About this listing
I am happy to host responsible visitors as my guests. I am careful to make sure it is the right match for my home- Perfect for a single or a couple. This is a an especially personable EV apt- please read the full description. Thanks
Kitchen, windows look out the back, quiet and sunny and I have a bird feeder which serves the community finches outside the window.
A charming artist's home for responsible guests in a small friendly and safe building in the east village.
My lovely east village floor-through home is available for a responsible older couple or single (35+) looking for a clean quiet temporary apartment in the city.
It is beautifully furnished with designer furniture and family antiques. There are windows front and back of this typical railroad apt, with a sunny kitchen, and quiet bedroom with a new super comfortable plush firm full (double) mattress. There is a desk with wifi ( w/small speakers and a usb printer for your use), hd tv w/local channels (w/vhs and dvd player). Includes an ironing board, a full kitchen with all-clad pans, a tivoli radio in the kitchen, a gas oven, linens and towels. The apt also includes cleaning every two weeks and i provide sheets and towels.
This is a very simple apartment, there is no microwave, and true to the tenement design- only one sink in the kitchen! The bathroom has a great bath and shower. For laundry the business on Ave B picks up and delivers or you can use their coin machines and dry in the apt- i have a drying wrack. The typical tenement is about 450 sq ft.
No smoking, and shoes off at the door, appropriate for a couple or one person, not two single visitors as there is only one bed. It is important to understand that no extra guests are to be invited to stay at the apt during the reservation and absolutely no parties- though friends and family are welcome to stop by- as long as they take their shoes off and are respectful of my personal belonging.
This is a friendly, small building so it is important to be respectful of the neighbors, quiet in the hallway, and pay attention with the recycling bins.
The security deposit is handled by the website.. their new policy is not to charge your card anything unless there is a claim. So the security deposit amount is pro forma.. and i have never had cause to use it. Everyone has always been very conscientious and replaced something or simply let me know if a glass broke. This is not a problem!
The apt is a two flight walk up. on the second floor above the street. The place is nice and warm in the winter and has a lovely breeze in the summer with ceiling fans, ac, and windows in the front and back.
The East Village is walking distance to NYU, SOHO, everywhere downtown. Nearest subway is the F train East Village stop. There is also a great East River track off sixth street. The buses are the M14, M9, and M21. The nearest subway is the 2nd Ave/East Village stop on the F train. In the summer there is the Pitt St. pool one block away which is great for morning laps (7am).
You will have wifi and a comfortable space, full kitchen, shower and bath. Cleaning person scheduled every two weeks. Sheets and linens provided. Since it is my home you also get my personal help regarding all details of your trip.
I check in throughout your stay. Communication is key. I am available for all inquiries regarding the city and neighborhood and especially regarding my home- I do meet you when you arrive and review everything necessary for the apt. And leave thorough written explanations for reference.
The east village is the best for a thousand choices of super affordable restos, bars, and clubs. Walking distance to soho, Chinatown, NYU, West Village, even Williamsburg.
We've got the m14 bus, the M9 and the F and 6 trains, plus city bikes around the corner.
You will have the full home. Wifi, full kitchen, bath/shower- yoga mat.. the works.
Interaction with Guests
I am available throughout your stay. Communication is very important before and during.. so all questions can be answered. I will help on any topic re the neighborhood or city.. my pleasure.
The neighborhood is friendly, active, and the best in Manhattan for a huge range of inexpensive international resto options. All neighborhoods accessible on foot really from the LES.
You've got the F train, the L train, and buses M9, M21, M14A and D and citybikes around the corner!
Other Things to Note
Don't be surprised that a tenement apt only has one sink! Classic. These buildings were built in the 1890's for immigrants from all over the world. My apt used to house two families! The neighborhood has a rich history and remains wildly international.
This apt is for a single person or a couple (35+) as there is one double bed. Two people is the maximum. -The sofa is not an extra bed for visitors.
You are responsible for my home, so please do not allow anyone at all into the apt who you do not know well, and any friend is only allowed when you are present. All guests are to take their shoes off!
Shoes off in apt
I provide sheets and towels. I ask that the bed be stripped when you leave and that you collect all the laundry together. Also i ask that the pots and pans all be left as clean as when you arrived. The cleaning person will be coming on schedule so the general cleaning is usually taken care of. Also i ask that any general food, olive oil, etc, supplies that are used be replenished! Thank you!
All the furniture and things are dear to me, many are from my family and so i trust that you will take care in the apt. Please no drinks or food near the sofa in the living room.
Please be aware that there is no home phone. But i trust that you will have a cell, rent a local 'go phone' (if you are coming from another country), or use an internet phone connection! I have a perfectly good private high speed internet connection for that!
We use a local laundromat which is half a block away, one of them will pick up and deliver, please ask if you need more information regarding this.
It is important to be respectful of my possessions and books and respect my privacy. The desk is private and the books are not to be borrowed.
Remember: This is very much my home and you will be my guest.
Please do not move any art on the walls, remove any books, or disturb any other of my belongings.
All the dishes that you need will be in easy view, and space will be made in the closet and two drawers made available for your use. All linens and towels will be on the bed or at the foot of the bed. No other towels or sheets are for your use. You will have more than enough and a change of sheets for the bed. If the sheets are changed- usually after one week- it is your responsibility to wash the first set of sheets you used. Thank you.
We recycle. 1)paper, 2) plastic bottles without tops and glass, (NO plastic bags with either 1 or 2), and 3) all other regular garbage.
Consideration for the neighbors is important. No parties, and please no loud music.
Great location, apartment lovely decorated and very charming. It was a real pleasure to stay here and Anna is so nice. I really enjoyed.
The apartment is beautiful and is clearly a home that is cherished. We had a lovely, comfortable stay and it really felt like a home from home in New York. A great neighbourhood with super places to eat and we took our host's advice and walked over the Williamsburg bridge on our first day, which was fantastic. Our host was very considerate and gave us full instructions for the apartment, with lots of great tips for making the most of our visit.
Anna is a truely exceptional person. Her apartment was like a dreamt up comfortable, warm, safe & inspiring place to explore New York from,& I felt blessed to be there. I especially enjoyed the bird feeding every morning. It is also very quiet.
Anna did everything she could to help me.
I could not recommend her place highly enough for someone travelling alone.
Thanks so much Anna
Charlotte made us fell very welcome, she was there to meet us after a long flight from LA. The place is totally as described, it is spacious, light and really quiet. This was my first visit to NYC, and I loved this location, short but interesting stroll to F train, very cool eateries and Union Market right round corner. If there was anything we couldn't find, we were able to contact Charlotte and she would respond straight away. This is a great place for couples looking for a pad in Alphabet City. Thanks Charlotte we really enjoyed staying at your place Andrew and Amanda.
We spent 15 wonderful days in Manhattan. We felt very comfortable in the apartment of Charlotte. The apt is very clean and tidy and decorated with artwork. The apt has all elements for cooking. The sheets, towels and tea towels were clean and in perfect condition. We felt right at home. The apt has everything you need to spend beautiful days visiting New York.
The apt is very well located, close to subway F line. The neighborhood is nice and safe. There are many bars and food places, such as grocery stores.
Charlotte has been very attentive to all our queries. We always well advised. She waited for us at the apartment when we arrived even if it has delayed the arrival of our flight.
Charlotte was welcoming and helpful when we arrived in the big apple. The lower east side was cool. Very quiet street around the home but bustling with night life just a few buildings over. Subway was only a couple of blocks away for exploring other parts of NYC. It was a great experience. Thank you Charlotte!
Charlotte was great and I loved her apartment! Not only was it in a great location but it was a wonderful place to come back to decompress after a long day. It was the perfect place to have for my fabulous 2 weeks in NYC.
