The Ullrich Suite is an unusual and beautifully furnished one-bedroom apartment in St. Louis' delightful Tower Grove East neighborhood — located in a building that began its life as a storefront bakery in 1909. The apartment features an open floor plan, and weekly housekeeping is included.

The space
Before your arrival, the Ullrich Suite will be stocked with welcome teas and treats, freshly roasted coffee, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. You'll also find a range of cleaning supplies and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, and more). Please note that we do not replenish these items during your stay.

The Space
A large arts-and-crafts-style bookcase divides the living area from the sleeping area. The bedroom is open-concept rather than a separate room. The Ullrich Suite sleeps up to three: a king-sized bed in the sleeping area and a comfortable couch in the living room. If you'd like the couch made up for a third guest before your arrival, simply reserve for three.

The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with a large gas range, frost-free refrigerator, dishwasher, and everything needed for comfortable meal preparation. The kitchen's built-in hutch and china cabinet are original to the building.

A note on the bathroom: it's cozy. There is no soaking tub — instead, a shower and a small "shave your legs" tub. We'd rather you know this upfront than be surprised upon arrival.

Connectivity & Entertainment
The Ullrich Suite has high-speed internet, with the modem and router in the apartment. The smart TV includes an antenna for local stations. You are welcome to log into your own streaming services via Roku.

Outdoor Space
In warmer weather, step outside to enjoy the fountain and garden in the Ullrich's gated courtyard — a lovely spot for morning coffee.

The Neighborhood
Tower Grove East is a hidden gem — a historic, walkable neighborhood full of character, tree-lined streets, and some of St. Louis' best restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Walk or bike to Tower Grove Park, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the South Grand dining corridor.

For transit, the Grand #70 bus is a 10-minute walk, with a direct connection to Metrolink, St. Louis' regional rail.

SF Shannon's vacation rental properties are all located in the historic core of St. Louis. Guests sometimes ask whether the neighborhood is safe. We live here. SF Shannon co-owner Rachel raised her family six blocks from the Ullrich Suite — and has always felt at home.

The Story Behind the Name
The Ullrich Suite is named for the Ullrich family, who built, worked, and lived at 3206 Shenandoah for the first half of the 20th century.

Joseph Ullrich & Sons Bakery originally operated on Geyer Avenue, near what is now the I-44/Jefferson interchange. Around 1908, the family relocated to Shenandoah Avenue, and the building was completed in 1909. What is now the living and sleeping area was once the bakery's showroom; the current kitchen was the family's dining room. When you stay here, you're a guest in a piece of St. Louis history.

The Ullrich Suite has central air conditioning, with a thermostat in the apartment controlled by you.

The Ullrich Suite is heated by a classic hot water radiant heating radiator system — the same efficient, even heat that warmed St. Louis homes a century ago. The thermostat for the building's heat system is in a second-floor apartment. The Ullrich Suite is heated to about 70 degrees during heating season.

Other Practical Details
The Ullrich Suite is on the ground floor, with one step at the entrance. Smoking is prohibited throughout the premises.

Street parking is free, directly in front of the building. Years ago a law office was located in what is now the Ullrich Suite. The owner of the law firm successfully lobbied the city to install "30-Minute Only" signs, which are still there. This parking is for you and the other residents in the building. You are welcome to park there as long as you like.
