My girlfriend and I stayed on the farm over a recent weekend. It could not be a better place to get away for a weekend of rest and relaxation or just to retreat from it all.
The farmhouse is located on a beautiful property next to the sea with local beaches only a short walk away. Nestled in beautiful inlet of Ballyshane, the property has a vegetable garden with chickens that produce fresh eggs for breakfast. The farmhouse is beautiful inside and has a lovely rustic finish, with a wood burning stove, candles, and high ceilings, and is well stocked for cooking local food from one of the nearby farmers markets.
Kenneth had the place stocked and is very helpful in pointing out anything local. We visited beaches, restaurants, markets, farmers market, etc… we arrived late the first night and there was a storm and he treated us a fabulous dinner -though not sure this is part of the package. ☺ . For the duration of our stay, Kenneth was exceptionally hospitable and we were made to feel at home.
We could not be happier with our stay. We’re looking forward to coming back in the spring and summer.
'The Barn', what a wonderful place! Everything about it was great. The barns decor is exquisite, so beautifully decorated, the whole place has such a warmth (I particularly loved the fire). The Barn was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need; beds were incredibly comfortable with lovely linen, the shower was powerful, the kitchen had every utensil you could need. It has been restored as one could only describe as a 'labour of love'.
Kenneth was so accommodating (we gave very little notice), yet he had stocked the fridge with some delicious local products (even fresh eggs (from the hens on the estate), met us and ensured we had everything we needed. It is set in beautiful grounds, (sunrise from the window was breathtaking) you can view the sea from the living room.
The tranquility of the place allowed us (family of 4) to all relax and we just enjoyed being in such a beautiful part of the country. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 'The Barn' a perfect getaway. Thanks Kenneth for making our stay so pleasurable.
We just got back from a week at Kenneth's barn. We had an absolute lovely time. The fridge was stocked with lovely foods from the farmers market, the bedroom was very comfortable and the living room was really cozy. We loved the sofa and woodburner. The donkeys, geese and chickens completed the picture. It was just what we where looking for. The barn is just a minutes walk from the cliffs and makes a great walk. Midleton is very close (farmers market, supermarkets and Jameson distillery) and Cork is just a half hour drive. So plenty to do. Thank you Canice for your hospitality. We had a great time!
Just returned from a lovely three night stay at the barn. Set in the grounds of a large house, separated by a garden, this is a delightful place to stay. The bedrooms have luxurious bedding and there is a unique style to the furnishings and decor, all tasteful and comfortable. We found the fridge to be well stocked for our arrival and there were logs for the stove. It's location is extraordinary, deep in the countryside, yet right on the coast, the strand is a pleasant walk along the lane. A car is essential here and there is a good supermarket in the local village Whitegate, there are a choice of pubs, restaurants and other attractions close by. We plan to return in the summer when we can see the gardens and surrounding area in all their glory.
