House Rules

I run a PG-13 rated household to ensure that my son and all guests are comfortable staying here. This means:

No smoking, vaping, drugs or drinking on the property.
No visitors to your bedroom without my explicit and prior permission. Visitors are welcome to socialize with you in the public guest areas except during quiet hours (see below.)
Drunken guests or visitors are not allowed on the property. If you get drunk during your stay, you will have to find somewhere else to stay until you are sober.

Check-in: Standard is between 4-8pm – please contact me with your travel details so that I know the approximate time to expect you. You are welcome to contact me to see if an earlier check-in time might be available (typically depends on when the prior guest leaves, when I have time to turn the room, and what my daily schedule is like, but I try to accommodate when possible.) If you are going to be arriving after 8pm, please contact me by phone so that I can walk you through self-check-in procedures.

Check-out: Please vacate your room by 10am on the day you are checking out. It is greatly appreciated if you would place all of your trash in the can provided and leave your towel hanging on the door (vs wet on your bed :-). You may arrange with me to leave your packed bags in the living room until later in the day if you are not leaving the area until the evening.

Quiet time is between 9pm-7:00am. Please have your phones on vibrate, use headphones for media and be quiet coming and going during those hours. Be aware of the fact that there are multiple rooms with guests on different sleep cycles and with different work schedules. If you need to make a phone call during these quiet hours, please keep your voice down and/or take the call outside and be respectful of your environment.

Breakfast: You are welcome to make yourself a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate and partake in the fruit and treats my son often bakes and sets out next to the coffee maker on the counter (the young chef’s welcomes contributions from those so inclined in his tip jar.) There is a guest fridge and freezer in the back yard where you can store items during your stay – though please put your name and date on them so that I can ensure the contents stay relevant.

Accommodations: Closet-sized (and shared bathroom) frequently too busy (in morning before work etc). Bed felt like air mattress in terms of hardness and was hard to get good sleep. No A/C in stifling summer. Elf-sized desk in bedroom wasn't usable due to instability (one leg was off big time).

Response from Carina:
I'm sorry you were uncomfortable - you complained multiple times of feeling ill and I'm sure traveling while sick is not fun. This room is called the Cozy room because it is our smallest and least expensive option. Guests book it for the great bargain it offers in this coveted location. While the air conditioning was running during this latest heat wave, you unfortunately chose to keep your windows open. I hope the rest of your travels go smoother for you.

I stayed at Carina’s home for 10 nights. Carina’s home is lovely and I really enjoyed the view from window every morning when I woke up. And it is accessible to downtown Palo Alto and Stanford University. I highly recommend a stay at the Iris House if you find yourself in Palo Alto and Stanford University!

Perfect distance from university ave and Stanford. The bike borrowing option was the best part. Room was tiny but quaint. Overall definitely recommend.
