The space
Our Cottage

Welcome to our cozy, quiet refuge! A perfect landing spot for your Astoria adventure. Located one block from the Columbia River, and the Astoria River Walk, we are near coffee shops, brew pubs, restaurants, grocery stores and even the famous “Goonie House”!

It's just a brisk 20 minute walk or 5 minute car ride, to the beautiful historical downtown Astoria with lots of unique activities, historical sites, museums, the Old 300 Trolley (weather permitted) restaurants and nightlife.

The cottage has an eclectic vibe, decorated in an inviting, artsy style, this peaceful, open, airy space feels like a cabin in the woods, while still being close to town. It has light pine walls, high beam ceiling, a romantic free-standing gas flame fireplace (perfect to cozy up to with a good book, fun games and a nice complimentary cup of tea or coffee), wood floors, many windows, including skylights, and a private enclosed roomy bathroom with a shower.

Our space easily accommodates up to 4 guests. Featuring 3 new beds; one queen, and two twins, along with (on request) a twin air mattress if a fourth bed if needed.

We do ask kids be at least 8yrs. (or older.) We do not feel our cottage is appropriate for toddlers or infants but reach out with questions or inquiries, we can talk. And please, NEVER leave underage visitors alone in the cottage for safety and liability issues.

Our cottage provides a microwave, sink, small frig/freezer, electric tea kettle, Brita water filter, dishes, glasses, cups and utensils. (But no stove/oven). We have a large screen TV with free antenna providing about ten+ local stations along with access to limited wifi TV including a Amazon fire stick with Netflix, Amazon Prime Movies and a new DVD player. Please note: if you sign yourself into a personal account, please sign out before you checkout!

There are two large screened windows along with a ceiling fan, portable fan, air purifier and small air conditioner that can help to circulate air. This space has several doors to the outside including a small deck overlooking our private yard which is yours to enjoy!
Our main house back deck and garage (100 feet in front of cottage) is not a shared space for all of our safety and comfort. (See photos and please reach out with questions).

Please note: check in is between 4-8pm. “Self-Check-In" is NOT available, so we ask that you do your best to arrive no later than 8pm, especially in the winter. However! We do understand delays in traveling, so reach out if this is not doable. Early check-in is often available too, so please contact us on the day (after 10am) of your visit with your preferred arrival time and we’ll do our best to make that happen.

And I encourage to check out my front yard colorful one of a kind sun disks and windchime display. AND GOONIE ART! Created in my own home art studio, these unique acrylic pieces are colorful, durable, one-of-a-kind, very affordable and travel well.

We wouldn't be hosting if we didn’t think we could keep all of us as safe as possible, by being fully vaccinated and following guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing. And since I take autoimmune suppressants for arthritis, my ability to fight infections is diminished, so I socially distance when greeting you and checking you in to the cottage.

Also…In case you didn't catch this...

Our yard serves as a sanctuary for semi-feral rescue cats and for that reason (along with my allergies to dogs), we can not allow dogs in our space including the yard, which needs to be crossed in order to enter the cottage.

FYI...My kitties ARE NOT allowed in the cottage to protect our guests with cat sensitivity.

Speaking of sensitivities, please refrain from using strong scents during your visit with us for the comfort of future guests. Thank you for your understanding in these matters.

Its been our pleasure to share this space with our friends and family regularly when they are in town. Do feel free to ask questions or get recommendations for a great adventure in Astoria. We truly love this space and think you will too! See you soon!

Guest access
We do not offer "Self Check-In" and enjoy meeting you on arrival and walking you back to the cottage through our yard that's home to many older shy cats.

We hope to make your visit easy, safe and smooth. So to help us make this happen please check-in between 4-8pm ( late check-in is discouraged especially in winter months due to change of season light and weather issues).

If you need early or later check-in, reach out ahead of time and we will do our best to accommodate.

In addition, contact us early on your visit day with your ETA so we can plan our day around meeting you on your arrival and be sure not to wander away!

FYI. Cell service is sketchy on the coast so be sure to reach out while you have service!

And did you know? Airbnb blocks our phone numbers from each other and assign each of us a temporary number. So if you need to communicate with me or I wth you, you must accept calls from unknown contacts as we do! I don't like it but it's their rules.

And we recommend you share your phone number with us, as will share ours, in case you leave something behind. Which happens often. However, if we discover it two days after your check out the only way we can reach you to help you recover your list item, is through the Airbnb app. And if you, like me when traveling, do not check the app after your trip, I can not reach you!

When you do arrive, park in the driveway (city requirement) on left side, next to fence please and I will pop out of the garage.

I do social distance since I take immune suppressants

Once checked in, this hideaway is very private and secluded, and your coming and going is easy.

We can answer any questions about the town and the cottage including restaurant and activities recommendations, outside to make your stay smooth for all of us.

Other things to note...In case you missed this, our yard is home to rescued cats. But they ARE NOT allowed in the cottage.

We do want your time here to be delightful, so please contact us for more details, questions or needs. If we can help, we will be happy to.

Our City Tax ID # is 76. My business license is listed under Judith P. Niland Art Creations. Our Astoria Homestay License is #19-03.

Welcome to our little corner of the world! I am a visual and craft artist who has live in Astoria for many, many years with John. He and I love spending time in our backyard garden with our rescue cats and friends. We enjoy our life on the coast and plan to spend the rest of our lives here. And maybe if your lucky a kitty or two might pop out to say “Hello” !
