The Space

BAYGLOW COTTAGE. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer...each season has its own special glow on Tomales Bay, bringing out the beauty of pristine West Marin. The historic towns of Inverness, Point Reyes Station, Olema, Marshall, and Tomales are just some of the wonderful communities to explore during your stay at Bayglow Cottage. Only an hour drive from San Francisco, Napa, or Santa Rosa, Marshall is also a stone's throw from Tomales Bay State Park, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The crowds are few during late fall and winter, and the calm beauty of the bay soothes even the most harried soul, year-round.

  • Everything was easy-peasy from the directions to acquiring the key to checking out. The location is beautiful, and we're already planning on returning again this summer if available. We considered going and spending the day at Hog Island Oyster Co., but decided on just picking up the oysters and clams and returning to our little cottage on the water. The view just can't be beat, the kitchen is well-stocked with everything one could need in terms of pots, pans, knives, etc., and we didn't want to leave. Love it here.

  • Bayglow Cottage was adorable. The pictures don't do it justice--totally cute furnishings and very well maintained. We loved sitting on the dock, too. The kitchen was the best equipped rental I've ever stayed in--tons of knives, plots, and dishes. From other reviews, I had expected the two beds on the top floor to be in one large room, but they were complete separate bedrooms with a wall between them and their own doors you can shut for privacy. I would definitely stay there again in the future.

  • Bayglow cottage was incredible. We couldn't have imagined a more dreamy vacation spot. The cottage itself is cozy and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the bay. It's a perfect location for exploring Tomales Bay and Point Reyes, though I would recommend taking the time to just grab some oysters and a bottle of wine and enjoy dinner right on the deck at sunset. Truly a wonderful experience, my only complaint is that we didn't have more time to spend here.

  • In planning my 40th birthday weekend I knew I wanted to be somewhere close enough for friends to reach in under 2 hours and yet far enough out of the city to feel relaxed and special.
The Bayglow was perfect. It is a quaint cottage with breathtaking views and the sound of the waves coming in with the tide.
For the most part it was everything I had hoped for and everything that was advertised in the listing. Some new furniture seems to recently been added (couch) and the 1/2 bath upstairs seems pretty new as well as the shower downstairs. It was nice to have decent knives and nice plates in the kitchen. Thank you.

The fireplace worked with the thermometer for the first day or so but quit after that so we had to just control the on/off from the fireplace itself. Also the refrigerator was warm and everything was melted when we got there. Seems the breaker was tripped but that was a quick and easy fix.
It is a bit rustic and while to some it seems like a lot of money for a rustic cabin it is one of the lower priced rentals in the area and has exceptional views and unbeatable access to the water if you're a kayaker or like to fish.
My friends all loved the place and many said they might rent it soon as well. Thanks again Don!

  • The Bayglow Cottage is perfectly situated on the Bay--cozy, private and well appointed. My husband and I spent a relaxing two days at the cottage and found it to be a great home-base for exploring the Coast. The kitchen is well-equiped, which was very important to us as we cooked every night. The hot tub was a great addition and the deck and dock overlooking the Bay were just perfect for an outdoor meal with a view.

Donald was the ideal host--very responsive to any inquiries and messages, but not in any way intrusive. We were able to check-in and out without having to arrange a meeting, and the house manual was detailed and helpful. The house is not large, but cozy and very well laid-out. We hope to return in the future!

  • Stayed at Bayglow two chilly nights in early Oct. When we had issues with heater, called Don. He responded immediately and walked us through it. A prior guest had changed the settings which caused the issue. There are simple instructions in the house which work if one doesn't try "their own thing".
The Jersey Girls loved this simple comfortable house on the water. We had stayed on a cliff in Mendocino looking at the Pacific and a house on the mtn in Sonoma. How lucky are we to have had 3 amazing California experiences to celebrate our "75th" bdays.
Look for Bayglow's 1 legged seagull, comfy beds with great views from both upstairs bedrooms, listen to the lapping waves and enjoy everything that's important in life-friends, family and nature!!!
Sequestration closed Pt Reyes but folks in Pt Reyes Station sent us south to gorgeous beaches where we walked and lunched on the beach.
By the way, Californians are very nice people.
    Enjoy. Jacki Virginia Beach, Va

  • I cannot begin to express how wonderful the bayglow cottage was!
Slept 6 people perfectly- and even had room for an air mattress or if you wanted to pitch a tent in various spots outside!
From the dock we enjoyed Tomales and hog island oysters, watched manta rays glide by, and cozied up on the chairs
When it got chilly the stove warmed us right up!
Plenty of kitchen and fridge space for a couple days stay.

I can't wait to book another trip up- hopefully for more than a weekend getaway

  • Good:
-The deck and dock on the water are fantastic. Waking up to the view is breath taking. The view alone makes the house worth of consideration.
-There is wifi (but no cell coverage)
-While there are 3 beds, 2 of them are upstairs in the attic which is just one open room. The beds are comfortable.
    -Good shower pressure

    Not-so-good
-The main heater did not work and the owner never sent anyone out to fix it (he returned our call the following morning, not the night of arrival). This was disappointing but not terrible as the weather was fantastic. If it were cold out, this could have ruined the experience.
    -The shower is really small.

Overall, the house and furnishings were a bit dated but if the heater were made more reliable, we'd probably stay again for a weekend.
