The vacation home is located in an old stable.

The farm is located in the outskirts of Rotterdam in an old hamlet called "De Kandelaar". Only 30 people live here, and it is the perfect spot in the middle of nature between the (large) cities of Rotterdam, Schiedam and Delft.

The perfect place to combine the city and nature!

Our farm is just 5 km from Schiedam, 8 km from Delft and 12 km from Rotterdam and 30 minutes (by car) from the beach.

The space
The house is suitable for 2 (adult) people. Children up to 2 years old are allowed to come along (free of charge), but no safety measures have been taken for babies. There is a travel bed available (with bedding), but no high chair etc.

Downstairs is the entrance to the house with a modern bathroom and toilet in the hall and then the kitchen with dining area.

On the 1st floor is the large living room with wood-burning stove and adjoining the bedroom with adjustable bed.

Nice to know: The vacation home has air conditioning for heating and cooling. Furthermore, we use a Hybrid (heat pump) shower boiler. It extracts its energy from the ambient temperature whenever possible, and in addition, from April 2023, we will be using solar panels to generate our electricity as environmentally friendly as possible.

Guest access
The guesthouse has its own entrance, bathroom, toilet and kitchen. It is completely separate from our own home.

Nice to know! We have a delicious coffee machine with fresh beans and a milk frother available.

If you want to sit outside, you can use the yard, there are different seats available (see photos). Both dry and in the shade as well as in the sun and a table to eat outside.

Other things to note
As mentioned before, the holiday home is located in one of the old stables. The farm itself also dates back to around 1600 and how well we do our best is an old building, so sometimes means a mouse here and there. Be prepared for that and know that at least we do everything we can to keep them out of the door (as much as possible)!

You should also know that although we are surrounded by nature, our farm is still located in one of the busiest parts of the Netherlands. It is therefore not always completely quiet in our area due to sometimes some sudden traffic, a plane that comes across once a day, highways that are relatively close and you sometimes hear a little and we are on a shipping route so sometimes you will hear a boat passing by! In principle, this is only (especially) during the day because there is no official flight and danger and most further traffic has come to rest in the nights!

It is also the case that we have three workshops in our yard, namely a forge, a carpentry workshop for small furniture and a restoration workshop for old mopeds and motorbikes. They usually work from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5pm. Sometimes they are also present on Saturdays(morning). We also maintain the farm and surrounding land ourselves! This means that you sometimes have to be mowed, drilled or sawn. Of course, we take this into account as much as possible!

There is no parking in the yard, but there is a free parking lot 200 meters south of our yard on the edge of the park where we live. If necessary, you can park across the street on the piece of land in front of the sheep pasture. This is officially not a parking space but may be used as such. It may be that the car sometimes has to be removed if the manager needs to be added.

Beware that the property is smoke and drug free. If necessary, you can smoke outside (cigarettes/cigars), this is only allowed under the hay cap at the green picnic table. Drugs are prohibited throughout the property (and nearby area). Also, E-cigarettes(vaps) are prohibited everywhere (indoor and outdoor).

And last, we have two (little) girls. They will be playing regularly in the yard! Please keep this in mind if you would like to bring your dog. Pets will have to be able to interact well with children and other dogs (we no longer have a dog ourselves, but dogs are regularly visiting) to stay with us.

In short! A lively whole so all together!

Neighborhood highlights

The old farmhouse is located in beautiful piece of nature in the middle of the big cities! There are only 20 houses and recently there is a delicious and cozy brasserie opened just a 5 minute walk.

It is a beautiful area for cycling and/or hiking. Also the old city of Delft is very close or the beautiful and modern center of Rotterdam. Both are easily accessible by bike.

The beach is also relatively close. In 25 minutes you drive to Hoek van Holland beach, or in 40 minutes to the boulevard of Scheveningen. Since the summer of 2023, it is also possible to take the metro from Schiedam to the beach of Hoek van Holland. You can park the bike or car near metro station "Nieuwland (Schiedam)". You get off on the boulevard in Hoek van Holland! For more information, you can visit the website of Ret or 9292ov (website or app on the phone)!

My work: Sales Officer (Marieke) & Mechanical Engineer (Arne)
I spend too much time: Restoration & maintenance & the children
In 2016 we bought the farm from our (in-law) mother Marlies (Co-Host) and we start our AirBnB location. Arne has lived on the farm almost his entire life and Marieke joined them in 2012. We welcomed our daughters in 2017 and 2020! In addition to the holiday home, we work with an employer 4 days a week, renovate and maintain everything ourselves and we like to go on vacation with our camper!
