We felt welcome before we even left home due to the email communications we received from our hosts. As we arrived late in the evening, it was nice to find a welcome letter and listings of some of our hosts' favorite restaurants and beaches. The cottage was just as lovely as shown on the website. Very clean and beautifully decorated.
Our hosts greeted us the next morning and provided us with additional information and tips to maximize our time on the big island.
The location was lovely and very quiet. Our porch looked out on a beautiful garden which provided a very serene environment to come to at the end of a busy day. We had family staying at a large hotel resort and as we dropped them off one evening, we commented on how glad we were to be heading back to "our" cottage.
Another advantage we liked about Carrie's Cottage was that it was located at a little higher elevation which made for cool nights and cool mornings.
This was our first experience using airbnb and first visit to Hawaii. We couldn't ask for a better way to begin our vacation. We highly recommend this location to anyone visiting the Kailua-Kona area.
We loved staying at Carrie's thanks to Carrie and Mark. First, the place is beautiful. Far enough off the beaten path that you get the feel of a local while still plenty close enough to Kona to make the entire city accessible. Carrie and Mark were incredibly welcoming and provided great recommendations for restaurants and for the beach. The cottage itself is in the backyard and was very private, and opens up to beautiful views of local plant life. Carrie's is a great spot to use as a staging point for your adventures in Hawaii, especially on the Kona side!
We loved the location and the cottage itself. Carrie and Mark are very accommodating. The location is perfect for anyone planning for days in kona and in Hilo (it takes about an hour and a half cutting through the island to get to Hilo from their cottage). I recommend their cottage to anyone planning a multi day trip to big island.
Little paradise on big island. What a place to stay in Hawaii...
We stayed at Carrie's Cottage for 10 days. It was for us just perfect. We enjoyed every single day so much. The nature and the privat backyard with the BBQ was sensational and it's such a quiet surrounding. The apartment is located close to Kona and only 15 min by car away from a surf spot (Beginner / Intermediate). The apartment is clean and very beautiful furnished. You have everything you need for a perfect relaxing time provided. Carrie and Mark are perfect hosts very friendly, helpful and respectful.
We had as well so much fun with the two dogs Liko and Kea and the two cats Kombucha and Belle. We appreciate the spontan visits from them.
We would definitely highly recommend this accommodation to others and when we once will come back to Big Island its for us the place to stay.
