This 18th-century home is located on the corner of Calle de las Trampas, one of the city’s most iconic cobblestone streets. Colonial architecture meets understated design in a harmonious flow of indoor-outdoor space. Solid stone walls that have survived the centuries, cool shady spaces, the lush, ever-changing vegetation around the patio and pool makes this a perfect private getaway to connect with history and enjoy the company of friends in the heart of Honda.

The space
The location in the historic center is unbeatable. Rich with history, the house is right next to the former home of the Viceroys. True to its original colonial structure, it is modest in size but sits on a generous corner lot, with nearly all of its original colonial walls intact. Palm trees, bougainvillea and a long, open gallery with inviting hammocks make for the perfect pool counterpart. The open kitchen merges with the lush, ever-changing vegetation around the patio and pool in a fully integrated space, inviting guests to enjoy long meals together, spend the afternoon floating under blue skies or lounging in a hammock in the shade.

The furnishings are simple but beautiful, carefully chosen to capture the essence of the house’s origins combined with modern comfort. One of the four rooms was conceived as a large multipurpose space that can be adapted to fit diverse needs or groups, for sleeping or socializing. Two other bedrooms have double beds built into the stone walls, organically integrated with the house’s history. Another is located in a private corner at the end of the patio, separate from the rest of the house with its own terrace for a perfect view of the surrounding historic town.

All four bathrooms have been recently renovated, again highlighting the connection between original materials, nature and function. Cool showers flowing from stone walls amid lush ferns are the perfect recipe for hot days.

Where you’ll be

Honda, Tolima, Colombia

The historic center of Honda is one of Colombia’s urban and architectural heritage sites. The old market place, built in the early twentieth-century Republican style, is an architectural relic and hub of activity. There’s also Navarro Bridge, the first metal bridge in South America, built by the San Francisco Bridge Company of New York. And the 17th-century cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Museo del Río Magdalena, reopened to the public in 2014, are must-sees.

Leaving the urban perimeter, you will find a wide variety of alternatives for hiking and activities in contact with nature .You can take a boat ride with local fishermen along the Magdalena River.
