The Space

Villa Cilinaya is located on the Northen end of Ubud, the most famous artist village in Bali. Ubud is nearby the ancient Ubud Market and Tagalalang Rice Terraces. We offer unique accommodations in the valley; a very comfortable, serene environment. We have hot and cold water, a touch of unique art and design, free wi-fi, and a terrace with a view of the rice fields.

Ubud offers a range of outdoor activities. Its rivers, valleys, rice fields and hills provide a stimulating landscape for the adventurous tourist. Tour operators offer rafting, cycling, trekking, bird watching, elephant rides, kayaking, and many other activities. Rafting provides an especially excellent opportunity to check out the natural scenery and wildlife of Ubud.

Ubud tourism focuses on culture, yoga, and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, the Ubud area has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures and less congestion.

Ubud is an ideal place to walk around, especially if you check out the small streets and alleys on the side of every road. They lead you to amazing places such as rice fields, river valleys, temples and Balinese living court yards.

We can provide airport transportation, as well as motorbikes or a driver while you stay here.

  • Excellent accommodation! the room was as it appears in the pictures, spacious, clean, comfortable and elegant. All staff working in the villa make very pleasant stay and care for all possible needs
The villa is a 10 minute walk from the entrance of Ubud and 20 minuts far from Ubud Palace. A highly recommended option!
Thank you very much everyone for the great vacation

  • We enjoyed our stay in Ubud at Villa Cilinaya a lot. You have a lot of space, a private terrace with a small kitchen (outside) and a nice bathroom. The hotel is located a bit outside of Ubud, but still in wlaking distance to the centre (about 2km).
Important to know: Villa Cilinaya is in fact a small hotel (or guest house with bed and breakfast). During our stay, a new pool was build.
All in all, the room was very clean and the staff very friendly. Also Made tries his best, he is very communicative. E.g. we had to leave very early in the morning, before normal breaktfast time. But Made and his wife arranged everything for us.

  • Hi,
This was my first trip to Ubud, Bali and I decided to stay at Villa Cilinaya from the positive reviews on airbnb and pics which gave me the feeling this place was new. Accordingly I had lots of queries about the place, activities and pick up from the airport for which Made's response had been immediate and helpful. The place and rooms look exactly as you see in the pics. The rooms on the 2nd floor is great and had an amazing view. The staff are brilliant and very enthusiastic about any service required. They had arranged the a day trip for us with the driver and also the cycling trip with Bali Eco which was amazing. The only downside was that the trip was short since I'd planned to be in Bali for only 3 days. Next time it'll definitely be at least a week

  • A lovely place tucked just a short walk away from the streets of Ubud and a short drive away from the Tegallalang Rice Terraces. The main street just outside has lots of traditional craft shops. Made & his wife weren't around in the day when we checked in but the receptionists were very welcoming and treated us to a refreshing glass of apple juice. Check-in was smooth & took about 10mins.

The whole place is almost like a mini hotel. Rooms were impeccable, with a large bathroom, mini vanity area and comfortable bed. Everything is very clean and in working order. Basic amenities such as soap (no shampoo), dental kit, body lotion were provided and replenished daily. The housekeeping is excellent and they even help to pack your things neatly. They also come by each night to place mosquito coils outside the room.

We booked 3 out of the 4 villas - 2 at the bottom level and 1 on the second level. There's a small sitting area and mini kitchen just outside the rooms. The view from the second level is pretty scenic. We were able to use the small but very pretty pool of the private 2-level villa to our right as it wasn't booked at that time.

We packed some food from Gianyar street market one night and sought Made's assistance to see if he had a microwave so that we could heat up the food. He didn't have one, but personally showed us around the mini-kitchen outside the villa. Pretty well-stocked for a simple meal, with a pan, plates, utensils, dish soap etc. It turned out to be one of the best meals we had :)

Made and his wife are lovely hosts. We didn't get to interact much with them as we were only there for 2 nights, but Made is a wealth of information and a very learned man. They have 2 very friendly and lovely dogs as well, one of which roamed to our side one morning. But it's well-trained and didn't come near the villas until we went up to it to pat it.

Just 2 things to note: 1) The bathroom has glass doors with no curtains (the shower area inside has a short shower curtain), so just to take note if you are a non-couple sharing the room. It pretty much means if one needs the bathroom, the other may have to wait outside the villa. 2) On the first morning they served our breakfast later than we had requested for. I'm not sure if it was a miscommunication on our part or because they brought the breakfast back when they didn't see us and thought we were still sleeping, which is thoughtful of them. Not a big deal, but if you need breakfast served at an exact time, just be sure to let them know specifically.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay for all of us and we'd be back if we're ever in Ubud again :)

  • Villa Cilinaya went above and beyond my expectations in every possible way. This is a place where the photos are true to the actual real life; the room and balcony space were impeccable! Each day I would arrive back to the exact same standard that I got on the first day. The balcony view is just sublime. The gardens beautiful also.

I was travelling solo for the first time to Bali and felt really safe and welcome from the moment I met the driver at the airport (arranged by Made) till the day I left. This driver was also a great tour guide for a day during my stay, and also took me back down to Sanur. The whole experience at the villa was almost like a homestay! Made even helped me to choose a traditional Balinese performance to see and then drove me to it.

The breakfasts were just superb, thank you Trisna!! I went to Ubud to focus on yoga classes at the Yogabarn, it was only a 5 min scooter ride there (Made even got on his scooter one morning and showed me the best way to get there!). All up, staying here made my Ubud time so pleasant that there is no doubt that I will return next visit. Matu Suksama!!!

  • 5 STAR accommodation and service! Seriously, Villa Cilinaya Cempaka was the best place I stayed in Bali - my hosts Made and wife have created a 5 star boutique hotel without the price tag.

The Villa is brand new and immaculate - comfy large bed, big bathroom, ample space for clothes, free (very fast) wifi, access to a new kitchen, mini bar (really good prices), cable TV, DVD player, comfy couch on deck to read while overlooking the rice fields/ jungle. The breakfast was huge and cooked fresh every morning (also, the time you want breakfast is decided by you which was great when you want to sleep in!).

When I stayed, unexpectedly the larger Villa with the pool was vacant and Made generously invited me to use the pool. I would definitely come back and rent that Villa out!

Made, a very intelligent and hard working Ubud local, made my trip very easy - organising transport, day trips, advice on local attractions and was so willing to drop me off / pick me from various locations. He even picked me up one night from a Moziac restaurant when Moziac called him instead of a taxi - he is so lovely.

It is a great location - very quiet and away from the chaos (and noise) of Ubud central (I am not sure why you would stay there - unless you really like the monkeys?). It only took 20 mins to walk into central and you pass Yoga Barn, Jazz Cafe, supermarket, various banks (inc. CBA) and the best quality Balinese home wares stores (make sure you walk to the left of the Villa away from Ubud central too - great art stores!). Alternatively, catch a taxi or a scooter. The most I paid for a taxi was 40,000 and 20,000 for a scooter ride (and I never bargained). One thing in Ubud and Bali more generally, everyone becomes a taxi - very useful when tired doing the rice field walks! Made also has scooters to rent (very cheaply).

All of the Villa's staff were very lovely - helping with bags and the place was sooooo clean. I can't actually fault the Villa at all. I have nothing bad to say.

If you really want to relax in Ubud (which is most people's intention) definitely stay here! I will definitely be back. Thank you Made and your beautiful wife.
