In spite of the arrival in the middle of another New England snow storm, Jeanie was ready for us and most hospitable. Even with the ice and snow, the house was warm and comfortable and the view spectacular.
It must be extremely pleasant in the other three seasons.
Our host Jean was helpful and made us feel at home. The beautiful lake setting was everything we expected and we enjoyed hiking around the waterfalls with beautiful fall foliage.
This was a wonderful stay. Jean was a very pleasant accomodating host. The lake was clean, restful, lovely. The accomodations were roomy and interesting. Orange has a very old New England feel. It was the right combination for our mini vacation.
Jean was a gracious host, who was very flexible and made us feel at home. We rented a room with its own entrance that looks out to the lake. The private bath had a nice warm shower with good water pressure. There was a driveway for easy parking. We took our paddle boards and really enjoyed the lake, which was lined with pine trees. Jeanne provided us with coffee, fresh cut fruit and English Muffins, which was a welcomed treat. We love the idea that the property has many options between renting single rooms, to renting the whole house to renting a room in the cabin next to the main house. It would be a fun place to go with a group of friends or combine a couple of families for a getaway. We will rent from Jean next time we are in the area.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Jean for sharing and opening your home for us to use for our brief 5 night stay! Each morning I forced myself up at 7am just so I could take in the beauty of the lake waking up to the world. The home is exactly as in the pictures, but they don't do it real justice. From the front door, you walk into the main room with cathedral ceiling and a wall of windows from floor to ceiling that looks out on the serenity of the lake. The room is shared with a galley kitchen that has everything you need. Also upstairs is a full bath and a bedroom with one queen bed. Downstairs are two more bedrooms, with one queen in each. The one I stayed in was downstairs, with a door that opens right out onto the yard and lake, sunny and beautiful! There is also a half bath with a shower downstairs and another little sitting area. We rented the entire house which also included a separate cabin located up behind the main house. This cabin has two twin beds and a TV, no bathroom. Jean stayed next door in her apartment that is located over her garage. There is also canoe and a row boat for your use. Me, my husband and two sons, 20 and 18 hadn't been away for any extended time in over 10 years and this couldn't have been more perfect. We brought along our two kayaks to use along with her boats. We explored the lake, which isn't huge, but is certainly big enough. We also traveled over to Tully Lake Campground where we rented a canoe ($15 from 3-7pm on Sundays) and explored all the little islands. However, the majority of time was spent at Jean's house, relaxing, grilling and taking in all the wonderful energy her home and lake and lake has to offer! Our visit was perfectly time, as that Saturday on the lake, was the 25 annual Triathlon and it was the week of a full moon. On one particular night, we rowed out into the middle of the lake to take in the moon and see all the bonfires and fun happening around the shoreline, very magical. The weather during our vacation was the best weather of the summer, mid/high 70's no humidity. But had it rained, we would still have enjoyed hanging out at Jean's Lakefront home.
Jean is such a wonderful lady and we all enjoyed getting to know her and will definitely be back again more than once!
Jean was very patient, responsive, accommodating and helpful. Dealing with her was a pleasure. The house was very nice and clean, the location was perfect, and the lake lovely.
Since its not super clear, I'll give you a sense of the layout. The upstairs has the kitchen, living room (with two couches), bathroom, deck, and one private bedroom with a queen bed. The downstairs has the loveliest private bedroom at the water level with a door that opens and you're 10 steps from the water, truly lovely. Also downstairs is a bathroom, a couch and a third bedroom that has a full bed. This third bedroom isn't quite private since the staircase connecting the upstairs and downstairs is located there and depending on how many people you have in the house people may have to through it to get through, but on non-rainy days you can walk around the outside to avoid going through it.
The couple upstairs and downstairs are not the best for sleeping on but workable. And if someone is on the bottom couch they either have to go through the lakefront bedroom to get out or through the "semi-private" room to take the stairs upstairs.
The cabin is as pictured with two twin beds and nice but is musty, could have been just an especially humid weekend, but a de-humidifier in there would have been very useful.
We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay with Jean again if she'd have us.
I cannot gush enough about Jean's "lakefront getaway"!
Packard Heights is such a lovely location, with winding country roads, tall pine trees providing shade and friendly neighbors, all of whom were graciously welcoming to my family and our big goofy puppy.
We rented the lower half of Jean's adorable cottage, which literally opens up on the shore of Packard Pond. We had a shady patio from which to enjoy the view, but, even better, from our bed, we were able to take in the whole Pond at a glance. So peaceful!
The cottage is adorably furnished, with unique antique wooden furniture and interesting tchochkes, art and books in every room. There were two comfy beds and a futon, too, so we all got great rest.
Our son, nephew and pup spent almost all of their time playing in the Pond, jumping in from a rope swing, and even took a lap in Jean's canoe. While they swam, we greeted the neighbors, who passed by every evening in their boats, waving and saying hello as they went.
I can't say enough about Jean, who provided us with coffee, bagels and fresh fruit on our first morning and who checked in with us just enough to make us feel welcomed and cared for.
We loved everything about our stay, from the hostess to the location to the accommodations to the price to the ability to bring our dog. We will DEFINITELY be back and, next time, we will bring friends!!
