Bay Breezes is a laid back, quiet and cool place to relax and enjoy the "go slow" feel of the island. Located 10 minutes bike ride through our friendly neighborhood, it has kitchen, bedroom and bath, rooftop access, BBQ pit and beautiful fenced yard.
Bay Breezes Apartments is located in a new, quiet neighborhood on Caye Caulker.
It sits just two open properties away from the West Bay of Caulker, an ideal spot to catch all the clean bay breezes. The yard is enclosed to allow for privacy and security. It has a palapa, a barbeque pit, open areas for lounging, and trees for shade.
Apartments have balconies and come with bikes for easy transportation to and from the main village. The nearest grocery store is four minutes away by bike, and the main village is ten minutes away. The nearest beach, East Beach, is less than 10 minutes away, and the West beach is within site or a minute walk.
Each unit has a kitchen with a sink, cupboards, stovetop, a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, pots, pan etc., sofa set and dining table.
Each apartment has a private bath, towels, and hot/cold water. Bedrooms have a queen bed, closet, and nightstand with reading lamps and cable T.V. Rooms have ceiling fans, and the windows are screened.
There is a common upper deck with chairs and tables. It is an ideal spot to see the sunset or enjoy quiet coffee in the morning.
Smoking is allowed outside.
I arrived on Caye Caulker March 1 st and stayd for the month at Bay Breezes #3 hosted by Hilda. The apartment was clean with a kitchen bedroom and bathroom. It came with a bike, which is the main form of transportation on the island. The area to snorkel or fish is on the busier end of the small island. I preferred to bike the short distance to it. I've toursd Mexico since leaving Caulker including all up the coast but for me speaking English as they do in Belize is quite important. So, I'll refer friends and others to Hilda's. Thanks Hilda.
Hilda was absolutely wonderful. This was a last minute reservation as I am awful at planning ahead. She was so helpful in making my stay comfortable and enjoyable. The apartment has a kitchenette of sorts, so I was very thankful to be able to cook my own meals finally and save a bit of money in the process.
I was traveling on my own to Caye Caulker and am sort of kicking myself for waiting so long to book, and as a result having to stay waaaay on the outskirts of town. I am SO thankful that Hilda includes bikes in this stay, as it would have made my daily trek into town much less enjoyable. The bike ride through the back streets is lovely during the day, but being as I was on my own, I didn't feel all that comfortable making the trip at night. As a result I ended up heading back to the south end of the island early on instead of sticking around for some fun downtown. If you are traveling by yourself (particularly if you're female...) you might enjoy yourself a bit more if you stay downtown and don't have to worry about biking through the unlit backstreets after sunset. If you're traveling with someone else and want to save some $$ on a rental (with a kitchenette, A/C unit and hot water - hurray!), Hilda's Bay Breeze Apts are PERFECT. Also, the wonderful gentleman across the street, Julio, has a golf cart and is very happy to serve as a taxi service should you have packed WAY too much and don't want to make the trek on foot with all of your bags... ;) Thank you Hilda for a wonderful stay!
Hilda was such a wonderful host, and we had the best time staying at Bay Breezes on Caye Caulker. As many of the other reviews have mentioned, the apartment is a bit far from the "main drag" of the island, which can be a little inconvenient. But Hilda provided us with bikes (and locks) to use, which made getting around the island so much easier -- especially since the dirt roads around our neighborhood tended to be . The apartment is in a neighborhood inhabited mostly by locals, which meant it was a lot quieter than the beachfront areas. The building is a lovely four-apartment house with a roof deck that looks out on the water -- great for watching the sunset. The apartment itself is small but comfortable. With one window, it's a little dark inside, but we were spending little if any time in there during the day anyway -- and the roof deck and backyard are available if there's a day you don't want to go into town. Overall, I would absolutely recommend Hilda's if you're planning to visit Caye Caulker. The neighborhood is really cool, and the substantial difference in price between this apartment and one of the beach-front spots makes the distance more than worth it. Hilda was incredibly courteous and helpful.
I loved staying at Hilda's. Her and her family are all really sweet people and willing to help you out with anything. The place was quiet, clean, quaint, and far away from all the noise (which is what I loved about it). I didn't take long to bike ride into town either. I would definitely stay here again.
Hilda is a wonderful host, very warm and friendly. She arraigned a taxi for me when I arrived to the island and was really great about communicating. The apartment itself is exactly as described, cute and clean. It is a bit far from the main area of town, but Hilda gives you use of a bike so it's a 5-10 min ride depending on what part of the island you're trying to get to. Since it is in the far end of the island, the neighborhood is quiet. I highly recommend it as a affordable option if you plan on staying for several days.
Our stay with HIlda was fantastic. HIlda is a well, respected and loved local figure, and virtually everyone on the island knew her and where we were staying. She provided bikes (free) & locks so we could easily get to the busier parts of the island. This made our lives very easy and was a whole new way to tour the island. Wifi was great, a/c was good. It had recently rained alot so there were quite a few puddles back by the apartment, but nothing too hard to manage via bike. Taxis are $5 USD flat on the island, so if youd rather do that, its pretty cheap. If you go to the docks along the island around 3:30pm-4pm you can find local fisherman. We did, and connected with a lobster fisherman. We got about 4lbs of lobster for $10 USD, and BBQ'd (yes there is a BBQ) them several nights in a row. Roof area is chill and open with basic chairs, nice for reading during sunset. Enjoy this apartment, it is highly affordable compared to the rest of the island if you can grab it!
Enjoyed my stay at Bay Breezes Apt#3 very much. Apartment is nice and has everything that one needs. Bikes are very handy, even though the island is not that big. If you need a taxi, they may or may not not where to go from what I found. Having a bit of a map to show them may be helpful. There is a taxi driver across the road too.
Everyone in San Pedro said to go to Caye Caulker to "chill" and I enjoyed doing just that.
Hilds was a great hostess. Hope I can visit again. Thanks!
We had a great time in Caye Caulker, Hildas apartment was very nice & clean. Its a little bit out of town but Hilda provides bikes and its a quick ride into town. Its great because you get to see to see more of the island by bike. Hopefully we'll be back one day!
Hilda was a great host, very helpful & friendly!
HILDA WAS MOST GRACIOUS, AND SO WAS HULIO ACROSS THE STREET. THE APT. WAS VERY CLEAN AND THE BATHROOM SHOWER WAS GREAT. HILDA PROVIDED US WITH TWO BIKES, THAT WAS A REAL PLUS. IT WAS TOO FAR TO WALK TO BEACH EVERYDAY. WE WENT AFTER A WEEK SOLID OF RAIN, SO THE ROADS WERE A PROBLEM. IT IS A BIT OUT OF THE WAY, SO YOU ARE AROUND THE LOCALS AND FULL TIME RESIDENTS. IT WAS VERY QUIET. THE PROPERTY WAS WELL MAINTAINED.
Had a great stay at the bay breezes apartment. Lovely part of town with the locals and new part of the island. A bit far from the action but still had a great time!
