We are a vintage, private residence transformed into an iconic retreat. Generous kitchen encourages group meal prep. Rooms and patios are spacious. Pool is refreshing in the summer. WE DO NOT HAVE Air Conditioning, but cool with evaporative coolers.

The space
Each of the four private suites (two Kings and two Queens) has its own bath. Local regulations (City of 29 Palms) require a 2-night minimum stay.

A Local Transient Occupancy Tax (T.O.T) of 10.5%, will be added to the cost of the reservation. This tax is NOT INCLUDED in our pricing. AirBNB has signed an agreement with the City of 29 Palms to collect this tax when a booking is made. Thanks for your cooperation. We have no control over the collection of fees and taxes.

The home features large rooms with historic ambiance, a large and well-equipped kitchen great for group cooking, saltwater pool (not heated), and stunning views of the mountains of Joshua Tree National Park and the city of 29 Palms. The home does not have a hot tub.

BROADVIEW is situated on a promontory in the old residential part of the city, with 360 degree views of the town of 29 Palms, the residence includes:

- A large sun room with a working fireplace and a baby grand piano and a large evaporative cooler for summer use;

- Media room with a new, large, flat screen ultra HDTV; the main evaporative heating/cooling unit is located in this room

- Extraordinary library with many old and historic and contemporary fiction and non-fiction books.

- A spacious, fully equipped kitchen with a commercial grade, six-burner, two-oven stove, party-sized refrigerator and freezer, and workstations staged for group cooking;

- Historic retro architecture (masonry walls, hand-made Mexican tile roof, quarry tile & polished concrete floors), oriental rugs and furnishings recalling a slower, gentler era. The home is not suitable for small children.

The main entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is about three miles away -- visible from the property across the valley. Park Headquarters and Visitors Center is only a mile and a half away. The Park is great for hiking, biking, climbing, art, photography, and solitude.

Hosts Michael and Ann Congdon live nearby in an historic 29 Palms Adobe; close enough to supply directions, Park info, shopping tips, travel and dining advice; far enough away to guarantee your complete privacy while available to address any problems quickly and discretely.

Two of the key benefits of high desert living we try to preserve at the Hacienda are the pristine night sky and the silence, solitude and serenity of the Mojave Desert. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of both, and not to disturb them with loud or unruly behavior.

A car is necessary for guests; most shopping is not within walking distance. The drive to 29 Palms is approximately 1 hour from Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), two hours from Ontario (ONT), two-and-one-half hours from Los Angeles (LAX), and three hours from San Diego and Las Vegas (LAS).

Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree are respectively 50 and 35 miles northeast of Palms Springs on California Hwy 62. They are the two main entrances to Joshua Tree National Park. Twentynine Palms is the last "service" stop on the way to the Colorado River and to the desert route through the Mojave National Preserve to Las Vegas.

We live in an older neighborhood of the City of Twentynine Palms, on a high point of land with excellent views of the mountains of Joshua Tree National Park and the city lights to the South and East.

Above, the night sky is sublime, and, if your tastes run to astronomy, we have a special connection with the "Sky's the Limit" Observatory and Nature Center, on the border of, and just outside the main entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, where star gazing is generally available with experts and their large telescopes on Saturday nights. Many of our guests have seen their first pass of the International Space Station from our Pool Deck. (Ask for details, the schedule is available on the Internet).

Our city is the principal gateway to Joshua Tree National Park, one of the premier climbing and hiking venues in Southern California and the desert, and is the location of the Park Headquarters. Your hosts have guides and materials to discover this wonderful Park and its annual spring-time array of wild flowers.

During your stay

As your hosts we like to interact with our guests to provide information about Twentynine Palms, and answer questions about your stay and things to do both around town and in the surrounding area. However, during the pandemic, direct contacts are minimized. While we make it a point to be available for any urgent needs, or simply to provide information, answer questions or share ideas, we respect your privacy.

We are also proud of our historic home and cater to people who will treat it and the beautiful surrounding desert with respect. This includes your appreciation of local restrictions on the use of off-road vehicles due to city regulations. Also, according to city permitting rules, we cannot make exceptions to our occupancy restrictions of two persons per room per night plus two in a hide a bed (not including children underfive).

There is a city mandated 10 PM noise curfew that must be accommodated. Loud parties are not consistent with the residential character of the home and the neighborhood, and only the necessary number of cars to accommodate the renting party are permitted on the site (again, city regulations specify one car per bedroom, a total of four cars overnight). In short, Broadview is not a "Party House" and it may not be suitable for those who are in the desert to "let off steam" with heavy drinking.
