Our lovingly built, spacious, Eco straw-bale barn style house, set on our community hobby farm, is a short bush walk away from the village of Hoenderloo, the gateway to National Park De Hoge Veluwe. The 'Strohuis' is made from natural and recycled materials and has a large tile heater - we love the basic, natural and robust setting and hope you do too! We strongly support a sustainable lifestyle and welcome people from all walks of life.

The space
The straw-bale house was build with the help of hundreds of volunteers and is used as community space for local activities and accommodation for visitors . This is a truly unique experience to stay with a third generation local family.

The 'Strohuis;' stands next to the large farm house and offers basic accommodation for up to ten people. Some call it quirky, others may find it rustic. Upstairs, the open loft space and a large bedroom offer ample space to chose a setting that suits your needs best. Downstairs you find another bedroom with two single beds.

Our indoor kitchen is a work of art with most elements handmade with recycled materials! The kitchen is equipped with pots and pans and utensils, a coffee machine and a kettle, an induction cooking plate, an oven and a dish washing machine. Second cooking facilities are set up in an outdoor kitchen (under cover on the veranda) with a large gas barbecue. We charge 5 euros for using the barbecue, and 10 euros bond but you get this back if the barbecue is left clean.

Where you’ll be

Hoenderloo, Gelderland, Netherlands

Walking distance to the famous National Park De Hoge Veluwe where art and nature meet in quite a unique way. Our farm is just outside the village (10 minute walk) at the end of a quiet dead end street with only a few other houses. Hoenderloo is surrounded by forest. Burgers' Zoo and the Apenheul Apeldoorn are less than 20 minutes driving away.
