Great location, laid back and hands- off hosts, and completely private and detached garage apartment. Walk to dozens of shops, restaurants and bars, and just a 3 mile drive to King Street. There is no TV!! Most guests like this - some don't, just an FYI.
This is a cool, clean, modern detached garage apartment in Charleston's coolest neighborhood- Avondale. Avondale has been named coolest neighborhood 3 years running by Charleston City Paper, and it's easy to see why. Walk or bike to over a dozen pubs, restaurants, shops, salons, yoga studios, etc... including Pearlz, Al di la, Triangle, The Glass Onion, Mex 1, Gene's Haufbrau and The Roost, all just a block or so away from the apartment. We are only 3 miles to the heart of historic downtown Charleston, and only 20 minutes to Folly, Sullivan's or Isle of Palms. We are also only a few blocks from the West Ashley greenway- a local biking/walking/running path that cuts through the city. It's a great way to get your exercise in, or to get over to South Windemere shopping center to do a little eating at Med Bistro or shopping at Half Moon Outfitters. The apartment is a true studio- with no walls separating living areas, and just a curtain up for the modest in the bathroom, but it's charming and clean, and you can't beat the location. Fully equipped kitchen as well. There is no TV- there is wifi but it's spotty, don't say you weren't warned!
You will have access to beach chairs, a beach Umbrella and a cooler if you would like. Anything else, just ask and we will try to accommodate !
We try to meet all guests face to face upon check in if possible, but occasionally leave a key under the mat if we aren't going to be around. Other than that- we don't interact with guests much unless we see each other coming and going in the driveway. Feel free to approach us with questions, but we understand how guests prefer privacy on vacation, and we try to respect this.
A car is the best way to get downtown- even though it's only a few miles a way there is no bike lane on the Ashley River bridge- so unless you are an experienced bike rider - I would drive- but once you are downtown, walking or biking is the best way to see everything. Closer to home, here in Avondale, almost everything is within walking or biking distance, and it's easy to get around that way. Taxis are fairly inexpensive as well, and there is a city bus that stops a block away, but Charleston isn't known for its public transit, so I can't vouch for it. There are also water taxis that can take you to Mount Pleasant and back!
There is a tall set of stairs leading up to the apartment and the shower is pretty small.

Terrific living space! Comfortable, spotlessly clean, with nicely stocked kitchen. Excellent location - quick and easy access to downtown Charleston and fun neighborhood. Shannon and Brett are helpful, responsive, and delightfully unobtrusive. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Great Hosts! Loved the stay! Cute little apartment, about 10 minutes from down town. :) would stay again if we were in the area.
Perfect! I had a quick business trip in Charleston with meetings in the same neighborhood...couldn't have been more convenient! I only wish we had more time to hang out at this very clean, GREAT place and enjoy the hospitality! Fresh flowers, breakfast muffins, and more!
We had a great stay at Brett and Shannon's apartment. The studio is large and comfortable, close to downtown Charleston but also with lots of great food options in the neighborhood (the Early Bird Diner is unmissable!!). Check in was so easy, even with our cancelled flight and resulting arrival in the wee hours of the morning; we really appreciated thoughtful details like beer in the fridge and muffins for breakfast! Next time we visit Charleston, we would definitely stay here again.
This was our first time in Charleston. We were meeting friends in Myrtle Beach for a few nights, and needed a place for one night before heading to airport. We truly enjoyed our experience at Brett & Shannon's place! It was clean, cozy, and & not far from airport.
Shannon was so sweet; came out to greet us, and told us about good places to eat in the area. The next time we visit the area-their place will be our temporary place. Thanks for everything-the snacks, beers, and privacy. You guys rock!!
The place was just as advertised, had a great time checking out the local establishments.
Brett and Shannon were kind and gracious enough to let my son and I book their apartment at the last minute. They were perfect hosts, meeting us when we pulled in, giving us the key, and leaving helpful notes around the apartment with ideas on things to do and places to eat. Their place is just a very short walk from some great places to eat, and it's just a few miles (5-10 minutes) from downtown Charleston. We would stay again for sure.
Brett and Shannon were amazing hosts. The apt is very cute and well equipped with everything you need. We were a 10 min drive from The restaurants on east bay. Overall, great stay, would highly recommend.
We had a great time staying at Brett and Shannon's place. Its a beautiful apartment in a great location. We ended up going to the many bars and restaurants in the neighborhood rather than downtown. We would stay there again in a second.
Shannon and Brett's garage apartment had everything we needed and made for a delightful stay in Charleston! We were there for New Year's Eve and enjoyed the local restaurant and bar scene in West Ashley (and the ability to walk to there!). There were breakfast foods and the fixings for coffee and hot cocoa, which was a great touch. We would definitely recommend this property to other guests.
