The space
You'll approach Hummingbird Haven through a flower-filled country garden. After conveniently accessing your two-room garden suite via keyless entry, step into your private entrance and find yourself in the cheerful studio sun room, where you can work, participate in Zoom meetings, pursue creative projects, play supplied board/card games, work puzzles, read a book from the host's collection, or simply relax and daydream while gazing out the windows at the beautiful gardens and birds.

Ample desk-height countertop accommodates two people's activities and is supported by provided fast Wi-Fi. Discover the plentiful reading materials about the local area that will help you make the most of your time in Mendocino.

Here in the sun room, you can also prepare and eat simple meals using the kitchenette, featuring convection oven, microwave, a French press, tea pot, electric water kettle, and under-counter fridge. Enjoy the host-supplied coffee, multiple flavors of tea, hot chocolate, and a large selected of provided breakfast options, including freshly made granola, multi-grain bread from a superb local bakery, organic yogurt, and vegan and gluten-free offerings. Plenty of extra pillows and blankets, as well as the warmth of an electric fireplace, ensure a comfortable sleep, and you'll enjoy reading in bed using the reading lights on handy bedside tables. Lull yourself to sleep watching a movie on the 27" HDTV Samsung TV with host-provided Netflix.

You are invited to wander around the 3-acre property, pick apples and blackberries in season, and sit on the deck to be mesmerized by the birds, while overlooking a flower-filled cottage garden, and a sweeping, tree-lined meadow. Host often works in the garden in the afternoon and maintains a very low-key presence.

You'll be barely a mile from Big River Beach. Just a 5-minute drive away, you'll find shops, restaurants, galleries, and various seasonal cultural offerings. With its heirloom apple orchard, colorful flower garden, and an old farmhouse on 3 acres, it's a comfortable and welcoming place to call home. For over 20 years, I owned Cafe Beaujolais in this lovely town, which showed me how hospitality and a generosity of spirit can create a deeply meaningful experience for everyone involved. Since 2011, hosting guests has been my way to continue along this path, and I’ve loved it! I speak some French, German and Spanish.
