Located on the west coast of Siquijor Island Keady Cottage is 30m from the ocean and sits in a lush tropical garden. The cottage is constructed of beautiful local wood-(Acacia) with an outdoor shower and deck overlooking the overgrown and lush garden. Keady is ideal to relax and regenerate. The ocean 30m away is a garden of live corals; at low tide a rocky platform is exposed where locals search for shellfish in the traditional way. There are no hawkers or children trying to sell you trinkets!

The space
Keady is a native design and constructed out of local wood and Nipa products throughout. It is positioned facing west to afford the best opportunity for shade by reducing direct sunlight. However the bedroom area is very light as the sliding door from the western facing deck lets in ample light and also allows the breeze from the ocean to flow into the room. The hot/cold shower area is straight out of a designer handbook (well Pinterest actually!) complete with a living banana tree or two for shade! Due to the shower being outside it may give the appearance of not being cleaned but it is! leaves from the passion fruit bushes and banana plants shed leaves all the time! If you want it 'freshened' up please ask!

A colourful bamboo archway path leads directly to the ocean from the accommodation

Bed linen, towels and soaps are provided. Sheets are changed every 3 days. The cottage is tidied everyday but not cleaned every day, only every 3rd day. If you require a towel change before 3 days there will be a 50 pesos charge per towel. Pls place the towel on the floor in the shower and inform us on Airbnb of your request.
If something is not to your liking please inform the manager at Baha Bar. We can arrange for washing of clothes and babysitting if required.

For both of these services there is a cost of 100 pesos per kilo for clothes washing and 100 pesos per hour for babysitting.

Babysitting must be arranged ahead of time pls!

Warning - At low tide the foreshore is rocky and you may feel it is not ideal for young children, however you may also consider it fascinating for them! A fully sandy beach is just 100m away along the shoreline

Transport - we have our own minibus and can provide transport to and from the ferries provided you give us at 12 hours notice (we can accept requests in a shorter time frame but cannot guarantee we will pick up the message!).
Cost - 700 pesos each way from Siquijor and 1000 pesos from Larena port.

Where you’ll be

Although Keady is not on the ocean, the cottage is very close (150m) to what locals refer to as 'ghost island’. The locals believe that once you die your soul is transported to this island before you go to the next life! The water is crystal clear and although the beach area is narrow it is generally very clean and free of garbage.

The main features outside the lush gardens are the clarity of the water on your doorstep and the unimpeded views at sunset to Apo Island and amazing stars almost every night. The corals are 20m offshore and are all healthy and living, unfortunately the local fisherman over fish them but nevertheless you will still see many small fish and other macro fauna. It is within relatively easy reach of other restaurants and bars on the island (need own motorbike or take tricycle).

The beach is clean and is kept clean by one of the staff from Baha Bar. The width of the beach is only 15m to the sea but it stretches for over 1.5km to San Juan town. It is not a classic white ‘Boracay-like' beach but in my opinion because it is not all sand there is much more to see than a fauna-less sand-only beach; but I understand that is not everyone’s view! At low tide there is a rocky platform which stretches for 50m offshore and is a haven for sea urchins and starfish etc. Only 100m offshore are over 600 healthy coral species with associated fish and only 150m from the Maite marine sanctuary.

The Baha Bar restaurant and bar is only 30m away and is open 8.30-11pm every day and has great food ranging from Filipino favourites to western style cuisine.

We live in Siquijor, I (Gen) am there most of the time but Steve travels between Vancouver (for work) and Siquijor. I am a local Visayan Filipina born in eastern Mindanao. We have lived in Siquijor for ~7 years, originally drawn to Siquijor by the island's beauty, variety of outdoor activities and the wonderful hardworking, family oriented local people. The island has changed dramatically in the last 7 years and is certainly not so quiet as it used to be!. Siquijor is a lifestyle island. I am a keen runner, rollerblader and horticulturist / gardener and Steve is a long distance ocean swimmer (swam to Apo Island in 2017...24km!) and mountain biker and plays on his boat (doing what I don’t know). When we have spare time we paddle board or spend time with our children at one of the more secluded ‘local’ beaches on Siquijor or go to Senilog Island (ask me!). We also travel a couple of times a year to other Asian and worldwide destinations. Steve is an exploration geologist who has travelled ‘just a bit’ and he said to me that Siquijor is a place that ticked many boxes in his ‘ideal island’ category. Siquijor is not too disconnected from the outside world but far enough way!. It is quite different from my hectic home town of Surigao in Mindanao island. Siquijor by contrast is largely a very peaceful, respectful and some consider conservative / traditional island. I was brought up in a mining town near Surigao, the daughter of a fisherman and a amateur horticulturalist mother. My mum and extended family have now moved to Siquijor from Mindanao and we all work hard to make the Airbnb properties comfortable for our guests. I have travelled to most Asian counties, Canada (love skiing now!), Europe and South Africa! Each house listed is owned by a Canadian colleague / friend or is our own and each is set up to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the views or is nestled among the lush variety of plants that grow in this climate. We live close to Baha Ba’r (one of our restaurants) and you can find us at either Baha Ba’r or Republika, one of our vegetable gardens or the Fazenda delicatessen opposite. We don’t tend to interact with guests (so please don’t take it personally!) unless we see you at a Baha Ba’r or Republika preferring to give you space, but should you have any concerns or issues pls don't hesitate to drop by Baha Ba’r or Republika and ask for us. If you require immediate attention please ask for assistance from the staff at either the Baha Bar restaurant or Republika bar. The staff there will only be too happy to assist you.
