A stairway leads up to the Upper Floor of the chalet with open beamed wood ceilings and 2 single beds. The ground floor windows look across the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley with its 72 waterfalls to the North Face of the Eiger and the Jungfrau Massif, the best view of any chalet rental in Murren. The loft is a cozy independent area for children.
Our property manager will welcome you and bring you the kurtaxe form to fill out, entitling you to discounts in some village shops and free use of the indoor swimming pool at the Sports Center in addition to free ice skating in the winter. We will pay the kurtaxe for you!
In the winter, our chalet is convenient to ski slope access and we offer ski lockers for your gear. Murren is a typical Swiss charming village with world renowned skiing and hiking.
We're adjacent to a wildlife preserve, with daily sightings of graceful charming Chamois, so we cannot accommodate dogs or cats.
If you want spacious, quiet, private, cozy and spectacular, this place is for you. It offer you a Peace you've never before experienced, even though restaurants & bars are only 2-3 minutes away!
To access the chalet, you will take the BLM cable car from Lauterbrunnen, via Grutschalp. Turn right when leaving the Murren train station and enter 2nd historic chalet on left side of road. Here are lockers where you can store everything you will not need in Murren....to save you carrying too much luggage up the outdoor stairway of 60 steps. At the chalet, you are rewarded with the best view of the Eiger North Wall & Jungfrau Massif that Murren has to offer! You will have access to a clothes washer/dryer which you share with people in the chalet.
Be sure to use the BLM cable car and train from Lauterbrunnen as this is the closest public transit system to our chalet.
Other Things to Note
There is a 3 night minimum, or a 3 night charge for a stay of less than 3 nights. During Christmas, New Years and February, there is a 7 night minimum, Saturday to Saturday.
We ask that our guests treat our home with the same care they would use in their own home. When you leave, please leave it tidy with clean dishes in the kitchen. And enjoy the spectacular beauty of Murren!
The Chalet Snowbird is a beautiful place to stay. The view from outside the window was one of the best in Murren. Because we went during the off season Nancy and Beat surprised us with an upgrade for a couple days during our stay. They are very nice and answered all of our questions! They also gave us a packet with directions and information on the surrounding area which was very helpful. Both apartments that we stayed in were very neat/clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We would definitely come back!
Awsome experience, offers exactly what it says!
This apartment and location provides exactly what you would expect: great mountain views, isolation (but not too much), closeness to enough "civilization" so that you will have no problem enjoying a comfortable stay, food and restaurans and lots to do. We were very happy and will visit again!
The Bear Studio in Chalet Snowbird is bigger than it looks in the photographs. We were 2 adults and a 2 year old, and it still felt spacious. It is pleasantly appointed, with a very comfortable double bed folding out from the wall on the bottom level and 2 single beds on the top level. Everything you need is there cooking and kitchenwise, and the washing machine and dryer are easily reachable one floor below.
A few comments:
If you bring a small child, be sure that he or she can safely navigate stairs, if you are going to stay in the bear studio. Our little one had no problem, but be aware that there is no way of securing or blocking off the stairs, and if your child is not yet "stair safe" this could be a problem.
Playground / spielplatz
About 500m from the apartment (up a small hill) the sport center offers a swimming pool, cafe etc. But also, outside there is a ice skating rink and a playground. I found this great, so if you are bringing kids about 2-5 years old, know that there are a few things for the little one(s) to do!
The management recommends that you buy your groceries etc. in Lauterbrunne before boarding the cable car to go to Mürren. Which is a good idea. But, there IS a sizable COOP Grocery store in Mürren itself. it seems taht the reason you are advised to buy in Lauterbrunnen is that from the apartment, this is about a 1km walk from where you will be staying. A very pleasant and beautiful walk, but still a ways away. So if you don't mind a bit of walking (and carrying your purchases back with you) you can save yourself the trouble of lugging the supplies for your stay all the way from Lauterbrunnen.
Chalet Snowbird was quite possibly one of the best places we've ever stayed. The apartment was spotless, the view was breathtaking, the amenities thorough. We had everything we needed for a cozy, relaxing holiday. Nancy and Beat were incredibly helpful and accessible. We will definitely be back!
we absolutely adored this chalet! it was so cozy and clean and so nice to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring. murren is the cutest little town and we were so happy we chose it over some of the other towns close by. we definitely recommend staying here and we really hope to go back one day!
a few things that are helpful to know: the wifi was extremely slow, the walls are thin and you can hear noise next door (like a baby crying), the coop (grocery store) closes at 630pm, and the washer takes a couple of hours so don't plan on it being a quick and easy task!
this is our favorite airbnb so far in our month of traveling in europe. we already miss it :(
WE are sorry you heard sounds in the next apartment. We're trying to figure out how to diminish this issue. ALL the apartments happened to be occupied when you were there, and the downloading of hundreds of photos via wifi from iphones in the late afternoon and early evening puts a huge demand on the wifi and slows it down. Regarding the washer, we point out in the welcome packet that these wonderful Swiss machines (which are NOT quick and easy!) do take 2 hours so we encourage people to do their laundry elsewhere. Do you think we should just withdraw the laundry as a feature in our chalets? Thank you for your kind review!
We stayed at the Bear Studio, and I cannot say enough great things about it. Yes, it is a studio, and probably suitable for no more than a family of 4, but it is extremely well laid out and spacious. Absolutely one of the cleanest places I've stayed...including high-end hotels. The view is spectacular and I enjoyed morning coffee while watching the sunrise over the mountain range. Purely magical.
Nancy was wonderful and easy to communicate with. I have nothing but kind words to say about her. I hope to one day come back and stay in such a wonderful, and magical place!
Awesome stay at ChaletSnowbird with Loft! It was a hidden gem in Murren and the view from our room is spectacular. Furnishings are pretty new, well-equipped and beautiful! The 60 steps climb to the chalet from the ground level is a daily exercise but every step is worth the climb. It is a great place for a quiet retreat in Murren/Lauterbrunnen area and I must say that Nancy had been very helpful during our stay. Highly recommended.
What an absolutely amazing place the views are simply gorgeous the studio has everything you need and you kind of have an extra room with the balcony - we spent most evenings sitting outside and admiring the unbelievable views! We had such lovely service from Nancy and Beat and the local host "MC" in Murren was simply adorable. What a place to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary - wow!

My Swiss born (Murren!) Olympic skier husband, Beat, and I live in Salt Lake City where I am a Travel Consultant and he is a Ski Area Planner. We have 2 children. He grew up in Murren's 4* Hotel Eiger. At his parent's death, he inherited 2 superb view building lots on the north edge of the Village of Murren. During 2011 and 2012 he has built two chalets, now available for rent. We are avid skiers/hikers. Our family cherishes the extraordinary scenery and village atmosphere of Murren. We're excited to introduce/share it with other skiers/hikers/seekers of Peace, harmony and clean air! Nancy von Allmen
