The houses are located within an area of traditional islander (El Hierro) architecture with over 170 years old which are composed of more than two houses in the same ownership. The buildings have been rehabilitated following the advice of the old masters artisans of stone and wood who still live on the island (based on ancient techniques). Rehabilitation works were performed according to sustainable guidelines: use of local stone, old wood from demolition, re-used of old tiles, etc.

The space
The Poblado Jirdana are located in the small village of Isora in the center of the island which is a great place to visit and see (get to know) all the tourist sites and landscape of the Meridian Island. The Poblado Jirdana is located just 15 minutes from airport, 20 minutes from the “La Estaca” Port, 6 minutes from Valverde, the capital of the island, and close to the other population centers on the island: Frontera and El Pinar.

The environment surrounding the site is rural, traditional and very healthy for everyone. It is ideal for a day of rest in contact with nature in its purest form.

Poblado Jirdana, “Where silence is heard“.

House of exclusive use ( 6 accommodation units ) This building is built under the traditional architecture of El Hierro: gabled wooden beams and tile French and morphology in L with dry stones walls of varying thickness (from 0.70 m to 1.5 m thick). During the rehabilitation phased the walls have been reinforced with a traditional lime concrete, leaving colorful stones uncovered.

This house dates back to the s. XIX and consists of two floors. On the first one is located the living room, kitchen, bathroom, a courtyard (where, in the old days, family and friends gathered after work in the fields) and a beautiful garden where you can see the islands of la Gomera and Tenerife with Teide on clear days. On the second floor are located two doubled bedrooms, one with double bed and the other one with two single beds. This floor was the original house and is connected by a staircase.

Other things to note
El Hierro

The island of El Hierro (despite having only 272 km2) has a large number and variety of places to visit and discover. It stands out for its landscapes, its well-preserved ecosystem, natural beauty, its rich cuisine based on organic products of the earth, folklore, as well as hospitality and warmth provided by local people.

El Hierro Island is the most westerly of the Canaries (the westernmost point of Europe). It was designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, with 62% of its territory protected to preserve its natural and cultural diversity. It will be also the first island in the world to be energy self-sufficient. This will be achieved through a project combining a wind farm and two hydroelectric.

Here are some interesting places to visit:

Trails.
There is an important network of trails that furrow the island from north to south and from east to west. Most of them are highways that are in perfect condition (for hikers and everyone who love contacting with nature). We provide on arrival a map with the most important trails on the island. One of these ways, “Virgin de Los Reyes’ trail” (42 km), is used to moved “Virgen de Los Reyes” from its sanctuary in la Dehesa to the capital of the island, Valverde. It is celebrated every four years. This festival dates from 1760 and in July 2013 will be a new edition. It is the feast of most popular fervor of the archipelago and the island reaches more than tripled its population.

Viewpoints.
There are a score of viewpoints located at strategic points on the island. All are very different, so it is recommended to visit each one. It is ideal for photo enthusiasts and lovers of nature.

Monte de Laurisilva (Mount laurel).
It is the forest that occupies the center of the island. This forest is a “true living fosil”; it is the rest of the forest that covered Europe from north to south which after the tertiary glaciations disappeared. We recommend walk down the mountain road leading to Frontera where you can see the diversity of flora. Its greenness is due to the effect of the trade winds, the main source of water for the island.

House Museum The Alfar.
The Alfar House is almost in the center of Valverde. It is a museum where you can observe the characteristics of the traditional crafts of the island, mainly wool and wood. There is a small exhibition and sale of craft products where you can get the most original souvenirs.

El Golfo Valley.
The breathtaking valley of El Golfo is a caldera of sliding of 14 km in diameter where the town of Frontera is located. It is believed that the island of El Hierro grown to be 2500 m elevation, but a collapse and sliding of the northwest side of the main building made this stunning valley, a wonderful view for visitors. You can see it from different viewpoints: Jinamar, La peña, Bascos, Dos Hermanas and La Llanía. Ideal place to practice adventure sports like hang-gliding and paragliding.

Guinea Eco Museum.
Eco museum guinea, the most important of its kind in Europe, is a set of traditional islander houses that have been reconstructed using traditional methods, dating from the s. XIV to s. XIX. It is the aboriginal village of the Bambiches of the slopes of the Risco de Tibataje (Tibataje Cliff). It is a guided tour f approximately 1 ½ hours very entertaining.

Lagartario (Lizard).
Also found next to the eco Museum Guinea, this is where the prehistoric giant lizards were raised in captivity. “The Salmor Lizard” is a species in extreme danger of extinction. They can reach up to 1 meter in length and over 400 grams in weight. It is a guided tour, where you can observe the different specimens of the Lizard in natural areas through windows.

Pozo de La Salud Spa.
This unique Spa in the Canaries is recognized for its mineral water from the s. XVI to the present day. Many diseases can be treated with this mineral water, especially rheumatic diseases, skin and digestive tract associated. There is a doctor and a physiotherapist to provide advice on the different treatments applied in each case.

Mar de lavas La Restinga (Sea of Lave of La Restinga).
It is the landscape of Pahoehoe Lava world’s largest, along with Hawaii. It is observed around the main road leading to the fishing village of La Restinga. You can leave your car and take a tour on foot by yourself in order to enjoy the scenery. El Hierro is the youngest island of the Canaries.

Punta Restinga marine reserve.
This is the first marine reserve that was established in the Canary Islands, which has helped turn El Hierro in a world reference in scuba diving. There are hundreds of divers, from all over of Europe that comes to La Restinga for diving This is thanks to.

Lightouse Orchillas.
Until the discovery of America in 1492, the island of El Hierro was considered the western edge of the known world and so, according to Ptolemy's criteria, it was accepted that the line joining the two poles or 0º meridian passed through El Hierro. This remained in effect until 1883 when Greenwich replaced Orchilla as Zero Meridian. The lighthouse is surrounded by tiny craters called "hornitos" (little ovens) and it is a place of great peace and tranquility. To reach the Lighthouse, go to La Dehesa and then take the dirty road leading to El Faro. From this place, you can watch stunning sunsets at certain times of the year.

Natural pools.
The entire island is surrounded by natural or artificial pools on the coast, which are the delight of swimmers: “La Maceta, Charco Azul, La Caleta, La Laja, Charco de los Sargos, Pozo de Las Calcozas”, etc. The Island has only two sandy beaches, “El Verodal” (red Sand) and “Timirijaque Beach” (black sand).

Come and visit the island of El Hierro, also called "Meridian Island" or "the end of the known world," because for centuries and until the discovery of America(1492), it was the last inhabited land known to man.

El Hierro is famous for peace and silence, by the sunsets, the blue of its skies, the friendliness and hospitality of its people, its rich and varied cuisine, for its incredible natural scenery, for its incomparable seabed, for the purity of air, its sustainable development, its harmony with nature...
