The space

Welcome to this comfortable double room.

The house is in the centre of the Spa town of Harrogate. We are just across the road, 1min. from both the Turkish Baths and the famous Betty’s café. The rooms are comfortable and quiet and there is a spacious bathroom on each floor.

For those of you who are exhibiting at the Conference Centre or performing at the Royal Hall they are at the bottom of the hill, 5 mins walk, or if you are performing at the Wesley Chapel it is 1 minute away. There is also a theatre, cinema, and numerous restaurants and bars within 5 minutes walk of the house.

Breakfast is usually a selection of seasonal fruits either fresh fruit salad or poached, with cereals and yoghurt, followed by scrambled egg and smoked salmon, poached egg and spinach, or boiled eggs, and then toast and marmalade, jam, marmite, or honey, really, lots to choose from!

First we are opposite Betty's, famous for delicious pastries and coffee or light meals, and then there are any number and a huge variety of restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the house. Dinner? In Harrogate? No problem!

There is a TV, internet, radio, hairdryer, and tea and coffee in all the rooms or by arrangement, and use of an iron and ironing board if needed.

There is a lane by the house where you can load and unload and then parking for one car by the house. If you would like to come by train, the station is 10 minutes walk away.

For holidays:
Harrogate is in the middle of the Dales with glorious wild walks from hilltop villages like Middlesmoor, where, it is rumoured, Lytton Strachey once stayed at The Crown. If you prefer a more serene splendour there is the National Trust’s Fountains Abbey where you could walk to Studley Royal along the water-side and back along the wooded banks, and the Woodland Trust has restored Hackfall Wood, a must for those of a romantic frame of mind. If you love gardens, the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are only an hour’s walk from the house. Harrogate’s famous Stray is across the road for a morning or an evening stroll.

Rachel was an accommodating host and has a beautiful, old, charming house. Our room was perfect. Average size, warm, nicely decorated and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The bed was very comfy and house was generally very quiet despite there being a lot of guests! Breakfast was FANTASTIC and made the stay more personal and well worth the money. You can't beat the location as it is seconds away from restaurants and famous Betty's, plus only minutes from the conference centre we were attending. The only issue we had was with parking which was limited and we had to go elsewhere which was very expensive. Therefore the only suggestion I would make is to perhaps advertise this clearly on the listing. Overall lovely stay, thank you!

A lovely place to stay, with such a friendly and interesting host; parking nearby; good sized bedroom; excellent breakfast with blue-shelled eggs; warm and cosy. What's not to like?

I have two grown up children and three grandchildren I very much enjoy helping with on occasion. Passionate about the arts particularly textiles and Renaissance paintings, I like visiting places that have a range of period properties and ancient churches, the whole of history how it went and where we are now fascinates me. Politics too.
