Escape the crowds for a safe and relaxing holiday in the heart of rural Devonshire. I am on the doorstep to northern Dartmoor, a haven for nature-lovers. This charming 200-year-old converted Corn Mill in idyllic setting in West Devon is tastefully furnished and offers beautiful views over miles of pastureland. The guest bedroom has a double bed, fitted wardrobe, with own full bathroom upstairs (exclusively for use of guests). Continental breakfast included. WiFi available throughout the house.

The space
This beautifully crafted landmark is a Grade II listed property, consisting of 6 strikingly and sensitively converted private dwellings. Formerly a grain and corn mill, this property dates back to 1814. My house consists of three floors, which extends into the main four-storey part of the former mill, with fantastic views across miles of open rolling countryside, along with uniquely preserved features of the old corn mill throughout the house. It has three bedrooms, though only one is currently available for rent. A large living room, separate breakfast nook, compact kitchen, cloakroom, and a large bathroom, with separate shower and bath are available to guests. The house has full amenities, including TV + Netflix, unlimited superfast broadband, central heating + gas fireplace in the living room, etc. The kitchen consists of a dishwasher, fridge, freezer, gas hob, electric oven, coffee machine, and an excellent range of quality cookware, kitchen utensils, etc. I’m happy to provide a same day wash, dry and fold laundry service to guests at £8 per load. A separate secluded garden is available for guests to enjoy.

Guest access
The only access to the guest room at Meadow View is via the main entrance. I offer self check-in with a key lockbox, if I’m not available. Please note, the property is not suitable for people with mobility issues, due to the amount of stairs. I have two secure parking bays for visitors.

Other things to note
Places of Interest
The house is a short distance from North Tawton and approximately 6 miles away from Okehampton, and 28 miles from Exeter. It offers close access to the northern and central parts of Dartmoor and other scenic attractions, with historic towns and villages like Belstone, Chagford, Lydford, Moretonhampstead, Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Lustleigh, Postbridge, Tavistock, etc. My place is equidistant (approximately 1 hrs drive) between the north and south Devon coast and popular seaside towns like Clovelly, Saunton Sands, Croyde, Woolacombe Beach, Ilfracombe, etc in the north, and Exmouth, Sidmouth, Teignmouth, Paignton and Brixham in the south. Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Slapton Sands and Dartmouth are a little further away, but definitely worth a visit. I’m only 25 minutes drive from the ever popular RHS Rosemoor.

Enhanced Cleaning Guidelines
I follow the enhanced cleaning and sanitising ECDC protocol. The entire house is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised after the departure of guests, and again before the arrival of new ones. All high touched surfaces like doorknobs, handles, railings, sinks, kitchen and bathroom taps, toilets, etc. will be cleaned and sanitised before and during your stay. The top floor bathroom is exclusively for the use of guests and will be cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis during your stay. All bedding/household linen and towels are washed on a 3 hour cycle at 60°C to prevent any germs spreading. Floors and carpets are cleaned on a regular basis, hence the reason guests are requested to kindly remove their shoes at the entrance.

My house is in a small rural community, within West Devon. It is near to the village of North Tawton and Okehampton. I am within close proximity to Northern and Central Dartmoor and historic towns such as Chagford, Widecombe-in-the-Moor and Lustleigh. The property is situated on the Taw River and near to the well-known Tarka Hiking Trail. I am equidistant from the north and south Devon coast. The well known local farmers pub, the Railway Inn, is situated nearby offering a good range of traditional pub food. There’s an abundance of good pubs and restaurants in the Chagford area (please look at my Guidebook for further information).

Popular National Trust properties in the vicinity are Finch Foundry, Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge, Lydford Gorge, Killerton, Knightshayes Court, etc. I am situated near Dartmoor and popular cycling and walking trails like The West Country Way, The Devon Coast to Coast, Dartmoor Way, Tarka Trail, Pegasus Trail, the Ruby Way and the Granite Way. I do cater for cyclists as I have a secure lockable garage available for overnight storage of bicycles and other valuable equipment.

I’m a keen outdoor enthusiast and have completed the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) in Spain last year. I’ve done most of the long distance hiking trails in Southern Africa and I’ve climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. I’ve also done hikes in France, Greece, Switzerland, Portugal and the UK. Last year I was privileged to participate in an elephant conservation project in Damaraland in Namibia. I enjoy a wide range of interests such as nature/wildlife photography, birdwatching, reading, music, travel, theatre, etc. I love meeting people and sharing experiences.
