The Space

In the Crete Senesi, at the heart of a working organic farm, the traditional farmhouse is divided into two apartments sleeping a total of six people. Both are beautifully furnished with family pieces. The smaller one, La Casetta, is an open space for two. There is a double bed, a living area and a well-equipped kitchen with table. The bathroom has a shower. You can enjoy the summer sunset from the covered terrace. There is access to a large shared garden with a barbecue area and a table for dining. Guests can help themselves to the produce of our organic vegetable patch.
This is an ideal place in which to enjoy the countryside in spring and autumn, far from the bustle of a city. The focus of farm activity is on the breeding of thoroughbred horses. Mares and foals graze in the fields and horses train on the farm’s sand track. Situated within the Ombrone River valley, you can enjoy walks along its banks and in the surrounding woods. Here you will discover an unspoilt landscape of cultivated fields, abandoned farms, and many species of wild animals and birds. There are many good restaurants and trattorias serving magnificent local wines. The Rapolano spas are just a few minutes’ drive away; our guests have discounted admission. Cultural cities such as Siena, Arezzo and Florence are within easy reach.

  • La Casetta was the highlight of my interrail trip - I stayed for five nights after travelling around Europe, feeling weary from overnight trains and constant travel. I was in need of some relaxation and the countryside farmhouse was the perfect place for it. The scenery that surrounds the farm is stunning. The birds singing and tractor humming are the only noises to be heard.

Bicycles are available to use from the farm, so I was able to cycle into nearby Rapolano Terme for coffee, supermarket trips or gelato. The nearby Laticastelli Restaurant up on the hill, which can be seen from the farmhouse itself, is also worth a visit to watch the beautiful sunset over dinner. Siena is also only 30 minutes away on the train, so I was able to cycle up to the local station and venture further afield without the need for a car.

La Casetta is beautifully decorated, with flower arrangements made up at different points throughout the buildings and thoughtfully placed dried lavender over the bed. The hammock in the garden is perfect to the spend the afternoon reading, the covered porch catches the evening sun and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking - basic provisions were already there on my arrival.

Francesca and Teodora very kindly picked me up and dropped me off at the local train station, left a tasty homemade pastry on my doorstep during my stay and made me feel very welcome at the farmhouse.

La Casetta was an absolute dream getaway. I will be recommending it to my family and friends and will hopefully return one day ☺

  • When we arrived we were happy that we were picked up from the station (Rapolane Terme). We arrived in a beautiful valley and the apartment is very spacious, immaculate and very tastefully decorated. We got addicted to the beautiful scenery, the delicious vegetables from the garden and the cake baked specially for us.

It’s possible to have a nice walk to the station with the itinerary of Teodora (about 50 minutes if you walk slowly). You can also go on the bike to Asciano. We visited there a museum, without other visitors, so very quiet compared to Florence. With a wonderful painting of Michael. We have extended our stay one day and visited the Archabbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and Chiusuro, a village on the top of a hill with a church where we found a beautiful altar painting (again Archangelo Michaele).

The hot water baths of Therme San Giovanni are special and historic.

We got at this BNB everything we needed and went home gratefully. And would have liked to stay much longer. To catch our aeroplane from Pisa Airport at 12.30 we departed from the train station at 7.50 am. Our day rhythm was slightly different than usual because of the siesta, because everything is closed.

  • What a peaceful, beautiful place this is just past the old chiesa and over the little red bridge...it was the very best part of our holiday. We loved our stay here...so glad to have discovered the Capannacce Horse farm. It is a very authentic experience of Tuscan life and inspiring to see people so passionate and dedicated about what they do. Francesca and her daughter Teodora work very hard with their horses and the many things to do on the farm. They were very welcoming and I enjoyed talking with them.

My son, Benjamin was really happy to have a go at feeding the horses carrying the bucket across the field, doing some weeding, and chopping some wood. He was really pleased to join in with the activities. He has gone back to school today and can't wait to tell all his classmates in "show and tell" about his experience on the horse farm....the horses, the dog who watched over the mother hen and her chicks,, the three little ducks, the bees in the window, the chickens with their own room. We also found clay in the nearby steam and made some horse heads.

Our hosts made time for us and we felt welcome. Francesca made us a lovely pie. We had a nice meal too. The accommodation itself was spacious and airy with all the amenities we needed. There are pretty villages nearby and we also spent a few hours at the Quercia?? (lots of vowels) Terme with the variety of hot thermal pools to leave you feeling cleansed and relaxed. Teodora has discounted passes to this spa. Lovely flowers, classic Tuscan Cypress trees, crumbly buildings, antique furniture, a frog pond, a hammock....just so pretty. We will return again and stay a bit longer next time. All the best, Joanne and Ben
