The farmhouse, Borgir is located in the North West and is an ideal basecamp for visits to West Iceland.
The house is only 10m from the ocean on Borgir, a land of it's own 2200 hectares.
The space
Borgir – the land and the farm house
The farmhouse Borgir is located only 10m from the ocean on a land of more than 400 hectare of unspoiled nature, surrounded by hills on the west and ocean on east side.
The wildlife is very vivid with seals, sheeps, horses, arctic foxes and various birds all around.
Walking routes are available for your private encounter. Borgir is ideal place for hiking, kayaking, meditating as well as other outdoor activities.
Borgir is also a good base for day trips to the Westfjords.
This is a fabulous place for children and a great place to relax.
Guest access
Borgir were built originally in 1970 but were renovated extensively during 2004-2015. The upper floor of Borgir is 80 square meters with 3 bedrooms (master bedroom w/double bed (200x200cm), bedroom with two 90cmx200cm beds and bedroom with a bunker bed).
There is also a well-equipped kitchen on the floor, bathroom as well as living room.
Downstairs you have a library room which is also one of the bedrooms, a storage room as well as a sauna and a shower area.
The sauna fits well 2-3 people. It is good to take 15-30 minutes intervals in the sauna, then go outdoor and get a good feel of the arctic ocean breeze. For the courageous, a dip in the sea is fully recommended.
There are patios both on the north and the south side of the house and they are all yours.
Other things to note
The hike up to Borgaborgir (the hill that Borgir are named after) is only a short distance but it gives you spectacular view over Húnaflói, Bálkastaðnes and Vatnsnes. It is also great to be there to witness the sunset and sunrise, which at certain periods of the year happen simultaneously.
We also recommend a walk on the beach for bird watching and to see the seals.
The weather in Iceland changes fast! So be prepared for all kinds of weather and expect sun, rain, snow, storm - all within the same hour.
Stores
It takes around 45 minutes to drive to Hvammstangi (68km), 55 minutes to drive to Hólmavík (78km) or 50 minutes to Búðadalur (65km) but these are all small villages where you can shop all necessities for your stay at Borgir.
The closest gazoline station is at Staðarskáli which is 33 km south of Borgir.

You will have 24 hours of constant sun light during most of summer. The horizon changes with each hour displaying colours that you seldomly. Stay up late and see splendor of nature during night when everything calms down - extremely relaxing. And all this sunlight really energizes you senses!
Borgir is ideal for those who want to enjoy the solitude and privacy, Borgir is a former farmhouse and is located on a private property with a breathtaking view over the ocean. It’s perfect place to take day trips from visiting the many interesting natural sites all around. It is also ideal for hiking as there are many easy routes by the sea or in the hills around Borgir.
Borgir are also an ideal place to meditate and relax or to increase your artistic inspiration. Due to Borgir ideal location, it has a magnificent view out to the ocean and towards the mountains across the fjord.
