Digital detox in our charming 100-year-old farmhouse on 21 acres, 10 minutes from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, near Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier & White Pass. Four+ bedrooms, bath/shower, full kitchen, fire pit, trails & indoor/outdoor games.

The space
Our city kids loved spending their weekends here while growing up. Made from first-growth timber from the turn of the century, the house is walled in restored vintage fir bead board, has built-in cabinetry and architectural details made from poplar. Warm and inviting, you will be charmed by the architectural details and antique furnishings.

The four bedrooms will sleep 8 people. In a pinch, the living room sleeper sofa can accommodate another 1-2, and a tiny room upstairs with a day bed that can sleep one. There is a covered shed where additional people can camp out in sleeping bags during the summer. There is a vintage 1940 two-hole outhouse. Take a broom to remove the cobwebs! It's fun to pee outside!

If you have a city dog, he or she will LOVE Randle. There are more than 20 acres where your pet can run free, without concern for cars. Please let us know if you plan to have your pet join you. We usually suggesting bringing bedding or a crate for your pet.

This is a country house that our family has used for two decades. You are experiencing it the same way we do. Please treat it with care :)

Guest access
Guess will NOT have access to wi-fi, cable, broadband, or satellite dish. Guests WILL have access to solitude, starry skies, wilderness and peacefulness. (NOTE: There is Verizon cell-phone coverage; anecdotally we've been told Sprint and T-Mobile work spottily, but no AT&T past Morton.)

The attic and basement are OUT OF BOUNDS.

Other things to note
There is a lot of firewood on the property. If there isn't a stack already cut in the woodshed, it's easy to forage for wood along the paths. In consideration of the next guest, if you deplete the firewood supply, please pick up a bundle or two from the local grocery store, Fischer's Market.

If you encounter "cluster flies," or a hatch of ladybugs, they do not bite and are not attracted to garbage. Their presence is a good indication of an earthwork supply not far away. To remove them, the best thing to use is the vacuum. We find it helpful to usually do this once during the course of staying for a weekend.

This is a country house, and it is occasionally "visited" by field mice. They are adorable, but in order to discourage them, we suggest our guests leave food in the refrigerator or in sealable containers.

Location

Randle, Washington, United States

Randle is a small town overlooking the Big Bottom Valley. The nearby Gifford Pinchot forest is a fecund environment where mushroom hunters find chanterelles and matsutake in the fall. During the winter, White Pass is a 40 minute drive to some great skiing and snowboarding. Nearby Cispus Center, Ape Caves and lakes for fishing and boating are an easy drive. At night the skies are studded with stars, and it's a great place to view the Perseid meteor showers in August.

There is wildlife in the area. Coyotes can be heard in the distance. Elk walk through the property to the valley below. Deer graze in the meadows around the house. Black bears occasionally visit the area to forage. Bats feed on insects at dusk. Eagles and hawks can be seen hunting in the sky.
