Carries Cottage is a wonderful place to stay on the Kona Side of Big Island. We enjoyed every night in the quiet, relaxing guesthouse and can highly recommand it with 5 stars!
Before we even arrived, Carrie & Mark made extra efforts to have us as guests in a relaxed way. The cottage was a perfect way to start our vacation after a long day of traveling -- quiet and peaceful and very clean. And we thoroughly enjoyed being away from the throngs at the shore. Mark told us of a wonderful local walk just down the road away from cars that passed by papaya, avocado and coffee trees! We are sorry we could not spend more time with our hosts. We hope to visit again in the not-too-distant future. Thanks again for the great start to our trip!
It really looks like this in person! The location is wonderful: Quiet, just between the bustle of the coast and the rain line of the mountain (still plenty of sunshine), and lush with vegetation. Carrie and Mark make it a peaceful, stress-free getaway spot. Have Mark introduce you to the Jackson Iguanas: Very cool critters.
We had a nice time every day we were there. This was so much better as a home base than a place further from town and the Kona beaches, like Waikaloa.
Carrie's place was very nicely set up. It's easily reachable with (website hidden) online maps. When you arrive you will enjoy all sorts of tropical plants and trees that we didn't even know exist.
It was a blessing to receive a tour around the garden and taste done local fruits.
We loved the privacy and serenity away from the noisy Kona, yet conveniently close to it.
You might feel like in heaven because their bed is very very soft, I mean very soft :)
The cottage was peaceful, relaxing, and very clean. My boyfriend and I found it to be a perfect home base for our adventures on the Kona side of the island. We loved falling asleep to the sound of frogs and waking up to the sounds of chickens and other birds. Mark and Carrie are great hosts who are always available for questions but also give you your privacy. We also appreciated their recommendations for restaurants and activities. The location is a short drive up the hill and well worth it to avoid the noise of downtown. We loved that it was cooler at night there in comparison to the beach as it meant sleeping was very comfortable at night.
Great hosts and a great property! We hope to stay there again if I come back to the Big Island!
Perfect location. We flew into Kona late and carries cottage was close and easy to find. Charming for the space. Lovely property. Super comfortable bed! Super clean. Private, quiet, safe. Mark and Carrie were inviting and friendly. Very affordable. If you are looking for something away from the center of Kona, this works really well. Thank you Mark and Carrie.
We were visiting the Big Island from Maui to do some work and Carrie's Cottage was a perfect home-away-from-home for the weekend. The cottage, and entire property, is very neat and well taken care of. Carrie and Mark were very friendly and easy to communicate with during booking.
We would love to stay there again some day!
We really lucked in at Carries Cottages. The hosts were friendly and helpful and provided us with an excellent, quiet retreat. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the fresh fruit that welcomed us. We highly recommend Carries.
Warning! Beware! With all there is to do and see on the Big Island, this cozy hideaway may tempt you to just stay put and enjoy the quiet serenity of this great neighborhood setting. The unit is like brand new and it is clean, comfortable and affordable. The hosts are friendly, engaging and helpful but give you your space and privacy throughout your stay. Mark will give you directions to a great rain forest hike, just up the road or make a dining recommendation. If you want a nice, clean comfortable cottage for two, you really can't beat Carrie's Cottage. I highly recommend and hope to visit again and again! Thanks for everything!
We loved our stay at Carries Cottage. Very private and spotlessly clean. I enjoyed sitting outside, doing a little hand sewing and watching the many birds that flocked around the bird feeder. The bed was great, I wish mine at home were that comfortable. We ate several bananas which were grown on the property, and it was fun to wander around and look at the other tropical fruits growing in the little orchard. There was fresh ground coffee, which my husband enjoyed. I give Mark and Carrie the thumbs up.
