Where you’ll be

Vinsobres, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Vinsobres is a pretty, historic village with a temple dating from the 12th century perched on a hilltop. There are magnificent views of the village from the road up to the Domaine, including of the Mont Ventoux.

The area has a superb climate and amazing scenery. Anthony Peregrine described it in The Daily Telegraph as “the south we’ve always longed for: of hills, mountains and lost valleys, of olives and vines, of lavender, cicadas and warm scented breezes in the late afternoon”.

Nyons itself is famed for its olives and olive oil and has a wonderful market every Thursday morning. The Pays de Nyons ranges from the lovely Romanesque bridge (a classified historical monument in Nyons which celebrated its 600th anniversary in 2009) to the magnificent church Notre Dame de Beauvert (in Ste Jalle), from the old village of Sahune to the temple in Vinsobres and from the old fountain in Mirabel to the splendid “Vallée de l’Ennuyé” in the Baronnies mountains.

The area also has a wealth of outdoor activities, such as walking and climbing and is a mecca for keen cyclists with the mythical Tour de France stage of the Mont Ventoux being right on our doorstep.

For more information about Vinsobres and the Nyons area visit the Nyons tourist office website.
