Description

The Space

Sweet but cozy room with dormer window looking out onto cherry blossom trees. Full size bed with new mattress, pillows and linens folds into a sofa when not in use. Freshly painted and decorated with original art. Stocked with a library about Palo Alto, the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Bath with two sinks, double shower, and separate toilet area. Room has lots of storage - six very large drawers one small closet and one storage closet.

The house is a charming remodeled Victorian five blocks from downtown Palo Alto University Avenue and a mile from Stanford University. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with an elementary school across the street. Easy street parking and extremely safe area.

I have three other rooms listed in the same house through AirBnB. If you are here for a longer stay or would like a little more room than this sweet but cozy room, please look at:

Downtown Palo Alto with all of its coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, high tech start-ups and venture capital offices is a 10 minute walk away in one direction. Town & Country shopping center with even more gorgeous browsing is 10 minutes walk in the other direction.

For those visiting Stanford University, the free shuttle stops at several nearby locations and we can easily get you oriented. I can also arrange a local bike rental (the preferred method for getting around Stanford given the scarcity of parking on campus.) Stanford main gate is about a 20 minute walk away.

I have two kids, but they never seem to be around anymore as they are chock full of school, sports, and other activities. Jake, our 20 lb ball of cream fluff pretending to be a dog, keeps me company as I work from home in my artist studio. He is a rescue we have determined to be a "mutta-doodle" (we know he is part poodle and hypo-allergenic with hair vs. fur.)

If you are around for a couple of nights, I can arrange laundry access and some kitchen access. I can arrange for guest passes to a local gym and make reservations at the nearby massage spa. Also happy to be hired for airport pick-ups and drop-offs.

Hablo castellano (de Argentina). Je parle Francais aussi.

I have lived in Palo Alto since 1993, am very familiar with the area attractions, and more than happy to make suggestions for how to spend a free hour or half-day. I hope to make your visit as comfortable and fun as possible.

Guest Access

We have three outdoor seating areas surrounded by a colorful native and drought-tolerant garden for the guests to enjoy. Guests are also welcome to lounge in the living room with couches, piano, and friendly dog companion. The porch rockers and a comfy yard swing are other favorite hang-outs.

Very limited kitchen access (for breakfast) unless otherwise arranged.
After breakfast, the kitchen/family room is reserved for family.

Bike rental (with helmet and lock) and laundry services available for an additional charge upon request.

Interaction with Guests

I work from home and am very available to help you plan out your adventures, chose the tastiest dining sites, and otherwise enjoy your visit.

The Neighborhood

Very quiet residential neighborhood with sidewalks and white picket fences and neighbors who know each other. Safe and peaceful.
Parking is free and plentiful on the street right in front of the house. Outside of school hours, there is also a small parking lot across the street. I park my car on the street and neither I nor any guests have ever had issues with security/availability. There is no parking actually on the premises (small lot covered with garden and house).
Easy access to everything you could possibly want: Five blocks from the "happening" center of town University Avenue, eight blocks from the Caltrain station, two supermarkets (Whole Foods and Trader Joes) within 5 min. walk, Stanford an easy 15 min. walk, .... REALLY well situated :-)

Getting Around

We are 8 blocks from the Caltrain station in downtown Palo Alto. There is a major North/South bus route a block away and the Stanford Marguerite shuttle stop is about five minute walk away. I can arrange private car transport from/to the airports (SFO, SJC, OAK) and around town for very reasonable fees.

Other Things to Note

Each room is for ONE guest only. We do not allow children or other additional guests in the room.

We have a 20lb muttadoodle (hypo-allergenic) rescue puppy named Julie who is very affectionate and loves laps. While she may bark at strangers approaching the house, it is usually with her tail wagging up a storm and she is exceedingly friendly to our guests.

House Rules

I run a PG-13 rated household to ensure that my son and all guests are comfortable staying here. This means:

No smoking, vaping, drugs or drinking on the property.
No visitors to your bedroom without my explicit and prior permission. Visitors are welcome to socialize with you in the public guest areas except during quiet hours (see below.)
Drunken guests or visitors are not allowed on the property. If you get drunk during your stay, you will have to find somewhere else to stay until you are sober.

Check-in: Standard is between 4-8pm – please contact me with your travel details so that I know the approximate time to expect you. You are welcome to contact me to see if an earlier check-in time might be available (typically depends on when the prior guest leaves, when I have time to turn the room, and what my daily schedule is like, but I try to accommodate when possible.) If you are going to be arriving after 8pm, please contact me by phone so that I can walk you through self-check-in procedures.

Check-out: Please vacate your room by 10am on the day you are checking out. It is greatly appreciated if you would place all of your trash in the can provided and leave your towel hanging on the door (vs wet on your bed :-). You may arrange with me to leave your packed bags in the living room until later in the day if you are not leaving the area until the evening.

Quiet time is between 9pm-7:00am. Please have your phones on vibrate, use headphones for media and be quiet coming and going during those hours. Be aware of the fact that there are multiple rooms with guests on different sleep cycles and with different work schedules. If you need to make a phone call during these quiet hours, please keep your voice down and/or take the call outside and be respectful of your environment.

Breakfast: You are welcome to make yourself a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate and partake in the fruit and treats my son often bakes and sets out next to the coffee maker on the counter (the young chef's welcomes contributions from those so inclined in his tip jar.) There is a guest fridge and freezer in the back yard where you can store items during your stay – though please put your name and date on them so that I can ensure the contents stay relevant.
