This listing is for a well renovated, minimally furnished 3 bedroom 2 bath former fishing cabin that was erected in the 1930s by a Quebecois fisherman. The original structure was salvaged after the Long Island Express hurricane of 1938 from the town initially on the bay side. Only as big as the living room and kitchen at first, the cabin expanded with his family to the house that stands today, along with a cabin, a cottage (also listed here and available for large parties and events) and a barn. The grounds are shared and private.
The décor is a mix of bought and found objects and are we have collected on our adventure and pieces custom made by our maker friends and us. The compound has different levels, lots of lawn space and we are always working to improve the landscape.
All but one room in the house have open ceilings with visible rafters, the most dramatic being in the living area with its salvaged beams and column. There are lots of window to allow in light and cool the house in the summer.
Here’s what you can expect:
* Convenient and easy access to the beach, the bay the town and stores, restaurants and train or bus station.
* Our vibe is pretty relaxed and respectful of our neighbors, but we've made a place for people to hang out, meet new people and have fun or unplug
* Spacious living space with plenty of sitting and a large dinning table
* A well stocked kitchen with plenty of counter space, a large farm sink and dishwasher, a fridge with icemaker, a gas range with oven and everything you need to make great meals of the fresh produce and seafood and there are usually basic cooking ingredients too.
*Private bedrooms with queen beds with high density mattresses. Linens, pillows and towels are provided and there are extras in the hallway closet.
*A private deck with table and chairs.
* There are 3 daybeds in the living room for additional guests that are good for short stays.
*Direct access to Fort Pond via stairs. We have canoes with oars, rafts, and life vests. The fresh waters of the lake are ideal; much warmer and calmer than the ocean and pristine since much of its shoreline is protected and wild and no motor boats are allowed.
*A fire pit and portable grill for guests to use.
*The master bedroom is en suite, with a WC and Victorian shower. The room has direct access to the side deck. There’s a dresser and armoire and seating too and a work desk- if you must.
*The front bedroom is close to the bathroom and living space and a great place to hear bird song in the warmer months.
*The porch bedroom has a large closet and sliding doors to a narrow deck, one of the best sunning spots on the compound.
*The shared bathroom also has a Victorian shower over a deep cast iron tub. Both bathrooms in the house have raw cement walls and marble floors.
*Wifi internet through out the property.
*Off street parking.
off street parking, private out door deck, full kitchen and baths, private grounds, fire pit, portable grill, canoes and access to the lake, wifi.
Interaction with Guests
We are pretty laid back, private but accessible should you need anything or have questions. When we are around and the weather is good we usually make a fire for everyone.
Shepherd's Neck is a really nice part of Montauk, it's quiet yet convenient to most everything and our place is right on the the water. You can walk to Ruschmeyers, Surf Lodge, Navy Beach, the beach the bay, and the town.
feel free to bring a bike. There is a bike rental in Montauk and a scooter rental. Walking is pretty easy though and taxis are plenty for longer trips.
We have tried to make this as awesome a place to stay and we hope you enjoy it.
• Sorry to kick it off on this note but again, NO PETS. I cannot stress this enough and we are pretty firm about this.
• No unaccounted for guests. Want to invite more people than are on your reservation? We’d love to have them but please let me know as soon as you can. If you have a last minute addition we will sort it out upon your arrival.
• Do not smoke tobacco inside the cottage.
• Though the cottage and its deck are private, the rest of the grounds are shared. Please be aware of and courteous to other guest on the compound.
• We have a cast iron fire pit which you are welcome to use if you know how to manage a fire. Never leave it unattended.
• Lastly, your welcome to take towels to the beach but do not take house blankets out of the house. THANKS
I rented the Waterfront House for 5 people over Thanksgiving. We had a great time, the kitchen was fully stocked to cook a full Thanksgiving meal for my group, and accommodations were incredibly comfortable. Our hosts were helpful and super responsive to all our questions. Would definitely return! I recommend this gem to anyone visiting Montauk.
We had a wonderful stay! We were three couples and this house was perfect - great amount of room and a wonderful location for walking to town or the beach, or running around the pond. Had we been there in warmer weather I'm sure we would have taken advantage of being out on the pond - and the grill! We had a few questions and concerns and Jason was very prompt in responding and helping out. Highly recommend this house! Would go back with more friends and rent all the homes on this property for an amazing retreat!
We stayed at the Fort Pond House Montauk for two nights to celebrate a bachelorette party and fell in love with the main house! It is cute and spacious with plenty of room for 6 girls. They have most of what you need right there at the house - there's canoes, bikes, a fire pit. We had a few questions/needed help and Jason was only a text away. I really appreciated Jason and Frida's friendliness and would recommend their place to anyone lucky enough to be visiting beautiful Montauk.
Jason and Frida were such great hosts.
This property is amazing. The wide open layout of the house is perfect. The artwork and aesthetic is fabulous. Backyard, fire pit, on the lake. Will definitely be coming back
Amazing location and amazing accommodation. I hosted a party for 15 people so I rented out the main Waterfront House as well as one of the extra cabins on the property. Both were beautifully styled and had everything we needed. Just a note to renters though, the main house does not have Air Conditioning, but the extra cabin did. We were still comfortable though given that we were at the beach or at the nearby restaurants/bars during the day, and given the time of year (September 5-8) allowed for cooler evening temperatures (about 68 degrees). I definitely hope to return next year!
This was a beautiful home on a shared property. We stayed in the largest of the homes and had our own private yard with access to the water. It was beautiful and the home was clean. Jason and Frieda were really accommodating and quickly responsive. Just as a note there is no ac in the home or tvs but neither are needed with nice breezes in Montauk and so much to do!
Jason and Frida were wonderful hosts - great communication and super friendly. The house was beautiful and felt like home. It was neat, clean and in a perfect location. We hope to come back soon!

We are Jason and Frida and we live in Brooklyn and Montauk year round. We love to travel, collect treasure, eat street food and meet people who make things. Our love for DIY and repurposing old things is clearly visible through out our place.
After spending many summers in Montauk we came to love it here and fell in love with Shepherd's Neck and this compound, and in spite of the fact that it was neglected for many years and falling apart we made it our first home.
We are slowly filling it with things we love, bought and found on our adventures near and far. We cleared a lot of junk from the yard and making a garden that we share with a lot of birds and bees!
It's thoughtfully furnished and well appointed. We hope you will find respite here and enjoy the retreat as we do.
