Was a home away from home... Very welcoming and charming for sure... Porch was def. A pleasure ..... Loved the privacy fence back yard... Next time will bring our fur babies for sure:) very large and spacious and fit four adults just fine!!! Will be coming back again and again ... Brenda was so sweet and even invited us down to hang out with them for the celebration :)

  • Mosquitos..aren't...charming. When my girlfriend and I decided to plan our first vacation together, I sold her on the idea of spending a relaxing week in the Avondale/Riverside area. Before moving, I lived in Riverside and loved it and convinced her that she would too. I checked out airbnb and reserved a four-night-stay at Aimee and Brenda's "Charming Bungalow" in Avondale... We arrived, unpacked our stuff, and had a relatively relaxing first night. But just before bed we were both bitten by a mosquito. We located it. We squashed it. Went to bed thinking nothing of it. The next day we spent away from the house and came back again in the evening. We chose to just hang out, make dinner, and watch Netflix until we went to sleep. From that point until the end of our stay we killed between 15-20 mosquitos inside the house and, between the two of us, had 40-50 bites all over our bodies. One night they were so bad that my girlfriend wasn't able to sleep for more than 4 hours. It got to the point that we felt compelled to wear bug-spray to bed the final two nights. It was a nightmare. Unfortunately this bad experience defined our time spent in Jacksonville. As we left the house I sent Aimee and Brenda a text thanking them for opening up their house to us but informing them of our troubled short stay and asking for 1 day's refund (less than $80), out of principal. Along with the text I sent a photo of a small part of my girlfriend's leg that had at least 8 huge mosquito bites to give them an idea of what we went through. Brenda texted me back with a quick apology followed by her explanation that we should have informed her while we were there so she could have shown us the bug spray....and that while she was there (at a point when we were out) she didn't see any mosquitos. I called Aimee a couple of days later and explained to her what we went through and that I found Brenda's response unacceptable. Aimee stated that she felt a refund was unfair to them because they weren't contacted while it was happening. Also, that they've rented the place out before without mosquito problems and the renters after us weren't having issues. So, let's break this down from their questionable (and offensive) prospective according to our conversations: 1) No issue prior + no issue post = you're lying, there couldn't have been an issue; 2) If miraculously there were mosquitos, you should have worn bug-spray during your stay, because that's normal; 3) We could have intervened and gotten rid of the mosquitos without interfering with your paid time...oh, and cure the 20 something bites you already had. Don't stay here. There are homes in better locations that are just as cheap in this neighborhood and hopefully you won't have to be treated like this if you have an issue. I..wasn't..even..going..to..leave..a..review..but..Aimee..keeps..breaking..promises..to..call..me..back....

  • Better than a hotel stay, for sure. I loved the decor of the house--very charming. We enjoyed being able to relax on the porch and being close to area attractions. Great front porch...despite the heat, we spent most of our down-time there.

Loved the kitchen/dishes/new coffee-maker! Comfortable living room furniture/area--spacious.

Aimee was quick to respond to inquiries, and everything went smoothly with check-in/check-out.

The things I'd want to have known ahead of time: (1) the queen bed in the main bedroom is very uncomfortable. Fortunately, we'd brought along a queen air mattress that we were able to put on top of the bed and use. (2) The back yard has quite a bit of debris (boards with nails piled up). If traveling with children or pets, you'd want to be aware of safety concerns out back.

Overall, a very positive experience. Thanks, Aimee.

  • The house was super cute and very clean - I always worry about cleanliness when staying in someone's house.

It was very large with a nice screened in front porch - If it were a little cooler, we would've spent so much time out there!

The location to the football stadium was awesome too! We were in Jax for a 2-day concert at the stadium so we needed something close enough we could cab too and I think it was like a 10 minute ride, which is awesome.

    I would recommend staying here!

  • We had a great stay here. Aimee gave great communication the entire time. We met her mother as we arrived. She was very friendly and offered to help us if we needed it when we were there.
The house is an older house but was very clean and functional for our group of 4. There is everything you will need for a nice stay.
The neighborhood is older but nice and safe. The house is right up against the highway on the back side of the house but the noise was minimal. The most noise was the train but I think we only heard it twice in our two days there.
The yard needed mowing and trimming up but we were not there for the yard. We did not use the back yard. The front porch was great for hanging out and having coffee.
The pull out sofa bed is fairly uncomfortable but would be ok for kids who don't weigh much. The futon bed was a typical futon mattress and the bed in the bedroom was fine for us.
The is way better than a hotel and was at the same or better price. You can't beat it for the the price. Also, the location is great if you are going downtown. We even went to the beach one day and it was only about 30 minutes away.
We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Aimee!

  • We stayed for almost two weeks in this charming little house. It is very well equipped, clean and nicely decorated in a southern style. It has a relaxing feel to it and a friend living here said it felt like her grandmas house. The neighborhood is very calm with a lot of charming houses all different. We loved the front porch, and will definitely stay here again next time in Jacksonville !

  • The house was very comfortable and adorable. Charming is a very accurate description of the house and neighborhood. We really enjoyed the screened in front porch and everything we needed was available. The house was a perfect location for us. We had a family gathering for Easter and everyone that came (about 20 people) were very impressed and comfortable! Thank you for the very relaxing stay!

  • Cute Bungalow within walking distance of everything Avondale has to offer. If you want authentic shabby chic, you'll not be disappointed here. Nothing in this house is new, but everything is impeccably clean and everything works. The porch is the best feature of this house. We didn't spend any time in the back yard due to being butted up against a high-traffic off-ramp and railroad tracks.

If you stay in Avondale you will hear the train from any property in the zip code, and complaining about that is futile. Despite the proximity, the train horns were not as bad as I would have imagined it from having lived there for three years in the past.

The queen bed in the main bedroom is rock hard, and the futon is nice and cushy.
    Will stay here again!
