Mountain and valley views

Soak up the views during your stay.
We welcome you to our private sanctuary - our delightful Stable cottage on the farm Reedsdell, nestling below the sheer cliffs of the majestic peaks of the Southern Drakensberg - an awe-inspiring landscape with many wildflowers and a variety of birdlife & small wildlife. Enjoy the tranquility of nature or the challenging mountainous terrain. Hiking, biking, 4x4ing, fishing, walking and skiing.
Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).

The space
Reedsdell is a working sheep & cattle farm, located 10km from Lundeans Nek. You are part of the farming homestead but you have Stable Cottage to yourselves. Although you won't be woken up by a rooster at the crack of dawn, farming activities commence at 8am, so you will hear the quad-bike and side-by-side leaving to feed the sheep & cattle, or the tractor will be leaving to work in the lands. You are welcome to join them in the farming activities! There are farm staff that work around the homestead during the day too - your cottage is serviced daily, unless otherwise arranged.

Guest access
You have Stable Cottage to yourselves! The double-storey stone cottage is adjacent to the farmhouse. You have your own verandah & garden too, although the garden is not fenced off. We have friendly dogs, cats & children at the farmhouse.

We have the following provisos for pets on the farm…
* The cottage garden is adjacent to the farmhouse garden and is not fenced off, so the pets have to stay with the owners at all times.
* Do not leave your dog locked in your guest room, or alone on the property, unsupervised
* The pets have to be well socialised with other dogs, cats & children
* We are a working sheep & cattle farm so the pets need to be on a lead when walking with the owners, and can be let off in camps that do not have any livestock in them
* Owners have to bring their own sleeping baskets/beds for their pets – pets are not allowed on the furniture.
* Clean up after your pets, even outside in the garden
* Pets are to be up-to-date with their vaccinations, especially rabies
* An additional cleaning fee may apply if the rules are not adhered to - WELL-TRAINED OWNERS ARE WELCOME

Other things to note
Our gravel roads are 2wd accessible. If you want to travel the Volunteershoek Pass to Tiffindell Ski Resort (currently CLOSED), you do need a 4x4 high clearance vehicle. A 4x4 is recommended if you are travelling the 8 mountain passes in the area.
NOTE: Please be advised to travel carefully and adhere to speed limits on the gravel roads. Some warning signs of sharp curves ahead and blind rises are non-existent so take precautions. Move over to the left of the road when approaching on-coming traffic. If you happen to be stopped by a local farmer and warned of any danger ahead e.g. flooded bridges etc, please heed their advice – they have enough experience to make informed decisions!
ROADWORKS BETWEEN ALIWAL & BARKLY EAST - add 1 hour to your travelling time.
