About This Listing
Plzeň! Lonely Planet Top 10 in 2014 and European Capital of Culture in 2015! Welcome to the World Capital of Beer! We are just minutes away from everything that makes this city great - and it's more than just what's in the glass...it's in the heart.
We welcome you to our beautiful studio apartment right next door to our home! The flat comes equipped with a full bath - with whirlpool - full kitchen, plenty of closet space and access to our lovely terrace! The apartment is used as a home office occasionally and as a place for in-laws and friends to sleep-over, thus the bed also folds into a couch.
We reside in the lovely quarter of Plzen known as Slovany, the most popular part of the city for living. We are exactly between two tram line less than 150 meters away, as well as a trolley bus stop. The public transport will have you in the center in 3 minutes, but walking is just 10 minutes on a beautiful day and the main train station is exactly 8 minutes by foot. And if you arrive by car, there is plenty of free street parking all around...
There are three supermarkets, a shopping mall, and the largest swimming pool (indoor/outdoor) in the city only a few minutes on foot from our front door. We can recommend a few restaurants very near our home - or any in the city - as well as some of the best pubs in the country!
We also have a folding baby-bed should you need one and we are, of course, very kid friendly! Toys, blankets, stuffed animals, inflatable kiddie pool, even a little training potty if your kids - or you - haven't perfected that art!
My wife has lived in Slovany all of her life, and I first came to Plzen from Los Angeles in 2004. We love to share the city we call home and because our apartment is right next door, you can look forward to the personal introduction that makes every new place feel so familiar and fun!
You will have full, private access to the flat and can share our lovely terrace any time you like. The grill is standing by waiting to be fired up, and the outdoor seating is a lovely way to enjoy the morning. Coffee, tea and snacks are always provided, as well as a few cold beers in the fridge. Candles and the jacuzzi bathtub are standing by as well if you're in the mood to relax.
Interaction with Guests
For us, Airbnb means "Air Bed 'n Beer" - and you can usually count on me to enjoy the second one with you! Our guests are welcomed as family and friend - we will always be here to greet you!
Slovany is one of the most favorite quarters in Plzeň - supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and bars all within 3 minutes walk. But since we are less than 15 minutes to the city center on foot, or 5 minutes by tram - you'll probably spend most of your time there!
Two tram lines stop near our door, as does one of the many trolley buses criss-crossing the city. Or catch the Dragon Boat as they head down the river...but you'll have to ask me about that one!
Other Things to Note
We are so proud that Plzen will be the 2015 European Capital of Culture...and is now listed in Lonely Planet's Best in Europe 2014!
We welcome our guests as new friends, and hope you will treat our home as you would your own. It is traditional in Czech homes to remove your shoes inside the home - we like to keep it that way as well. We ask that you do not smoke except on the terrace, that you limit loud music after 9pm, and that you enjoy the free beer in the fridge!
Michael was really nice, he told us all the places we should visit and gave us pretty much information about Plzen. The apartment is great, clean and perfect for a Coupe. You can find everything you need and it's just a 10-15 minutes walk to the city center.
Michael was a very kind host, erverything went well and the flat is fantastic.
Michael is an excellent host, he was there to let us in, give us the keys, and maps AND had beer in the fridge!!
The peaceful and private apartment was perfect in every way; fully equipped kitchen, awesome tub and super comfy bed. We could not have asked for more.
We are thinking we will return to Pilsen to stay here before we leave Czech in a few months.
This was another wonderful Airbnb experience. Let's start with the apartment -- it was even more beautiful than the description and the pictures -- very clean, comfortable, and beautifully equipped. Also, only a short walk from the center of the city and the Pilsner Urquell brewery. Grocery stores and bakeries were nearby, very convenient to the train station in particular. Our stay was beyond our expectations. Now, the main reason for that -- the amazing welcome from Michael and his family. They made us feel at home, like friends visiting rather than just paying guests. Michael is a very friendly, outgoing person with a real passion for his new home in Plzen, and he shared that passion with us (including introducing us to some great local microbrew) in a way that made Plzen much more than just another stop on our trip. We felt that we have made new friends, and that Plzen is a special new place in our hearts! Thank you again, Michael and Marketta, for a memorable stay!
Michael is a very nice and welcoming host, and 100% recommendable. On our arrival he took enough time to show us the flat and its many conveniences as well as to give us endless information and tips on what to do in Plzen and where to go. The flat itself is very neat and tidy. Everything was so well prepared for us and we didn't miss anything. Also Michael was very open and willing to give us any help if we needed it. Unfortunately,we couldn't spend much more time with him but thank you Michael for being so nice and for giving us an outstanding first Airbnb experience!
Michael made us feel right at home. He made this trip very nice for our entire family. The maps and travel tips were very well thought out and spot on. Our son had a great time over the weekend, we even decided to stay an extra day. The apartment is within walking distance of most everything in Pilsen so no need to drive all the time.
About the Host, Michael
I'm an American married to a wonderful Czech girl, Marketa. We spend our days and nights traveling the world and showing all its wonders to our little girl, Melissa.
My FAVORITE local pub! I had my wedding party there! A little smoky sometimes, but a great looking little place - great beer and a very fine selection of whiskeys to try!Houškova 326 00
The original micro-brew-beer-only bar in Plzen. Five taps always changing, never disappointing. The place is nothing to look at, but to taste....yummmmmmmm. Tell the bar staff I sent you!Nádražní Plzeň Region 301 00
THE Pilsner Urquell Brewery. enough said.U Prazdroje 304 97

Cant comment on the food - and the atmosphere is pure 80s Czechoslovak-bad - BUT they have one of the best new micro-breweries on all four taps, Stara Škola. And non-smoking, too! A big plus...náměstí Tomáše Garrigue Masaryka 30138

The first micro-brewery in Plzen, and still one of the best! The place doesnt get the love it should, but the 14º beer there is one of the best semi-dark lagers you will EVER try!Karlovarská Plzeň Region 323 00
Perhaps my favorite place in Plzen, even though just a bit far away. Always some of the finest micro-brew beer in the country on tap. Home of the best beer-festival in Czech, and great food, too!Selská náves Plzeň Plzeň Region 326 00
