The space
Remote, quiet cabin with loft bedroom and small, southern-exposure deck offer creative sanctuary. ***Please have a complete AirBnB profile before requesting a reservation, especially if you don't have any reviews yet.

Dear Guests: Please note in the interests of public health and wellness, we are regretfully closing the cabin until Mendocino County lifts the tourism/travel ban. We're likely to be closed for Summer 2020 but feel free to send a message if you'd like to be on the waitlist. We wish you health and adventure wherever in the world you may be.

**Disruption and Extenuating Circumstances policy NEW effective March 5, 2020. Please note we expect guests to carry their own travel insurance. We anticipate cancellations due to unavoidable circumstances (for example: you have traveled to a hot-spot, your family/co-worker/friend has symptoms, or you have the flu, you have been asked to self-quarantine, you are working as a first-responder. We're glad to change to future dates. If you're not feeling well, please stay at home. For those who have already confirmed reservations (prior to March 4), we will be glad to offer a full refund if you decide to cancel or change dates based on the pandemic situation.**

Efficient, tiny galley, on-demand heater, wood stove, handcrafted woodwork. 7 miles to the store or gourmet restaurants. Dozens of beaches, hike/bike trails, rivers, state parks to explore. Rustic, yet elegant main room is 225 sq ft with cathedral ceiling and a 120 sq ft sleeping loft. A state-of-the art shower, toilet, and pedestal sink afford endless forest views, on-demand hot water, and antique touches. There's a loveseat, cozy chair, dining table and chairs in the main room. Up an 11-step ladder find a queen Flo-Bed, small desk and a tree-house-like view of the forest. Filtered light and a restful quietude invite sweet dreams. Galley is stocked with essentials including organic, locally roasted coffee, pristine, deep-well water and a small fridge for treats you find locally. Farm-fresh apples, berries, or veggies on request (when in season). No TV. Your choice: disconnect from the information superhighway or connect to wireless and cell networks. Cell service is spotty in this area. Verizon and US Cellular seem to work well. Note: the cabin is self-catering (e.g. no room service breakfast like the inns provide). Designed for a getaway.

We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods. A true retreat and sanctuary.

A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. We first noticed how undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun makes its way through the trees.

The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby.

Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play.

The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here.

The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon.

Proximity.

We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is often sunny and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin.

Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes.

The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow next to redwood trees; also perfect for stargazing.

Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless.

Check in: ideally from 4 pm - 6 pm by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Check out before noon.

By making a reservation, you confirm that you understand our strict cancellation policy. Please protect your holiday with Trip & Travel Insurance.

Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays less than 30 days.
