Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
This new tiny house is nestled amongst mature hardwood trees on a 30 acre working family farm in Hillsborough. Quiet your mind and restore your body in the luxurious hot tub or warm up by the cozy fire-pit. Under 10 miles to Hillsborough or Durham, and their many restaurants, breweries and shops.
Enjoy the privacy of two secluded wooded acres, surrounded by the sights and sounds of our farm, where we are growing fruits, veggies and mushrooms & caring for our animals and pastures.

The space
The 230 sq ft tiny home was designed by us, and built by Perch and Nest, a certified Tiny home builder in Winston Salem, NC in 2023.

We named it Yakisugi after the traditional Japanese method of burning the cedar wood to preserve the siding over time (also sometimes called “Shou Sugi Ban”). We were excited to use this chemical-free material for our tiny home.

We designed this space to feel cozy in size, but intentional with what it has to offer. Everything in this tiny home is brand new. There is a luxurious queen bed in the lofted area, which is accessed by a ladder, and a comfortable twin bed on the main floor. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator & freezer, small oven, two burner cast iron hot plate, microwave, and coffee maker with organic coffee pods. There is an instant kettle to enjoy a variety of loose leaf and tea bags provided. The bathroom has a full sized shower, vanity stocked with toiletries and bathrobes, and a sink and toilet.

There is a mounted TV with available spectrum cable via app, as well as streaming apps for you to log into, that can be enjoyed from the living area or lofted bedroom, and speedy WIFI.

Outdoors, we offer a large hot tub on a freestanding pergola, a fire-pit with wood provided, a small Weber charcoal grill and grilling tools, and a deck with table & umbrella, and a comfortable swing.

The Tiny home is separated by several horse pastures from the host's farm house (500 feet away). You may see us at a distance, working on the farm, in the garden or with our animals. Please know we will respect your privacy during your stay!

Unfortunately, for the safety of all the animals involved and the small size of the tiny house, we cannot allow pets.

You may notice we have perhaps the county’s largest and smallest horses on the farm— as well as Gilbert the miniature donkey, and two sweet quarter horses. Two outdoor cats patrol the farm but are very friendly! Deer, groundhogs, foxes, and other animals are also seen on the farm frequently.

Seasonally, we will have our own cut flowers in the tiny house, and in growing season we may have some fruits and veggies available to share. A beloved farm stand with soft-serve ice cream is a two minute drive down the road, with other fresh veggies and cheeses for sale.

**Equestrian facilities— for those interested, there is the possibility for additional services for those coming to town for equestrian events to board their horse or horses in the adjacent, devoted 2 acre fescue pasture where we have never sprayed since we moved here. There is a three stall (36x24) sturdily built open-air stable attached to the pasture. Additionally we have a full size riding ring available for those interested in further services. Trailer turnaround is easy with a full roundabout on the property. Ample space is available for parking a trailer by our barn. All our horses are up to date and would be moved to other pastures.

Guest access
Entire Tiny House
2 acres of woods and yard
Field across from driveway (with wildflowers seasonally), will offer a nice walk.

Other things to note
Under North Carolina law, an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting exclusively from the inherent risks of equine activities.-- this is an equine farm.

Do not approach or touch farm equipment or enter outbuildings or animals.

The breaker box is behind the mirror in the main room in case the bathroom switch gets tripped (it has trouble with higher powered hair dryers).
