Our farmhouse was built in 1900, and sits on five acres. It retains a century-old character, but has been renovated into a loft overlooking pasture land and the mountains beyond.

The space
The 1st floor of the house has a dining & living , kitchen, bathroom, laundry area & bedroom. The dining & living area features a a large window overlooking the countryside, a big chandelier made out of a repurposed bottle-drying rack, an expandable table and 6 chairs, and woodburning stove. The dining area opens to a deck with a fire pit, charcoal grill, & loungers. The kitchen is fully stocked with full-sized range, fridge, pots, pans, and all other cooking equipment and utensil essentials. The kitchen opens to a screened-in porch, with table and chairs. The bathroom has an old clawfoot tub with a shower, and the bedroom has a queen-sized cast iron bed. The second floor has a living area loft that overlooks the dining room & has a sofa and television. There is also a 2nd bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed with antique wood bed frame.

Guest access
You have access to the entire house and the 5 acres on which it sits.

Other things to note
The house is heated primarily by a woodburning stove, which means when it's cold you will need to build and maintain a fire for warmth. Once the fire is going, it isn't difficult to keep the house at a comfortable temperature, but we have ample space heaters for the rooms, too.

Neighborhood highlights

The setting is rural. The house sits a ways back from the road, with the nearest neighbor at the top of the drive, perhaps 75 or so yards away. You almost certainly will hear her chickens in the morning, and may see cattle grazing in the adjacent pasture. Lost River State Park, which offers hiking trails, horseback riding, picnic tables, and an outdoor swimming pool, is about a 5-minute drive from the house.

My husband and I bought this farmhouse in 2010, as an escape from the hustle and bustle of our lives in DC. We love the beauty, quietness, and serenity of its setting. We want to make our home available to others who will enjoy and respect the home.
