Private room in Crescent City

House - Private room · Douglas Street, Crescent City, CA 95531, United States

The Space

A full-size bed in a private room in a cute little cottage on a quiet street, just two miles from the ocean, the redwoods and Lake Earl. Enjoy vegetarian fare in the mornings.

The cottage is at the end of a quiet street in an older part of town but close to the hospital and shopping. Guests will share a bath and may use the kitchen and laundry room.

I enjoy entertaining, and I'm happy to share my home with you. If you want privacy, I will accomodate that. I can also offer you a complimentary tour of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for either the tourist or the naturalist. Also, I will be happy to make you a vegetarian sourdough pizza!

Crescent City is surrounded on all sides by some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in the state, including the ocean, the redwoods, the largest lagoon in the state (Lake Earl) and one of the last natural, unobstructed rivers left in California (Smith River).

I do have cats, but they are kept out of the guest room and will interact only by invitation!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Patree was a wonderful host. I had decided to stop in Crescent City with under 24 hours notice, and she was very responsive. She has clearly shown that she's been doing this for a while.

She had a host of information readily available for in chatting with her and in the room as to things to do in the area. I never would have known to check the Harbor for seals had she not told me! She also let me know the various Redwood sites in the area and what to expect from each.

She was a very warm host, and is very interested in people, so if you're looking for a chatty host, then she can provide. I was looking for likewise, but it seems like she would also be very open to leaving someone on their own if that's the experience they are looking for.

    Accommodations were very comfortable!

The sourdough pizza for dinner and various offerings for breakfast (plus sending some leftovers with me) were delicious!

  • Well, there is really nothing new to say. The other reviewers have all said it. At the risk of being repetitive, loved Patree's beautiful home, great personality and generosity, and wonderful hike in the redwoods. If you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for heart and soul, this is a great place to stay.

  • This was the perfect last stop on a wonderful vacation for my boyfriend and I. Patree was welcoming, warming and an overall excellent host. Her home is clean, comfortable and certainly unique! We were greeted with homemade pizza and departed with bellies full of homemade banana bread! Our stay was the perfect marriage of hospitality and repose. We would definitely stay at Patree's home again.

  • Staying with Patree is like staying with your mum! She's warm and welcoming and really treats you like a friend rather than a guest. When we arrived, she had made us the most delicious sourdough pizza with herbs from her garden, and during the few days we stayed with her, she baked us amazing banana bread, chocolate bread, and a lemon cake, which she very kindly gave us to take on our onward trip to Portland. Patree took time out of her day to share her passion of the Redwoods with us, where she took us around and showed us her favourite trees and fauna, as well as pointed us in the direction of several sights in the area, which we would have definitely missed if we hadnt had her insider knowledge!! We would recommend Patree and her lovely home as a place for anyone to stay. The bed is comfy too and she has 3 adorable cats!! 10 out of 10 :)

  • My husband Dave and I really enjoyed our stay with Patree! She is such an uplifting positive gal. In addition to delicious breakfast breads (lemon poppyseed, chocolate or whole wheat), Patree offered to make us delicious sourdough pizza the first night we arrived. This was above and beyond our expectations. On the day we were leaving Patree offered to take us on a private tour of the redwoods.. I learned so much. Patree made us feel like old friends immediately. Her place is super clean and creatively decorated. She had nice background music playing quietly and the ambiance was homey. What a breath of fresh air she is!

  • Patree was an absolute delight -- perhaps the best hostess I've ever encountered in my years using Airbnb all across the country. Not only did she feed me delicious homebaked pizza and lemon poppyseed bread, she packed some away for my long drive to Oregon, too. She also took me to her favorite Redwood grove and could name for me every tree, root and flower on the forest floor -- an impressive naturalist in her own right! Patree gave my trip that unique and local feel that real travelers crave. I recommend Patree to anyone passing through Crescent City, and her home is warm, colorful and cheery -- just like her! You will love her, I'm sure of it. Thank you, Patree, for such wonderful memories!

  • Patree was most accommodating around my late arrival in the pouring rain.
Her house is charming and interesting, she has a wild sense of humour.
She fed me well and could not do enough for me. I had everything I needed and help with my travels, map, direction, water to go!
It was lovely to be with her.

  • Patree is an amazing hostess. My wife and I had a lovely stay and would recommend staying with her to anyone. Her place was neat and tidy. She made us pizza in the evening and had breakfast, coffee and tea waiting in the morning. The room was nice, and Patree provides guests with Wi-Fi access and netflix in the room. We are glad we had the chance to stay at this place.

  • Patree was a wonderful introduction to airbnb! She made our vacation extra special with her tour in Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park, her insider knowledge of the area, and her never-ending delicious baked goods. We really felt at home staying with her. Ask her for advice on places to go--she won't disappoint!

I moved to Crescent City from Ohio in 2004, and I have fallen in love with this beautiful area. I am an amateur naturalist with a passion for the redwood forest, and have been photographing the flora and fauna of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in detail for eight years. In addition, I have won a number of local awards for my photography. I also love to cook vegetarian fare and bake cookies, breads and pies, and of course, sourdough pizza! I play the soprano recorder and also sing bass in our local community chorus. I enjoy gardening and am slowly turning my front yard into a flower garden. I also have an herb garden and plenty of room and desire for more cultivation! I love to read, and I'm currently working my way through the fiction section at our local library. My lifestyle is simple and peaceful with lots of time in the natural world. I hope you'll let me give you a taste of my beautiful place on the planet.
