Room in a cottage

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Grandma-style hospitality in a whimsical, arty cottage.

LGBTQIA-friendly and welcoming to people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds and dietary preferences. If I left you out, you are welcome too!

The space
Enjoy the best Grandma has to offer! Sleep on a queen-sized mattress with 1200 count cotton sheets, and dry off with fluffy towels. Veg out with live TV, Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Paramount, or Prime, plus high-speed internet.

Have questions about the area? I have lots of resources for you to check out.

Enjoy home-baked quick breads with various jams and nut butters in the morning. And there may be cookies for you to take!

The cottage is at the end of a quiet street in an older part of town but close to the hospital and shopping. Guests are welcome to use the entire house, deck, patio and yard.

I enjoy entertaining, and I'm happy to share my home with you. If you want privacy, I will accommodate that. I can also offer you a complimentary tour of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for either the tourist or the naturalist.

Crescent City is surrounded on all sides by some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in the state, including the ocean, the redwoods, the largest lagoon in the state (Lake Earl) and one of the last natural, unobstructed rivers left in California (Smith River).

I do have two cats, but they are both inside and outside, and they are kept out of the guest room. I also feed several feral cats who roam the property. There are also four pet chickens (Heckle, and Jeckle who are black and Lovey and Dovey who are black and white) that live together outside your bedroom door, plus three little dogs who live with my best friends Marti and Bill in the trailer in my side yard. You can have fresh eggs for breakfast when I have them.

You are welcome to smoke outside.

Finally, please note that the cleaning fee is actually the Del Norte County transient tax that I am required to collect.

Guest access
My home is your home. You have access to the entire house, deck, gazebo, and spacious yard and gardens.

During your stay
I like to give you as much privacy as you desire. In the morning I set out a light breakfast for you because I sleep late, so you have the kitchen to yourselves. Please leave everything for me to clean up. I'm always available in person for questions or concens.

My work: Retired
I spend too much time: Playing hearts on line. I'm a beast!
Most useless skill: Organizing. It just comes naturally.
For guests, I always: give just like grandma would do!
I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
I moved to Crescent City from Ohio in 2004, and I have fallen in love with this beautiful area. I am an amateur naturalist with a passion for the redwood forest, and have been photographing the flora and fauna of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in detail for eight years. In addition, I have won a number of local awards for my photography. I also love to cook vegetarian fare and bake cookies, breads and pies, and of course, sourdough pizza! I play the soprano recorder and also sing bass in our local community chorus. I enjoy gardening and am slowly turning my front yard into a flower garden. I also have an herb garden and plenty of room and desire for more cultivation! I love to read, and I'm currently working my way through the fiction section at our local library. My lifestyle is simple and peaceful with lots of time in the natural world. I hope you'll let me give you a taste of my beautiful place on the planet.
