Comfortable and private for two guests, Casa Rica is located in a gated 5 acre estate of tropical gardens, fruit trees and exotic plants. The scent of ylang ylang trees perfume the air and the view from your porch is of large Guanacaste trees, exotic flowers, and the jungle faced coastal mountain range. The fruit garden provides a bounty of bananas, starfruit, coconuts, mango, citrus and more
The house is made of Balinese wood, having been designed and built on the island of Bali Indonesia and transported to Ojochal. The king sized bed is extra comfortable with a pillow top mattress, and the full bathroom and kitchen bring all the comforts of home. There is a security safe for valuables and an ipod station for your music. The private plunge pool will refresh and is surrounded by a deck which steps to the Balinese gazebo, where you can lounge away the day - or night. From the porch, the mountain and garden views are beautiful with many birds and butterflies making their home, including morphos - the electric blue butterfly.
The gardens are ever changing with seasonal fruits and flowers at hand for your enjoyment. There are paths throughout the 5 acre estate which will lead you through the botanical zen garden, the labyrinth, through bamboo groves to the Spa House, the meditation stream, or wherever you wander. You may hear the call of the area resident rainbow macaws, along with many other bird species.
Of special note is the on-premises "Palm Spa", which offers convenient spa treatments for guests of Casa Rica.
The garden is also home to The Namaste Pavilion, an open-sided, teak-floored sanctuary. This is where yoga classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, or private classes, by appointment, are available for your wellness and pleasure. There is also a DVD player and a choice of DVDs. Guests have also used this inspiring space as a painting studio.
And for those considering a more permanent situation in Costa Rica, we will be happy to guide you to trustworthy people who can show you available properties in the area.
The village of Ojochal is ideal for lovers of gourmet cuisine with a number of the area's finest restaurants. There's also a popular French bakery nearby with delicious breads, and a Licorea for those looking for special ingredients to cook at home.
Casa Rica is located 3 minutes from the scenic and paved Costa Rican coastal highway. No 4wd vehicle is necessary to access this property. This retreat will feel remote, but is convenient to many activities the area has to offer.
Just 5 minutes away is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, Playa Ventanas, and the popular surfer's beach in Dominical, is approximately 30 minutes north. The newly built San Buenas Golf Course is 10 minutes south, and many other local attractions are close by; waterfalls, horseback riding, zip lines, off shore fishing and boating, etc.. For book lovers there is a library within walking distance.
A perfect retreat, honeymoon hideaway, or for the solitude of one, Casa Rica is a place which can be a comfortable home base for exploring the riches of Costa Rica, or a private hideaway to rest and revive.

A wonderful place to stay! The property could not have been more beautiful. Sharon was a terrific host and this place truly is a slice of paradise.
AMAZING!! everything we could have wished for and so much more! The sweet smell of Ylang Ylang engulfs you as you enter the property. Birds of all sorts come and visit at all times to cool off at the bird bath. Sharon and Mac were lovely hosts, providing us with fresh eggs and a welcome basket of fruit and Sharon's wonderful bread. Sharon suggested many places to visit, all were great! We opted for a non four wheel drive and managed though I suggest getting one, it may be a bit smoother if you would like to travel to near by places since most turns off the main road are dirt. The grounds at casa rica are so beautiful. The ground keeper Minor was very helpful with opening coconuts! Many different plants to see and learn about. We flew into San Jose it was about a 3 hour drive but a nice one. We took to the coast, beautiful views. Check out the first Tilapia Restaurant in Punta Mala, there's beautiful water falls/ river to swim in and Johan who's family owns it was very nice to shows us the best swimming places and where it was safe to jump in. Playa Tortuga is a good place to watch the sunset but I wouldn't suggest swimming. Theres a bunch of swimming beaches close by which is great. Citrus restaurant was so tasty. And the bakery! We ate breakfast there everyday. The bread was oh so good we even asked if they could ship it to the USA lol. We will one day return. Everyone we came across in Costa Rica were so friendly and helpful. I'm so happy we chose this heaven on earth. PURA VIDA!!
We had a fantastic stay at Bali Rica! Mac and Sharon were outstanding hosts. The bed was great, and the accommodations were perfect. It's rare when the actual BNB is better than the pictures but this place was definitely better. The setting for the cabin was great, convenient to everything and isolated enough to make us feel like we had all the privacy we needed. When we needed anything, our hosts produced! Definitely a "highly recommend" to anyone who wants to know.
We LOVED Casa Rica!! Sharon was the ultimate host - from providing travel advice, showing us around the property, helping us find unique adventures, and providing amazing massages through Palm Spa. Sadly, we weren't able able to meet Mac this time around, but we plan on coming back very soon for a little more "Pura Vida"
While staying at Casa Rica be sure to try at least one yoga class! The instructor was extremely helpful, and the studio is breathtaking. Also stop by the local bakery for the greatest morning goodies :) Finally, do not leave before checking out Playa Ventanas or the Pavon Waterfall - You will not be disappointed!
We went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. It was magical. We loved Mac and Sharon's property and Ojochal. We'd highly renting a vehicle if you stay there. We really appreciated the welcome basket with fresh banana bread. Minor, the gardner, was such a lovely individual and very helpful. We wish we spoke more spanish to communicate more with him. All in all, a fabulous experience and we would highly recommend it.
Mac and Sharon were so hospitable. There place was absolutely beautiful. It is nested in the village of Ojochal, which is the perfect place for a getaway. The village itself contains many great restaurants that highly recommend exploring. Our favorites were Exotica, Citrus, and Ylang Ylang. At Casa Rica you are close to many tour sites (zip-lining, snorkeling, horseback riding, and waterfalls). We took a day and drove to the Manual Antonio National Park which is about an hour away. Everything you need for a great stay is at your fingertips in Casa Rica! I would highly recommend booking as much time as you can at this sanctuary in Costa Rica!
Words cannot describe how amazing and magical BaliRica is. Grateful and can't wait to visit you both along with the furry and feathered:) thank you.
Such a beautiful place, in a beautiful corner of Costa Rica! Mac and Sharon are fabulous and attentive hosts (see: offering beach chairs and umbrella, homemade banana bread, bouquet of fresh flowers from the grounds on our porch when we arrived, welcome basket with eggs, fruit, milk, and beer), and the grounds are a stunning and restful retreat after active (or not) days. Couldn't recommend this place more! One word to note for those looking for true (email hidden)e house is hidden from view from Casa Bambu (the other guest house), but sound can sometimes carry, so best to book when Casa Bambu is vacant.
All in all, this was a gorgeous and idyllic place to spend a week!
My boyfriend and I spent 3 days at "Bali Rica". Mac and Sha were a very welcoming couple, it was so nice to receive a welcome basket with milk, fresh fruit from their own trees, banana bread, and eggs so we didn't have to search high and low for our first breakfast. We also appreciated that they supplied us with a cell phone to make local calls, that was fantastic for getting lost--which you will, as directions in the area are not very concrete. As a spontaneous young city couple, we booked this lovely house the night before arriving, not realizing what a small, sleepy town Ojochal is. It's a good place for those who really want to get away from it all, honeymooners, older couples, or people who just need to shut the world out. We also went in May which is the start of the rainy season and it gets pitch black by 6, so if you are not an early riser bring plenty of books or indoor activities to keep you busy until the next morning. Also make sure you go out to dinner by 7! Stuff closes early. The internet was spotty and the lights flickered, but it is a rather remote area so it's to be expected. Honestly, the qualms about our stay are more on us for not doing some research first! The property was lovely, my favorite part was the plunge pool and the pagoda type structure, where you can sit and reflect and look and the cloud topped mountains. Highlight of our stay was finding the beaches with caves! I am a photographer and got some awesome pics. Thanks so much for having us!
My husband and I spent a whole week at Casa Rica for our honeymoon. It was absolute paradise. Mac and Sharon were so accommodating and really provided us with everything we needed for our stay (fresh-baked banana bread, wireless connection, and a local phone so we could call to book tours and make restaurant reservations). The cabina was beautiful and comfortable. The plunge pool was fantastic and the grounds are breathtaking. Our hosts showed the most amazing hospitality and had some really incredible suggestions for things to do in the area (don't miss the mangrove tour in Sierpe or dinner at Azul during sunset). We will always hold Casa Rica in a special place in our hearts.
