About This Listing
Modern private room & bath centrally located in SoMa (South of Market). Perfect for business or pleasure, accommodations are just a short walk to Moscone conferences, Union Square, Civic Center, Powell St. -- and easy access to BART, Muni, Caltrain.
While centrally located in the bustling SoMa neighborhood, the apartment is on a quiet street with double-pane windows that make for a peaceful environment. The apartment is brand new with hardwood floors and great neighbors.
You'll be staying in our guest room and bathroom directly off the main hall. While we're at the other end of the hall, a white noise machine and plenty of space can make you feel like you have the place to yourself.
While staying with us, you'll have free use of the common areas: open living room and kitchen that includes brand new appliances, coffee grinder, french press and espresso machine. (You have to try our cold press coffee waiting on the counter every morning to be "pressed" and enjoyed!) Free Wi-Fi throughout the house. And feel free to grab a beer out of the fridge!
Interaction with Guests
You'll be sharing the apartment with the Kelsos - David, Laura and our (mostly) well behaved puppy, Chelsea. We are in our late 20's and work in tech. We don't have a traditional 9-5 schedule which makes us flexible for check in/ check out, but also means you'll have the place to yourself quite a bit. We love San Francisco, so happy to make suggestions on places to visit or see, but also happy to let you enjoy your space!
SoMa has been a popular location for tech startup offices for quite a while, spurring great new restaurants, lunch spots and bars all around us. More recently, it's become a popular spot to live, with easy access to other vibrant neighborhoods like the Mission, Castro and Potrero Hill.
Walk score is 98. Bike and public transit score is 100. Our neighborhood is flat, so it's easy to walk places. Alternatively, there are a handful of MUNI bus stations within a couple blocks, and you're only a short walk from either the BART or Caltrain. If you're coming from SFO, just take BART to Civic Center Station and walk 4 blocks. It doesn't get much better.
Other Things to Note
Q: Do you have parking?
A: No. In general we would not recommend renting a car while staying in San Francisco (except for day trips in the area). Parking is expensive and difficult. There is a parking garage within a couple blocks (at 5th & Mission) but daily parking is $32/day, and only if you don't move the car.
Q: Is the neighborhood safe?
A: Yes, but it is what they call "up & coming." If you haven't been to San Francisco before you'll likely be surprised by the sizable homeless population (and the cold weather). We recommend avoid walking down some of the nearby streets at night, but we've never had any problems personally.
Q: Transit from the airport - SFO?
A: BART - public transit train ride takes 1 - 1.5 hours from SFO stop to Civic Center Station. It's a 4-block (10 min) walk to the apartment from there.
Alternatively you can take a taxi from the queue outside your terminal. It's a 20-25 min car ride (more in heavy traffic) and costs about $50.
Q: Do you have pets?
A: Yes, we have a young dog named Chelsea (she's 8 months old as of June 2014). She's young and learning her manners but spends most of her time with us. She's not allowed in the guest room, and we are careful to keep our home fresh and clean. We'd love for you to play with her, or keep her out of your hair. Whichever you prefer!
*Check in / Check out*
Please advise of your preferred check-in time at least 24 hours in advance (or as soon as any travel arrangements are confirmed). Also note that the apartment is located on the third floor without an elevator.
If checking in before 4 pm, the room may still be occupied by a prior guest. It may be possible to leave bags here and/or enjoy the common spaces while the room is prepared.
Preferred check out time is no later than 2:00 pm, although flexible. Please discuss and confirm your intended time of departure with Laura & David when your plans are firm.

Laura and David were excellent and welcoming hosts. They communicated often ahead of the stay and made sure they were home when I arrived to help me with the lay out of the apartment and the facilities.
They have an adorable dog Chelsea and David was kind enough to keep her engaged with treats to make sure she was comfortable with me there.
The room was comfortable and clean and plenty spacious for one person. the bath room was also very clean and comfortable.
Overall I had a very comfortable stay and would have no hesitation in recommending KelSoMA.
A great place to stay in San Fran - everything was easy and comfortable. Apartment is clean and well equipped and Dave and Laura are just lovely. Would definitely stay again!
laura and David were great. Everything was prepared, organized and ready for my stay. They provided very thoughtful extras like a city guide to use as well as extra phone charge chords!! Plus they have a great dog Chelsea who I wanted to sneak home in my suitcase!
Laura and David host in a comfortable, well-attired apartment; while they were out of town when I arrived, they left excellent and detailed instructions on what's around the house, how to operate the various appliances and everything else I could possibly want. They made available just about everything an ad-hoc traveller could need (from toothbrushes to a fan in case of unusual California heat) and booth room and apartment were clean and comfortable.
I enjoyed my stay thoroughly and would happily do business with them again next time I'm in San Francisco.
Laura and David were around when we checked in and were very friendly. Chelsea, the puppy, is adorable. The house is beautiful, clean and modern, and in a good location to get around the city. The bed was so comfy, like sleeping on a large pillow! I would happily stay here again.
Laura and David were excellent hosts. They made us feel very welcome and we had a great stay. The room and bathroom were extremely clean and Laura and David provided everything we needed for our stay including toiletries, hair dryer and even a fantastic white noise machine. The apartment was in a great location for our holiday, a short walk to Market Street and public transport.
Thank you very much for having us Laura and David!
