About this listing
Spacious house right on Fort Pond with relaxed bohemian vibe. Enjoy the open kitchen, reclaimed wood beams, and hand crafted furniture. Access directly to the water from the back yard. We also have two other cottages, that are two bedrooms each.
This house is a well renovated, stylishly furnished 3 bedroom 2 bath former fishing cabin that was erected in the 1930s by a Quebecois fisherman and has been lovingly restored. There is a master bedroom that has two queen beds and private bathroom, and then two more bedrooms each with a queen bed, and a second full bath.
The original structure was salvaged after the Long Island Express hurricane of 1938 from the town initially on the bay side. Only as big as the living room and kitchen at first, the cabin expanded with his family to the house that stands today, along with another cabin, an additional cottage (also listed here and available for large parties and events) and a barn. The grounds are shared and the units are all private.
The décor is a mix of bought and found objects and are we have collected on our adventure and pieces custom made by our maker friends and us. The compound has different levels, lots of lawn space and we are always working to make an amazing landscape.
The rooms in the house feature open ceilings with visible rafters, the most dramatic being in the living area with its salvaged beams and column. There are lots of windows to allow in light and cool the house in the summer.
Here’s what you can expect:
* Convenient and easy access to the beach, the bay the town and stores, restaurants and train or bus station.
* Our vibe is relaxed and respectful of our neighbors, but we've made a place for people to hang out, meet new people and have fun or unplug
* Spacious living space with plenty of sitting and a large dinning table
* A well stocked kitchen with plenty of counter space, a large farm sink and dishwasher, a fridge with ice-maker, a gas range with oven and everything you need to make great meals of the fresh produce and seafood and there are usually basic cooking ingredients too.
*Private bedrooms with queen beds with high density, high end mattresses. Linens, pillows and towels are provided and there are extras in the hallway closet.

*The porch bedroom has a large closet and sliding doors to a narrow deck, one of the best sunning spots on the compound.
*The shared bathroom also has a Victorian shower over a deep cast iron tub. Both bathrooms in the house have raw cement walls and marble floors.

Interaction with Guests
We are pretty laid back, private but accessible should you need anything or have questions. When we are around and the weather is good we usually make a fire for everyone.
Shepherd's Neck is a really nice part of Montauk, it's quiet yet convenient to most everything and our place is right on the the water. You can walk to Ruschmeyers, Surf Lodge, Navy Beach, the beach the bay, and the town.
feel free to bring a bike. There is a bike rental in Montauk and a scooter rental. Walking is pretty easy though and taxis are plenty for longer trips.
Other Things to Note
Most important thing to consider is that there are some other cottages on the property, so being aware of not disturbing others is important. The house is totally private and you will feel comfortable in that regard, its just not the place for huge loud parties.
Please try to limit the cars you bring to one if possible, two is the absolute max for this house.
We have tried to make this as awesome a place to stay and we hope you enjoy it.
•Sorry to kick it off on this note but again, NO PETS. I cannot stress this enough and we are pretty firm about this.
•No unaccounted for guests. Want to invite more people than are on your reservation? We’d love to have them but please let me know as soon as you can. If you have a last minute addition we will sort it out upon your arrival.
•Do not smoke tobacco inside the cottage.
•Though the cottage and its deck are private, the rest of the grounds are shared. Please be aware of and courteous to other guest on the compound.
•We have a cast iron fire pit which you are welcome to use if you know how to manage a fire. Never leave it unattended.
•Lastly, your welcome to take towels to the beach but do not take house blankets out of the house. THANKS
From Oct 13 - 16, 2015 the minimum stay is 1 night.
About the Host, Fort Pond House
We are Jason and Frida and we live in Brooklyn and Montauk year round. We love to travel, collect treasure, eat street food and meet people who make things. Our love for DIY and repurposing old things is clearly visible through out our place.
After spending many summers in Montauk we came to love it here and fell in love with the Shepherd's Neck area and this compound, and in spite of the fact that it was neglected for many years and needed a lot of love, we made it our first home.
We have filled it with things we love, bought and found on our adventures near and far. We've transformed the yard into a garden that we share with a lot of birds and bees!
It's thoughtfully furnished and well appointed. We hope you will find respite here and enjoy the retreat as we do.
