Jenny was a great host. We are very happy we stayed with her family for the days we were in Hoi An. We would like to stay there again in the future. The neighbourhood offers some good eating and shopping, but is mostly outside of the hustle and bustle of the town, which was what we wanted. Definitely worthwhile!
We spent 4 nights at Jenny's and were very comfortable. The apartment was basic, but the rooms were large with high ceilings, and the kitchen/dining/living room and front bedroom had good light and doors that opened out onto a balcony that overlooked the street - we enjoyed watching all the action. The location was great - much less touristy than Hoi Ann, but within easy biking distance of town as well as the beaches, rice paddies, etc. - lots of opportunities for exploration. There were a number of restaurants within a couple of blocks, a market around the corner, a convenience type store below, and great message places several doors down the street.
Jenny was incredibly accommodating - we had a medical issue and she arranged transport to and from the doctor/hospital in Danang, and taxis into town when we didn't want to walk/bike and to the airport for an evening flight, had our laundry done, and had plenty of ideas about what to do. Breakfasts offered several choices, western and Vietnamese. Jenny's husband and daughter, and especially her extended family (parents, uncle) were an added treat. Our stay ended too soon.
Jenny welcomed us as soon as the taxi reached her place, her husband helped carry luggage to the apartment on the second floor. We felt at home right away. The apartment was as described, spacious, and clean.
Jenny was a wealth of information and contacts for custom clothing that we desired. With bicycles that Jenny provided at a reasonable rate we were off to see Sunny within an hour of getting to Hoi An.
Jenny's apartment is about 4 km away from the centre of Town. The bike ride was most interesting and a lesson in understanding how cars, motorbikes , bicyclist and pedestrians interact in Vietnam.
Sunny runs her own clothing store in Town and we ended up having suits, shirts, dresses made for us.
The apartment is a 5 minutes walk to the beach. Although our apartment was facing the main road, it as quite from 11.00 pm to 5.00 am and had no trouble getting a good sleep.
We got to know Jenny's sweet little girl Sari and her extended family whom we met at breakfast and during the day. There are choices for breakfast, eggs and omelette of Pho and Mi. We tried all and enjoyed the Pho and the Mi.
There are good restaurants in the city where we ate a few times in the 4 days we were there. We also used the services of a travel agent, Trang, that Jenny recommended for bookings for room in SaiGon and trips to the Mekong Delta and Cu Chi Caves.
All in all we were completely comfortable at Jenny's and could have stayed for many more days very easily. Jenny even gave me an power outlet adapter in case I needed it SaiGon.
Jenny and her family are lovely hosts. They made us feel very welcome and our son loved playing cars with Jenny's daughter. The apartment offers good value. It's spacious and clean and the balcony is a bonus. Jenny cooks a great breakfast and offers several choices. Her sister's restaurant a few doors up provides some of the freshest and tastiest food we had in Hoi An. We hired a moped for 2 days for the 3 of us. This turned out to be great fun and it was a very convenient way to get around.
Jenny was a truly excellent host. Always prompt to reply, always offering, great English, and the friendliest parents in the world! I had a huge two bedroom place with balcony. There is endless breakfast, a convenience store and a spa next door, the beach is 200 metres away and Jenny provides bicycles you can use to get into Hoi An itself
An Thi is a homestay in the real sense of the word - it's Jenny (Ha) and her family's home and they made us feel like it was ours right from the first day to the last (10 days altogether). Jenny organised a pick-up from the train, sorted us with bikes, laundry, a birthday cake for our son and each day brought us different incredibly tasty noodles for breakfast, patiently teaching us the names and helping with our terrible pronunciation. She is a very special host.
The family room was perfect for us - we had two boys and there was plenty of space with the two bedrooms, kitchen/dining and the balcony. We shopped around the local neighbourhood for food, coffee, clothes, shoes, massages etc - people quickly got to know our faces and took really good care of us. It's a very safe, friendly place.
An Thi is close to Cua Dai and An Bang beaches and an easy 10 minute cycle to Old Hoi An. Riding around Hoi An town and out into the country was a total highlight. Walk up the road to River Beach Hotel - if you have a meal you can use their very nice pool for free.
I was riding back from old Hoi-an this morning for the last time and felt like I could have easily stayed here for another 10 days - we had already extended our stay once. We have been so well cared for at An Thi, we feel like we have made friends with Jenny and her family. We'd come back in a second.
