The space
This architecturally significant 4-bedroom view home--all surrounded by 53 acres of privacy in coveted West Sound offers many landscapes: forested hills, mossy knolls, orchards and pastures. Appel Haus is a wonderful spot for a romantic getaway, visiting with friends and family, or peaceful time on your own. Relax and unwind, or call it home base while you hike, kayak, bike, swim, fish, shop local boutiques, dine, tour local farms, whale watch, or take art or yoga classes.

The house, located in one of the sunniest areas of the island, offers lovely views of the sound, forest and pastoral land surrounding the house.

The main house is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath house. The main-floor master has a king bed with an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower enclosed with beautiful imported Italian tile.

In the main house, the first upstairs guest room has two twin beds. The second has a queen bed. There is a shared full bath with a bath/shower combo. All guest towels and linens are provided.

There is also a detached 1-bedroom guestroom, with an additional bedroom and 1/2 bath. This has two twin beds, and a bath with toilet and sink. If you'd like to rent and have access to this space, please and add ONE additional guest for a total of 7 (even if two will be staying). This will add an additional fee of $100 per night.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the cookware, dishes, utensils and appliances you will need. There is also a full pantry with the basics--spices, oils and vinegars and baking supplies. Appliances are all high-end: Viking stove, Meile dishwasher, Sub Zero fridge/freezer, Dacor oven, microwave and warming drawer.

There is a large dining room table that can easily seat 8.

The living room is circled with large picture windows to take in the view of the water, deer, bunnies and eagles. In the upper loft we have a flat screen Smart TV with access to Prime, Netflix, etc. In addition, there is a DVD player. Bring your own DVDs or borrow one from our library. There are cards, puzzles and games to keep you entertained if you come in long enough from the beauty of Orcas. In the cooler months, radiant underfloor heating keeps the home warm and cozy.

There are plenty of outdoor spaces to relax, and a hot tub under the stars.

There is a fire pit for nighttime s'mores and music just a short walk away.

Just down the path are 52 happy chickens, 5 goats, 10 ducks and a large vegetable garden. Grab fresh eggs for your morning breakfast, or if you are a summer visitor, plan dinner around what is in season in the garden: tomatoes, squash, greens, peas and more. Take our five friendly goats for a walk or just let them tell you stories--endlessly entertaining tales!

You will have full use of the washer and dryer, including detergent and softener.

There is free WiFi on the premises

Guest access
The entire house will be yours. Owners live on a separate parcel on the property as well, just a 3 minute walk down the hill if the need arises, but will give you all of the privacy you'd like.

Other things to note
While children are welcome, if you have small children with you, it should be noted that the house sits up on a high bluff, and while there is not a sheer drop off, children should be watched closely. There is also an open loft down to the lower floor, so agile toddlers would need to be watched. In addition, at the farm these are two ponds that will require supervision of children.
This house is wheelchair accessible. For elderly guests or those with difficulty moving around, the main floor of the house has everything you need--kitchen, laundry and master bed and bath.

My work: mom/apple farmer
Lives in Washington, United States
I am a retired flight attendant, mom to three grown kids and wife to a great husband. With my job, we have travelled the world and stay almost exclusively at small b and b's, inns or homes. We know what makes us feel welcome, and hope to have thought of all the things needed to make you feel at home as well. We are now "retired" and restoring an historic 150 year old Orcas fruit orchard. Slanted Apple Farm is a labor of love and a huge lifestyle change. We now enjoy riding tractors around, walking our goats and listening to all the stories our chickens have to tell us!
