Other things to note

Directions: Casa Uvita is located in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica, three hours from San Jose. Get on the new coastal highway--La Costanera--and follow it south to Jacó, Quepos, Dominical and then Uvita (20 min. south of Dominical). A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.

Directions to Casa Uvita, coming from Dominical

Once you are in Uvita, keep heading south on the Coastal highway.
Pass the first supermercado BM (next to Banco de Costa Rica).
Cross a bridge. Pass Bridgestone Tires.
Pass the second supermercado BM (next to Marino Ballena restaurant).
Turn left at the next road, across from Cabinas Gato. There is a small sign that says "Casa Uvita" on our road.
Follow the road 2 km. east, straight up the mountain road known as La Unión. There will be one fork in the road where you will see another "Casa Uvita" sign. Keep going straight, veering slightly right.
Casa Uvita will be visible from the road, on the left-hand side. It is a two-story green and brownish house, with a stone retaining wall.

Michele is from the US but has spent decades in Costa Rica. It was nice to be able to speak directly with the host and not have a language issue. Michele has a home next to this rental and is available to answer questions and to help as needed. The road to the house was rough. It is a dirt road, straight up a steep, high hill. That surprised me. We could see the ocean from our window. That was beautiful. But you are far from the beach. It takes planning and time to get to the ocean. It is not any easy drive. The house was CLEAN. That is important to me. But being a green house, you can not flush your TP. That was odd. And the electricity is solar. So you have limited electricity at night. I tried to wake up early to work online but found the wifi wouldn't go on until around 10 AM when the solar panels warmed up and charged in the sun. During the day the wifi was strong. Also, there are two dogs that hang out at this house. They are nice dogs. If you are dog people, you'll love them. This home is a jungle home. If that is the adventure you are looking for, this is a good one. If you want easy access to the beach, I would recommend something closer to the water.

Everything was just great! Even though Michele couldn't be there personally she was very caring and available by phone. Her daughter Lucy was taking care of us locally and did a perfect job. No matter if tours concerned, hiking tips, or appointments by the doctor she managed everything exceptionally well! Carlos, another caretaker took us on a hiking tour to wonderful waterfall. Besides the location, the house, and everything else was just great. The view on the ocean is stunning. The surrounding nature is gorgeous. The house is beautifully laid out and very comfortably furnished. Uvita as next village is just a 5 minute drive away. The ocean, the beach, and the NP Marino Ballena is also close by. There are also a supermarket and an ATM of Banco National close by. We really enjoyed every single minute to the fullest! If there would be a 6 star rating, we'd rate that.

From the start I knew Casa Uvita would be the right house for us! Michele responded to my email right away and answered all the questions I had. When we arrived to the house we were more than pleased! The views were spectacular, we had monkeys and sloths right outside and most was immaculate! Carlos and Ava the caretakers of the property were there to greet us and Carlos even took us on a hike in the jungle to the most beautiful waterfall. They came everyday to check in on us to make sure we had everything we needed...and we did. You are minutes away from beautiful beaches, horseback riding, restaurants, and 2 grocery stores. The house has everything you need to have a great BBQ with friends including a grill, movies, and games! We will definitely be back to stay here soon!
