The large front room of a 1898 Victorian flat with all the classic details. The bed is a very comfortable memory foam convertible couch. The bathrooms are shared with us. We have 2 cats and a seasonal garden. Located 2 blocks from Alamo Square Park.
This is a classic San Francisco Victorian full flat. The bedroom has a period mantle piece, original crown molding and medallions and a huge bay window looking out onto Golden Gate Avenue. The bathroom is 20 steps down the hall from your bedroom door. Continental breakfast is served in the formal dining room with period built-ins and non-working fireplace.
Guests will have access to the garden as well as the bathrooms (one full, one 1/2 bath) and laundry room.
Interaction with Guests
We are personable, easy going guys, happy to answer questions and give advice when needed. At the same time we are respectful of our guests privacy and realize they didn't come to SF to see us.
Diversity. That is the reason I have lived with in 2 blocks of Alamo Square Park for 21 of the 24 years I've lived in San Francisco. This neighborhood is a great mix of people of all colors and ages and the offerings reflect that. The Divisadero corridor (Divisadero from Haight to Golden Gate) is a vibrant street full of all kinds of shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. Alamo Square Park itself is a world renowned land mark, beautiful all year round and home of the famous "Painted Ladies" Victorian homes. Yet this area does not have the feel of a "tourist trap" area.
The two closest bus lines (24 Divisadero and 5 Fulton, 2 blocks from our door) will get you to (or with in 1 or 2 blocks of) Union Square, Golden Gate Park, the Castro, Pacific Heights, The Civic Center, The Marina, Upper Filmore St., The De Young and Academy of Sciences museums, BART, the Asian Museum, Market Street, the Cable Car turn around (Powell St.), all the big name stores, etc.

Doug and Richard are warm, easygoing, flexible guys, and their home is quiet, unpretentious, and comfortable. I enjoyed kitchen conversations with Doug about food, culture, and his love for the City. I slept well in the well-furnished guestroom. And I liked the location near Alamo Square, one of the city's less heralded parks, with its stunning skyline view. Grocery stores and numerous restaurants are nearby, but the block is residential and super-quiet. The Haight is a short walk away; the Mission is further but walkable; and bus lines crisscross the neighborhood. Two things to note: (1) if you need closet space, this room might not work for you; and (2) the neighborhood, while central and attractive, is on bus but not streetcar lines. Neither of these caveats would deter me from staying here again.
Doug and Richard are awesome hosts! The room is well furnished, clean, and comfortable. They serve a delicious English-style breakfast in the mornings if you don't have breakfast plans. Their cats are very sweet and well behaved. We were impressed by their attention to detail and would stay here again.
Perfect weekend spot for my parents! I live next door and love the neighborhood so I wanted somewhere close by for my parents to stay. Couldn't have asked for better. Cute Victorian building and nicely furnished room makes it a very homey weekend SF retreat.
Great hosts. Great house. Great cats. It was a perfect experience and I would stay here again for sure.
My friend and I had a wonderful stay with Doug and the accommodations exceeded expectations in every way. The comfortable bed, great breakfast spread and friendly felines underfoot made for a very fun and memorable two-night stay. The location was prime as well and Doug and Richard were so helpful in answering my questions about the city. Highly recommended.
I had the greatest time at Doug and Richard's place. If you are looking for a nice place to stay in SF, don't look anywhere else! THIS is where you should stay!!!!!!! The room was impeccable; super clean cozy and warm with lots of light. The location was amazing too, walking distance to nice places. Doug and Richard were such great hosts, helping me settle down, giving me tips about the neighborhood. The breakfasts were amazing as well, and I have to add that the two lovely cats, Blu and Zora, were VERY friendly as well! Thanks for all the help, Doug and Richard! I really appreciated it! Would definitely visit again! :)

I am a fifty-one year old theatrical production manager. I have lived in San Francisco for the last 24 years, most of that time within 2 blocks of Alamo Square Park. I have worked at one of the city's most famous "attractions/institutions" for 19 years (Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon) where I am Associate Production Manager and Wardrobe Master. My partner, Richard, has lived here since 1998 (and a for a little while in the 80's). He is a hair stylist and colorist. We have been together since 1999. We are both serious foodies and wine enthusiasts and love to explore the culinary offerings of Northern CA. We love to interact with people, but respect boundries. We love music, art, theater, movies and our cats.
