties as well as the option of quiet evenings, and it caters for all ages. the amazing beaches and perfect waves for swimming/surfing are certainly the main attraction but there is a great vibe to the place in general.
To summarise, you will NOT be disappointed. I have visited lots of wonderful places and I cannot believe I stumbled upon Gumbo Limbo on Air bnb and for such a good rate.
We had a Fantastic stay in the 2 Bedroom Villa overlooking Santa Teresa and the Ocean. We were there for 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. We recommend Gumbo Limbo villas and hope to return some day.
