hob house is two semi-detached houses with 8 bedrooms in total. The hosts stays in one bedroom and there are 7 bedrooms with 9 beds to let. The prices are per room per night not for the entire house. You will definitely enjoy your stay at hob! Karibu
Hob House is situated 15 minutes from the busy Nairobi centre. Hob is nestled in a quiet street with no through traffic, which also makes it very secure. This charming guest house is the perfect place to come to for relaxation after exploring the city’s shops and local parks. Every bedroom is individually designed to European standards, Peter's wife is British and has designed all the rooms in good taste combining her varied backgrounds, plus all rooms have en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen is staffed with cooks who are knowledgeable in European cooking as well as African dishes.
The guests will enjoy a home away from home, with a beautiful landscaped garden for relaxation and meditation. The surrounding area provides safe and quiet walking routes for those who like nature, as well as being only ten minutes drive to Karura Forest where you can hike for 5kms or 10kms. We are also 10 minutes drive from three major shopping centres (The Village Market, Westgate, Sarit Centre).
Nairobi National park is 25 minutes drive away where the guests can enjoy watching the wildlife. There is mini-bus with a driver available to ensure the guests have transport at their convenience which has daily and weekly charges. We also have reliable Taxi drivers to call whenever necessary.
There is a daily laundry service (ironing and washing) with charges.
Hob House is an experience that one can never forget as they travel to this region. Hob in Arabic means love and this is what we hope you will feel when you step inside the house.
Kelly and Peter are a Kenyan/British couple who believe in capacity building for local youth and share 20% of rates charged to train and empower the four staff members working at Hob House.
We look forward to hosting you and bestowing on you our world class hospitality.
Karibu (welcome) Hob!!
Guests can have access to the kitchen and laundry facilities if they wish to do it themselves. However, the well-trained staff are on standby to make sure your stay with is one of its kind and truly memorable.
If you take the self catering division you can rent the entire 4 bedroom home, there will be cleaning services daily.
Interaction with Guests
We interact with guests if we feel they want to know us better or learn more about Afica in general and Kenya specifically. However, we always try our best to provide space for guests' privacy.
We overlook cornfields and hear the cock crow in the mornings, but we are 5 mins from central Nairobi.... Giving us the best of both worlds.
Taxis are available all the time at varying prices, Hob House has managed to secure two very good taxi operators at vastly reduced tariffs.
Other Things to Note
Our staff are trained to look after all our guests with the idea of creating a home away from home, we are not a hotel or a guest house, we are a luxury B&B with all the touches of home.
We also have on hand a trained geriatric carer for this who need to travel with elderly relatives.
No alcohol is served, however we have no problem for guests to bring their own.If the guests would like to have dinner, they should inform the staff in the morning. Laundry is collected for washing every morning and returned the following day. If need to dry clean, it should be indicated to the staff allocated to your room and allow maximum four days. No smoking is allowed in the house.
Peter is easily one of the best hosts that I've ever encountered on airbnb. His home was incredibly well kept and his staff was very warm and welcoming. Peter went out of his way to ensure that we had proper directions, even after we arrived very late in the evening. He was alos available to answer questions and provide recommendations throughout our stay. The actual house was fantastic. There is plenty of room in each bedroom and the amenities are some of the best that I have seen in my travels. In addition to a great welcome and a very clean and well-decorated home, the Hob House also provides the option of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed a very flavorful breakfast each morning consisting of fresh eggs, bacon, sausage, and local fruits (the best mango you’ll ever have). We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner of chicken, rice, and salad—all crafted with local and fresh ingredients. All said, my group of six travelers together agreed that we would definitely stay at the Hob House again. Highly recommend!
Peter & Kelly are the epitome of hospitable hosts! Lovely house, warm staff, super clean & delicious food. They really know how to make you feel at home! Hob house is in a quite residential neighborhood, making it perfect for relaxing but not too far from the tourist attractions. The staff, Ruth & Salome, are so friendly and accommodating. Wish I could have stayed longer!
Peter and Kelly were incredibly welcoming and wonderful hosts. Ruth, Jane and Lucy made wonderful breakfasts, and helped ensure we were well looked after.
Hob house is beautiful and was very comfortable. They've apparently recently moved, and the last stretch to the house is on an unfinished, bumpy road, but that added to the charm. The Kitisuru suburb is a bit removed from Nairobi, but at the same time, seems very safe and has lots of expat amenities.
Would definitely stay there again!
Please note as you read my review that I was only in town for one night/day.
Peter has moved to a new house in/around Westlands, the house is equally as beautiful as the original pictures shown. Peter set up airport pickup (for our 6am flight) and greeted us (me and three friends) upon arrival at the house. We were trying to make the most of our one day in Nairobi so Peter prearranged an 11AM Safari in Nairobi National Park with a local tour company. Upon arrival we napped and were greeted with a full breakfast complete with homemade rhubarb tarts. The staff on hand were extremely accommodating (for minimal charges) and left nothing to chance. The rooms all offered en suite bathrooms and all the amenities necessary to feel at home. The house has plenty of space to set up a meal inside or outside for those who want to enjoy the beautiful Nairobi weather.
The house is located off of two unpaved roads with no street lights so at night you will need to secure a driver that knows the area as it can be a bit difficult to get in and out without someone who knows the area. Peter has drivers that he uses so that will not likely be a problem for most visitors.
Both Peter and his wife are well traveled and engaging, both spent time with our group when we were in the house, this aspect made you feel like you were visiting old friends as opposed to a hotel/B&B feel. At no point were they intrusive or overbearing, simply interested in getting to know us better and sharing their own experiences.
I would recommend this location to any friends visiting Nairobi.
And another lovely stay at Peter's Hob House (The new one. They moved since our last stay...)
The new house is as lovely as the old one and I am sure that no one will ever regret their stay with Peter and his wife.
The house is full of love and helpfully people.
The cook is just amazing. In 3 weeks in Africa I have never eaten better food somewhere else.
The accommodation is still very good and high quality.
The house is very safe with his own safeguards and 2 dogs that will be only released during the night. You do not have to be afraid. During the day they are looked up and if you do not want to see them you will never met them. But I bet you want to because these 2 dogs are just amazing. Miss them!
Will return back to these people for sure if I will ever be in Nairobi again.
Many thanks Kim for your sweet compliment regarding your stay at hob house, we truly enjoyed your company and warmth. Wishing you the best in your travels to Southern Africa, looking forward to welcome you again in the future. Thanks again for liking our two lovely dogs (Abby and Kobe)... :-)
Just wonderfull. Just at the time we arrived we felt in love with this house and their owners.
Peter and his wife are just lovely and friendly as it is really rare nowadays.
We directly felt welcome and everything.
The accomodation and food was brilliant.
There is nothing you will miss or complain about.
Looking forward to the next stay.
How does one describe the perfect 'homecoming'? The entire household at the doorstep enveloping us (five adults and three children) in the warmest welcome one could ever hope for, anywhere. During the next couple of weeks, Peter, Kelly, Edith and everyone else connected to Hob House went out of their way, many times beyond anything any of us had ever experienced before,to ensure our utmost comfort, satisfaction and care. In between various other excursions, mini safaris and visits with friends, The Aburis were extremely engaging hosts and we had interesting, fascinating wide-ranging conversations informed by the depth and breadth of their personal and professional backgrounds, together with their wish for their lovely Hob House to be a haven of peace and joy in a bustling, rapidly growing Nairobi. If it is up to any one of us, we will be back to Hob House sometime in the future. We all give our highest recommendation. Asanteni sana!
