Tucked into a wooded ridge beside Lost River State Park, Lost River Modern is a mid-century cabin made for slowing down. Walls of glass bring the forest right inside, with three bedrooms, two full baths, a balcony, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace. It feels secluded and peaceful, but still has the comforts you want after a hike or a quiet weekend away from DC.
The space
Lost River Modern is a modern modular cabin tucked into a wooded ridge in scenic Lost River, West Virginia — about two hours west of Washington, DC. Set above a walk-out lower level, the home feels a little like a mid-century treehouse: private, peaceful, and wrapped in forest views.
The main level has a primary bedroom, full bath, and open living space framed by a dramatic wall of glass. Downstairs, you’ll find a second bedroom, full bath, and media room, with a small third bedroom available for kids or extra guests. There is also a wood-fire heated hot tub for you to fill and enjoy.
Designed by the award-winning firm Resolution: 4 Architecture, creators of the original Dwell Home, Lost River Modern was built to make the most of light, space, and its natural setting. The design is spare and intentional, but never cold — a warm, comfortable cabin where the architecture quietly steps back and lets the forest take over.
Guest access
Guests have the place all to themselves and can enter using the key from the lockbox.
Other things to note
CELL SERVICE: There is no cell service at the cabin nor is there cell coverage in about a 7-mile radius from the cabin. There is very fast fiber WiFi, as well as a land line at the cabin.
HOT TUB: You can see the Dutch wood fire heated hot tub in one of the pictures. This is not the kind of hot tub most people in the US are used to. You need to fill it yourself, make and maintain the fire, and it can take a couple of hours to heat up, especially in the winter.
REGARDING PETS: We allow pets on a case-by-case basis with a $75 pet fee per stay to cover deep cleaning. Please do not bring your pets without including them in the reservation, and please contact us in advance for pre-approval so that we can manage the cleaning schedule and avoid potential allergy issues for future guests.
FIREWOOD: There tends to be plenty of firewood. You may want to bring your own starters.
OUTDOOR GRILL: There is a propane grill on the back deck, but you may need to swap out a tank at the gas station just 5 mins away if it's empty.
