Interaction with Guests
I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around if you need anything. When my work load allows, I love to spend time with guests and get to know them better, but I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.
There is a superb supermarket 2 minutes walk away that stocks a wide variety of local and specialist produce and has an excellent cheese counter, deli section and off licence. Kendal's bustling high street is one minute's walk away where you'll find plenty of shops, a library, the post office and several banks. There's a Costa on the main high street and Caffe Nero is in the marketplace. It's worth exploring Kendal's historic yards where you'll find many of our more individual retailers and businesses.
The market town of Kendal lies just outside the spectacular Lake District National Park, has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways and restaurants, 2 museums, a leisure centre with swimming pool, golf course, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre with a theatre, cinemas, art galleries, bars and a regular live music programme (visit the breweryarts website). There are plenty of places to explore with lovely parks (Kendal Castle, Serpentine Woods and Noble's Rest) and pleasant walks along the river Kent right on our doorstep. There is a street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a farmer's market once a month.

Caryn was great before we arrived, providing clear instructions on how to get to the house and making sure everything was well organised for our arrival. The description was completely accurate. If anything, it didn't do justice to the unique appeal of their wonderful home. Kendal itself is small and quiet but has everything you would need and is a great base for exploring Cumbria and the Lakes. The apartment is high above the town centre and offers great views from all the windows.
Caryn and Merv are both great hosts and showed us round the place. It's a fantastic little stand-alone apartment with your own entry. Caryn baked us a loaf of lovely bread for our breakfast and the fridge was well stocked up with everything we would need for our two day stay.
Special mention has to go to Caryn's (I assume!!!) eye for decoration as the Colour House really lives up to the name with lovely paintings throughout, colourful touches throughout and so many beautiful decorative objects and beautiful pieces of antique wooden furniture. It was a fantastic place to get ideas! Merv's influence comes in with the varied plants throughout the place which add a homely air.
The bathroom is modern and also newly decorated with a great style. The bedroom was comfortable, and beautifully decorated again.
All-in-all we loved staying here - it was a birthday treat for my girlfriend and it was an unforgettable addition to our first visit to the Lake District.
Great hospitality, very trendy and clean flat. It would be hard to think of any negative about this flat and the host. Really felt like home instantly we walked in. Highly recommended!
ein sehr schönes, geräumiges Apartment mit ruhiger aber dennoch zentraler Lage.
Auf jeden Fall einen Aufenthalt wert.
Ich würde dort auf jeden Fall wieder buchen!
Everything and more was available for my stay. I travelled for work and had a very homely and comfortable stay. Furnishings are of high quality. Great living room (fantastic tv), plush bathroom (big bath) and comfortable bed. Breakfast had plenty of choice, good coffee and tasty homemade bread. A lot of attention to detail which I have not seen until now.
Caryn and Merv where great hosts in providing me with everything I needed and gave lots of valued information on the surrounding areas. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.. (3 nights felt like a holiday rather than a work trip) thank you Caryn and Merv.
Thanks Nick! Really glad you enjoyed your stay. It was good to spend time with you and we were very impressed by your adventures and the ground you covered on my bicycle! Sorry you struggled with the WiFi - we're having fibre broadband installed tomorrow which wasn't available in our area until now so it should be greatly improved if you come to stay in the future. Great to meet you, Caryn & Merv.
We had a warm, friendly welcome to this impressive, eclectic space. The suite was quiet and incredibly relaxing, with everything you could want from a stay away from home. The living area is huge, with so many interesting books, dvds and artefacts that we struggled to get out and explore Kendal. The fridge was stocked well for the day and breakfast, including fresh home-made bread and butter. With Booths just across the way, we were able to stock up on deli treats too. The bathroom was beautifully designed and felt like a luxury hotel. We would definitely love to come back, and left feeling refreshed. We've already recommended to our friends.
Caryn and her son Ollie are just fantastic hosts.
There were three of us and we had a fantastic welcoming experience long before we'd arrived. I arrived on bike so lots of useful tips on locating the property. Shortly into our stay Caryn gave us a fresh loaf of warm bread which we wolfed down in no time.
The Colour House is stunning. The photos were great and staying there is even better. Its close to the heart of Kendal and is quiet and peaceful. I wouldn't think twice about staying there again. Lovely clean bathroom with great shower, comfy duvet's and pillows. Top drawer and we lucked out as Withnail and I was on the telly when we were there.
Well done Caryn and Ollie for making the Colour House such a great place to stay.
A beautifully inspiring place to stay in Kendal. Plenty of space to chill out and a luxurious bathroom to enjoy. An excellent experience all round.
