Well, we were looking for a quiet place to relax with our little family and that's exactly what we got! The views from the house are gorgeous. I wasn't really looking forward to a vacation in March, but with no leaves on the trees, we had a clear view of the beautiful sunset every night. The home is so unique and we love modern architecture and the abundance of windows! Fresh spring breezes filled the whole place! I think our favorite part was the dutch tub. Chris was fantastic about getting us all set up and ready to use it!! My husband tended to it for about five hours the first evening because the water and air were both freezing, but it was sooooo worth it! For the remaining days, heating it up was very quick because we weren't starting from scratch! Don't give up on it! You'll fall in love! The kids were addicted to the zip line in the woods behind the house. That was their favorite part of the trip. Be sure to hike up to Cranny Crow Overlook which is very close to the house! It was a little difficult with a 4 and 7 year old who got wiped out pretty quickly, but if it had only been my husband and I it would've been a simple adventure! We spent one whole day just playing in the creek that runs through the park. Writing this review, I wish we could go back right now! Be prepared for the steep driveway. We didn't use our 4 wheel drive but it's up there! Super secluded. I don't know much about the local shops, but we brought all our groceries with us which was very helpful! We didn't waste a lot of time driving around. We had absolutely no cell service there. I don't know if anyone would, but be prepared for that. The internet service worked fantastically, so we weren't completely cut off from the outside world. I welcomed the lack of phone calls. Chris was really helpful to answer each and every question we had! We always appreciate a great host! Go there! Enjoy it!!
Our weekend was much cooler than planned (the temperature was 70 on Thursday and 16 by Saturday) so we were not able to explore the nearby trails as much as we had planned but we had plenty to keep us occupied at the "cabin". The house is very nice. The driveway is intense. Our small car took three tries to get up the hill (and we are farm kids who are comfortable on gravel). Do bring your own basics- we had to get creative for coffee filters. Also note that the hot tub (though amazing looking) isn't a "just hop in" experience. We couldn't figure out how to fill it and heat it. The internet is top notch.
We had a great time. Loved the cabin, the grounds and the wood burning stove so much we literally did not leave the property all weekend. It was extremely cozy and relaxing. We were also fortunate to have both a clear starry night and a snowy one!
It has everthing you need for a weekend away. We hope to return when the trees are leafed out- i imagine it's spectacular
Chris was great to work with. The directions he provided etc were clear and well detailed. The kitchen had all we needed to make delish meals. The fireplace provided a nice warmth to the house and paired with wine, was fabulous. Overall, nice place to stay to be in the quiet. Would love to travel up again in another season to celebrate simple living at LRM.
The extensive CD collection and surround sound speakers were a great way to unwind too. We rediscovered artists that we both love to listen to. Ample space for a romantic getaway weekend or for a group retreat.
The views from LRM are breathtaking, you feel like you are nestled in the mountains, away from it all. We traveled for a winter getaway, but were able to spend some time on the Adirondack chairs on the patio and star gaze. (what clarity and beauty!)
The hub's and my wish for a great 2015? Visit LRM in each season!
Thank you Chris!
Great place! You can have music playing through the house all weekend and the view is beautiful. Very relaxing.
We are officially obsessed with lostrivermodern. It's even better in person than it shows on the listing (and it certainly doesn't show poorly on the listing)! The place was very clean, bright, and open. The views off the deck during our fall weekend stay were incredible.
It was the perfect space for a weekend of reading, relaxing, and just escaping the "real world" in general. We loved every second.
We had a perfect weekend without a single complaint.
Thank you so much!
The house was a stunning as described in the airbnb listing. Chris provided all of the important and useful info necessary for us to completely enjoy our time at Lost River Modern. It was a beautiful home, in a spectacular setting-and, like other reviewers-I hesitate to be so positive-Because we want to be able to have access for a return visit!!!!
