Calm and convenient location

Guests say this area is peaceful and it’s easy to get around.
(Price includes 10% bed tax & no cleaning fee!) The "barndominium" tiny house is a cozy, welcoming & unique space just steps away from Ferndale’s restaurants, shops, hiking trails and live music. Our location means you can park the car and walk to all Ferndale has to offer. Enjoy our peaceful creekside half acre and garden atrium. Great stop to explore the redwoods & hiking. Beach, 5 miles. Hosts publish a yearly Ferndale guide. Will send a link when book. Follow us on the 'gram! @ferndaleairbnb.

The space
Our 420 sq. ft. barndominum — converted from a historic barn — is cozy and unique. Its location is prime; park your car behind the barn and enjoy the best of Ferndale at your doorstep by foot while still enjoying country views. The location is just steps away from Ferndale restaurants, shops and hiking trails. It's a great space to nestle into, especially during winter months next to the fireplace. Or, fling open our wood french doors in the spring and summer and take in the half-acre field that adjoins a flowing Francis Creek and enjoy our unique atrium.

A combo living room/kitchen are downstairs; a bedroom with open bath/shower upstairs. Note the bath/shower are open to the bedroom and the bedroom has no door. (The toilet room has a door.) The clawfoot tub/shower combo (no grab bar/deep tub to step into) has a heated towel bar close by. Downstairs and upstairs have electric fireplaces. We also have a heated mattress pad on the upstairs bed with dual controls. An air purifier is also in the upstairs bedroom. The barndominium is insulated; Ferndale winter nights (and summer, when the coastal fog hangs around) can get chilly. At night, our back field trees are lit up by white lights and by day, deer graze right outside the back deck. The space has wi-fi and our smart television offers Netflix, Amazon, etc. Enjoy our already paid for downloads of “The Majestic” and “Outbreak,” both filmed in Ferndale and Guy Fieri’s (yup, he’s from Ferndale) hometown tour of Ferndale in a DDD episode. (We do not offer cable TV.)

We provide a few goodies in our vintage fridge for you, including a couple of “cold ones” for your arrival and English muffins, eggs, jam, cereal for a light breakfast. We have different coffee (and lots of making options such as a Nespresso machine, frother, burr grinder, French press, Italian stovetop espresso pot and pour over brewer) and tea options. We also, during nice days, open up the doors to our unique atrium in our back property and invite guests to make themselves a cup of tea and enjoy a sweet treat. You're welcome to talk to our houseplants as well.

Live music is available at several venues just steps from the barndominium ,as are eateries, a grocery and a liquor store and several great coffee shops.

There are two airbnbs on our large property and our main larger house (Charming Ferndale Victorian/available only during summer months) sleeps four.

Hosts publish yearly the Ferndale Enterprise Souvenir Edition. Happy to send a digital copy upon booking. Also plenty of copies available upon arrival. It's chocked full of everything "Ferndale!"

Guest access
Our guests are welcome to wander around our back half-acre property that is alongside Francis Creek. On nice days, we have the doors open to our atrium and invite you to put the kettle on and make yourself a cup of tea, choosing from one of our vintage teapots and china teacups. Find a sweet treat in our mini fridge to go along with your cuppa. Sit on our vintage couch and enjoy the jazz music coming from our vintage radio while you enjoy the views and garden. (Note: on your way to the atrium, you will pass our daughter's and SIL's house/deck. They too enjoy the creekside lawn.) We also allow our front house guests to use the back property and our summer shuttlecock net. We ask all our guests to be respectful of each others' privacy. We have not had any issues to date.

Other things to note
Please note that we host two Airbnbs on our property. Our main Victorian house sleeps four (only rented in summer) and our barn sleeps two. The two locations are separated by a large gravel driveway but if both places are booked, you may see/interact with other guests when they are coming and going. Your hosts also live on the property in an small apartment behind the main house when there are guests. (Also, infants are counted as guests in our listing.) We include the 10% Transient Occupancy Tax required by the city in our listed nightly rental fee. (No extra fees to you, as opposed to the listed hotel rooms which charge the tax after you arrive.) If you are interested in doing a photo shoot during your stay, please note we have an additional charge of $100 per hour if you invite a professional photographer to the property. If you want to work out while visiting Ferndale, the barndominium is directly across the street from Ferndale InLight Fitness gym. We have a guest key for a $10 visit to the gym. If you want to "work," during your visit, the living room's coffee table converts to an eating/laptop table. Ferndale also has a much-loved volunteer fire department. If you hear the fire whistle, no need to panic. It summons the volunteers.

No third-party bookings. We require those that stay to have their own Airbnb profile etc. We can’t accommodate early check ins or late check outs. Also, booked guests are only allowed on property. If you would like to invite non-booked guests to the property, please check with hosts first. We do not allow pets, service or assistance animals since we have a family member who utilizes the spot and is severely allergic.

NO SMOKING OF ANYTHING! If you smoke marijuana or cigarettes or vape please don't book our space. The smell lingers on your clothes (even if you smoke outside) and permeates our rental.

Neighborhood highlights

Ferndale is a throwback to a Norman Rockwell America and The Barndominium is a perfect spot to experience the historic and unique Victorian Village. There's plenty to do within the city limits (leave your car keys behind) — shopping, dining, art galleries, well-preserved architecture, a world-class local museum, parades, firemen's games, fun runs, live music, live horse-racing at the Humboldt County Fair and our own repertory theatre — but there's also plenty to do within a short drive. The beach is a 10-minute scenic drive from The Barndominium (no traffic and no parking issues) and features well-maintained BLM trails that deliver you onto, what is most times, a private beach. A trip over historic Fernbridge takes you to the Humboldt Bay Wildlife Refuge (great place to walk the trails, all on flat land, and view wildlife and wetland habitat). Across Hwy 101 from the refuge is the College of the Redwoods botanical garden — another great picnic spot. Just 20 minutes north is the new Redwood Sky Walk. A must see to get a bird's eye view of our beloved redwood trees. The North Coast's inspiring redwoods are a 20-minute drive south and the waterfront town of Eureka is 20 minutes to the north.
