Far from the tourist traps of Bali and located in a lush garden overlooking the rice fields. Truly a slice of paradise to get away from it all.

We are located in a small village pretty untouched by tourism. Restaurants and shopping can be reached by car/motorbike.

On site we have our small restaurant for all meals.

The space

A peaceful slice of paradise at the foot of Mount Agung.

Kubu Carik: literally translated: A hut in the rice fields.

Nestled in an oasis of green, overlooking the rice fields, Kubu Carik (pronounced Kubu Charik) offers a secluded retreat from the crowds. Everything you will need to escape from it all.

Private bungalows with each its own balcony overlooking the endless rice fields at the foot of the majestic volcano Gunung Agung. Here at Kubu Carik the outdoors meets the indoors with all the open spaces like our dining area adn living area.

Even from our fresh water pool you can enjoy the endless view.

Probably one of Bali's best kept secrets in the East of Bali.

Guest access

Our pool is open to all guests - enjoy the cooling water and the amazing view of the rice fields at the same time.

Interaction with guests

Every guest is treated as a friend with whom we would like to share all we know of Bali.
Kadek will treat you to home cooked Balinese meals or if you prefer he can prepare some amazing hamburgers!

Every one is either included in our daily life here (including impromptu parties) or left to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the East of Bali.

I speak English, Indonesian, German, Dutch and a little bit of French.

Other things to note

Breakfast is included in the room rate and includes fresh home baked bread, home made jams and real butter! If the weather permits I might bake some fresh buttery croissants.

We offer cooking classes where you will learn about the Balinese cuisine and the ingredients. Depending on availability/season you will search our vast garden for vegetables and spices like banana flowers and tumeric etc. Kadek will show you how to mix the spices and prepare a delicious Balinese meal.

There are dogs and cats on the premises. All are house pets and part of the family here. Our dogs provide security - no one can enter our premises without being announced. Our cats are great for pest control. Please note that if you are allergic or fearful of animals to let us know in advance.

Kubu Carik is an ideal paradise. I had such a great time, the place is incredibly beautiful, and the room was super comfortable and spacious. Kadek's food is so delicious, it's worth staying here just for the Meals. :) I loved the infinity pool overlooking rice fields, being able to walk down and through the rice fields for a short hike to tirta Ganga, and seeing how all the local crops and plants are grown. Kadek was super sweet and helpful during my stay. I didn't meet Claudia but she was very kind in always responding to my many questions (since I was traveling alone) on Airbnb before and after my booking. Thank you for such a perfect time in Bali!

Great place to escape from people. Easy to visit Tirta Gangga via the rice paddies or a motorbike ride, or just hang around and enjoy the views of the rice paddies, watch people harvest rice or whatever. Claudia is an engaging host. Kadeck prepared an authentic Balinese feast one evening that was the best I've had in my travels--Claudia just told him, "Make something tasty without meat." It was like watching an episode of Iron Chef--he was totally focused in the kitchen, and then served us several tasty dishes when I thought we'd get one. Great place to stay. The best coffee, too, with a plentiful breakfast.

We really enjoyed our time here and can't wait to go back. Claudia and Karek are excellent hosts. Talk the cooking class with Karek. It was our best day in Bali! Thank you!!

My only regret is not staying here longer...the beauty of this place is surreal. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy places and get a real sense of the local culture, this is the place for you. Claudia and Kadek are very gracious hosts and the food here is amazing. The infinity pool overlooking the rice fields is also quite special! This is truly an off-the-beaten-path gem! It would be a mistake not to book a stay here and I can't wait to come back.

I really enjoyed my stay at Claudia and Kadek's, which is in a lovely and quiet area of Bali. This is a private family villa with two guest bungalows, and you have the best of everything: a beautiful property in a peaceful environment, fabulous views, a nice pool, and a welcoming homey feeling. I had one of my best experiences in Bali doing the cooking class with Kadek, it was such fun shopping at a local market and then learning to make a few different Indonesian dishes, stuffed tofu and peanut sauce in particular, it was so good! I also was very happy to meet these fellow animal lovers and their rescued dogs and cats, especially the puppies. I highly recommend a stay here, and hope to return again and do some of the other tours and activities that Kadek and Claudia offer especially the hike to Lumbung Temple.

Response from Claudia:
We hope to see you again soon Barbara! It was a total pleasure though too short to have you here with us. And especially grateful to have a kindred soul understand my devotion to the animals of Bali.

Claudia and Kadek were wonderful hosts, and they made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their place is absolutely beautiful, with lush greenery, a gorgeous view, and an infinity pool! The rooms were cleaned each morning (which is good especially where bugs are concerned!), and we were provided with a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, and homemade fruit and nut spreads. Kadek is a great cook and can whip you up something delicious for an affordable cost in their little in-home restaurant. One of us unfortunately got sick during the trip, and Claudia was kind and attentive during this time. Overall, I recommend staying here and would stay here again... Nice and quiet place to relax away from all the tourist hustle and bustle of central/southern Bali. Thank you for your hospitality Claudia and Kadek!

The villa had amazing views that we will never forget. It was very relaxing and quiet. The bed was very comfortable, the shower had really good pressure and hot water and the AC worked great.  There are many local walks from the villa, with the Tirta Ganga hike through the rice fields being the best. The homemade jams and spreads at breakfast were spectacular.  Sorry we didn't get to meet Claudia, but Kadak took good care of us.
